[ after a hard weeks chopping up creepy fear demon creatures, what's a girl to do except try and scramble onto something that reminds her of home? it seems as logical a move to octavia as anything else, and at any rate the gardens are one of the only places on the ship where she doesn't have a continual, background feeling of slight claustrophia. the sterile, space-like nature of the rest of the ship reminds her all too well of the fact that they're up here, but in the oxygen gardens at least she can almost pretend like she's still on earth, still free.
and that's just what octavia is doing now. she's found a nice grassy patch clear enough for her to fully lie down in, and with her arms spread wide either side of her and her eyes closed she's just breathing. like, literally. that's all she's been doing for about an hour now. there's minimal damage left over from the events of the past week or so, a little bruising at the base of her throat and a shallow, scabbed-over cut above her left eye. but certainly nothing warranting concern. for all intents and purposes, she's coming across very much like the teenagers of the earth before her lot had radiated the entire thing into uselessness.
she's loitering, basically. best not let that go on for too long, right? ]

crashes in here super late please forgive me
Do you have to lie right there?
[ is clearly the way to open up this conversation, as derek looks down at her with a sack of soil slung over his shoulder. he's sweating, and it's not the easiest thing to lift the way it had been once, but still, he's got this. ]
i can't believe gmail sent this to spam that is sacrilege also 0% fussed what even is time
but then the other person actually addresses her, and after a moment she fully opens one eye to look directly at him, face scrunching into a slightly bothered expression. ]
Well... [ 'no' is the real answer, but this week has been beyond rough, and she's not feeling so inclined to adjust her behaviour for anyone, childish as that might be. ] yes, actually. I kind of do.
[ her eyebrows shoot up, and she even opens both eyes to fix derek with a stare. ]
kicks down door, crams myself back into this log
You're in the way. [ derek informs her, since that's clearly all she should need to hear. ] There's plenty of grass to lie on elsewhere.
[ elsewhere in the gardens, but if she left altogether to search for it derek's not going to be too upset about it. ]
