Rec Room, OTA
CHARACTERS: Toshiko Sato and YOU
LOCATION: the Rec Room with the pool tables
WARNINGS: nothing unless you need a warning for handwaved pool playing
SUMMARY: Pretty much some people playing pool and talking.
NOTES: There are no rules to this log, feel free to team up and play or just grab someone to talk to. Make your own open threads if you want to claim a table and try to get a game going. BYOB. ;)
Toshiko has made sure the felt is clean, the cues are lined up, and the balls are racked. Now the only thing missing is someone to come and play.

"Hi?"

"Hm, actually yeah. I think it would. I mean the basics are the same -- angles, distance and velocity. The only variable you have to learn to control is yourself, your own hand-eye coordination and the force you apply."
/ffff, I am the slowest.
"Does pool come in a round?"
no worries, me too
"Well I think we'll just start with a game first," she says with a grin. "You play one game, or several games to a round, and several rounds to a match. Um...want me to just go over the important terms and rules and all that first? Just the things you really have to know."

For once, he actually shrugs off his coat and hangs it up on the appropriate rack. The hat stays firmly on his head, though. Good luck ever getting him to take it off.
When he spots Toshiko he smiles, slightly awkward but still friendly. "Looks like I wasn't the only one t'show, yeah?"

OTA
It's hard to tell he's even breathing, just analyzing the situation, until finally he picks up the cue, aims, shoots, and--plunk--makes the shot in only a few seconds within hi coming to life.
But immediately afterwards, he sets the pool cue down, folds his hands again, and resumes staring.

"Hi. Brendan, right? You're good."

"It's angles." As if it were that simple, and he glances over again. "But yeah. It's Brendan."
OTA.
So her presence here is really more of an observational one, because if this is what everyone's going to be doing then surely she should be here to see if its something she wants to invest her time in. It was much the same with cards, back when she was much younger and newly come to her chosen life. She'd sat aside her first husband and watched him play until she'd picked up the rules and then she'd quietly bested him and his friends all at once.
That had been a good night.
So perhaps pool would be much like that, she reasons, and so she perches upon a stool and watches the play, mentally ticking off form and theorizing the rules as she does.

"Thank god, I thought I was going to drown in testosterone here." She takes a seat on a stool as well. "Have you ever played before?"
no subject
"Never. One of the drawbacks of being so far behind the rest, I'm afraid."
Being from the past, it's a huge drag.

She does offer her hand to shake, however, because she doesn't have bad manners. "I'm Toshiko."
no subject
"Irene. It's a pleasure.
And she does take the offered hand, grip firm. She's not attempting to impress, not really, but first impressions are everything, aren't they?
