CHARACTERS: Muscovy & Rey
LOCATION: Some distance out of the camp, in the tree that Rey, Firo and Muscovy's treehouse is in
WARNINGS: N/A
SUMMARY: While building a house for the fairies

While Muscovy didn't mind the jingling of the fairies' voices - he'd gotten used to that by now - he was absolutely on board with making them move out, as long as they got a separate place to stay that was close by so that they wouldn't actually leave, or that he would leave them. He'd promised them that they would never leave one another, after all, and he's very keen on keeping that promise.

But when the fairies stole his medical box and attempted to build a house in it, he had to admit that it would be better for them to have a place of their own. Because they could have killed themselves if someone put a lid on the box. He's been told that those boxes are like space if someone is inside them too long, which is why he shouldn't climb into the larger ones (back while they were still on the ship) so he'd rather not have the fairies go in there because he's also been told that people die in space.

Right now, it is him and Rey sitting in the branches of the tree a bit away from the main house, the fairies only sometimes coming over to check out what they're doing there, working on a much smaller house with only one room for them.

"We should put something soft inside so they can build a nest."

circumitus: We know how you feel. (kid you're lost in the wheel)

It wouldn't be long before people from the expedition would be gathering. Rey intended to be there by then, but for the time being she had made a promise to help out Muscovy with his fairies. At the very least, it would probably be one less thing to bother Firo while she was gone.

"A nest? What are they, like birds?"

As if Rey is one to talk, with her little burrow of pillows and blankets. Because sleeping in a bed like a normal person is asking too much from her.

But then she nods. "Think we can probably use some spare cloth so they can get more comfortable in there." She's found some from the ship, so it shouldn't be a problem.
circumitus: What if cement was really a rainbow color they just secretly paint it grey so as not to distract drivers? (what if...)

Taking a moment to reach into a pack she had brought with her, she takes out part of the bolt of fabric she had found at the base camp. It may not be the softest material ever, but it's good enough to put together with the other cloth she had extracted from within the ship itself.

"Think this will work? It fell from the sky after the jump."
circumitus: I ONLY KNOW HOLA. (EVERYONE IS SPEAKING SPANISH)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-01-14 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cursed?" Rey arches a brow, making a face at the boy that can only communicate befuddlement. "What are you talking about? It's just fabric."

Plus curses sound like something out of stories or legends, like haunted houses and the like. So clearly they can't exist! (Though, sure, there have been some crazy shit that's happened throughout her life, and even many things here that she can't explain... but she's never heard of curses ever being an issue.)

In Muscovy's own words, that all just sounds silly.

"More than just this fell after the jump and other people have been taking them," Rey points out. "And we've eaten the food that's fallen from the sky as well, and no one's seems cursed from that, or getting sick." Rey herself has eaten some of the canned food and water that popped up during one of the previous jumps. She shakes her head. "Bad things sometimes just happen, some times more than others. You can't just blame all bad things on something mythical like curses."

For instance, Rey's whole existence was about being miserable. That could be considered a curse in itself, but one could easily argue that she was just dealt a shitty hand in life. Same goes for anyone else who's ever had it rough.
circumitus: Keep up the good work. (it's a 12/12/12 miracle)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-01-14 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Now that's the story of Rey's life.

"Assuming that this is cursed--" She holds up the cloth for show. "--how would you know and what would you be able to do about it?"

Fine, she'll indulge the kid this one time, but only once. It isn't like she wants to humor him or anything by talking like she actually believes that curses are really a thing. There are just way too many crazy things in this world that cursed fabric does not need to be one of them.
circumitus: even drones can fly away.... the queen is their slave... (chill out big head)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-01-14 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Rey muses, still not entirely convinced that this whole nonsense is real. But if Muscovy does, then he would likely feel better not having what could possibly be 'cursed' fabric with odd alien writing on it in his fairy's nest.

That sentence should not make any sense.

"Can just use another type of fabric for it until we're certain. Don't have as much of it, though."

She sighs and puts the cloth away, pulling out another fabric piece she had ripped during one of her many savaging trips into the Tranquility remains.

"Well, so long as you don't mind parting with it..." Though she can't see why he would. Rey manages to keep the dome warm enough at night and it's fairly humid enough during the daytime. There are also plenty of pillows and blankets that she would probably spare if they weren't too big for the house that she would have to tear them apart, and that's just a waste.

She blinks when Muscovy talks about curses again. "Don't think any of them are cursed. They're by far the strangest things to come from a jump, though."
circumitus: I CAN QUIT ANY FUCKING TIME I WANT. (i'm not drunk YOU'RE drunk)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-01-21 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Rey shrugs. "You'd probably know better."

Fairy care taking isn't exactly on her list of life experiences.

"Supplies were dropped the last time. Some canned food, bottled water... We've had some, actually, and no harm has come of it since." She still finds it odd that that's become the new normal with every jump now, but she'd rather not look a gift horse in the mouth.
circumitus: - XOXO dad (time to smoke my breakfast)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-01-22 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"If there is, no one's figured it out yet."

It'd be way easier than scavenging for food in the jungle, though hunting has a way of keeping her senses sharp, so Rey doesn't complain.

She then blinks, remembering something. "Oh, right. Um, wanted to give you something, before leaving." The expedition was going to be later that night, and she wanted to make sure Muscovy got something she's been holding onto.

Just in case.

Cargo pants are useful in that regard. They hold a few tech pockets big enough for storing all kinds of useful things. Like knives. One in which Rey pulls out for Muscovy to take, like what any responsible 'parent' would do. "Figured you could use one of these."

Well, it was more Gavroche's idea, but roll with it.

"And don't worry, it won't be for very long. Perhaps about a day or so."

When she heard that there were people at the camp planning on heading out, she decided that they could probably use the extra muscle. Plus, she was also curious as to what else might be out there.

On the downside, she may have forgotten to tell her family this.

"No," she says decisively. "Have plenty at my arsenal to survive out there. Don't worry, am not one to die easy."

Or to stay dead at all, if her track record of having been killed and put back together has been any indicator. Granted, the only ones who knew how to do that weren't here, so Rey just has to focus on 'be hard to kill' rather than the 'don't stay dead' part.

"Figured Firo could help show you how to make the best of that." What family bonding time is better than teaching a child how to knife fight? Rey can't really think of any other answer.
circumitus: ...'cause my cocaine successfully went through airport security. (doing a small happy dance)

It isn't like Rey actively demonstrates her fire capabilities in a combative way around people, especially Muscovy. It isn't often that she allows herself to generate fire beyond being a walking heatsuit on the colder nights.

With a sobering smile, she nods. "Not that I can't. Have died a few times before, in wars, and was always brought back. But the one who would usually have me killed isn't alive anymore, so I can live however I want now."

There was a time where this wasn't a subject worth smiling about. But Rey had since become thankful that she's been alive long enough to have the experiences she's had here.

Terrible accidents would indeed be... terrible, depending on the right person.

Gregory, however, is not. But Rey's mouth tightens into a thin line when Muscovy asks for a physical description.

"Doesn't matter," she says curtly. "He's dead now."

Never mind the fact that time does not always matter here.
circumitus: What if cement was really a rainbow color they just secretly paint it grey so as not to distract drivers? (what if...)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-10 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Fair point. Rey has heard of people who have died before they came here, and it wasn't like Gregory hadn't cheated his own death once before. Why should he be any different?

Still, in all her years of being here, no one from her home world has shown up, and there was no guarantee that they ever will. Which doesn't mean that it can't ever happen, though.

"He's pale, and tall. About a foot taller than me, even." She raises a hand over her head to give Muscovy a visual concept of the man's height. "Red hair, gold eyes. Freckles. Usually dresses really nice, in suits and such. He's rather hard to miss if you were to ever see him."

So much so that Rey's pretty sure she's never seen anyone around here who's fit that description before.
circumitus: I ONLY KNOW HOLA. (EVERYONE IS SPEAKING SPANISH)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-10 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Rey rubs her forehead. "Well, they're more like a very light shade of brown, but think 'gold' is the best way to describe them."

So no, they're not literally made of gold.

She blinks, realizing where this is going, but still--

"Why are you asking?"
circumitus: Keep up the good work. (it's a 12/12/12 miracle)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-10 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it would certainly be bad if Muscovy were to mistake some other soulless ginger poor person for Gregory, or vice versa.

"Wouldn't recommend going anywhere near him. He's dangerous."

She pauses.

"If anything, it was safer to kill him from a distance." Just saying.
circumitus: This is drunk and confused... (this is worse than naked and afraid)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-11 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's because he's not." She shrugs a shoulder. "He looks and talks like a human, of course, but he's a special type of synthetic being."

In that he possesses a unique form of artificial intelligence that is capable of simulating human emotions, but Rey is pretty sure Muscovy might not understand much of that.
circumitus: (503): forewarning i'll probably have done those drugs with you (i wanna bring you to show and tell)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-12 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Her eyes narrow, growing suspicious of Muscovy's curiosity but similarly doesn't want to question his motivations. She has to remind herself sometimes that he's no normal kid.

"He is like-human, yes," Rey replies. "But his body is more synthetic than organic. And as long as he doesn't have any other vessels, he shouldn't be coming back."

This applies to Gregory back in her world, too. Last time she checked, he was gone for good.
circumitus: This is drunk and confused... (this is worse than naked and afraid)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-12 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not just any bodies. They have to be synthetic, like he is. So no worries about him stealing anyone's here."

There will be no body snatching to worry about should the asshole ever show up here.

And no, Rey still doesn't believe in curses.
circumitus: I CAN QUIT ANY FUCKING TIME I WANT. (i'm not drunk YOU'RE drunk)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-14 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"Am synthetic, partially." She casually shrugs, bringing up the fact like it's no big deal. "No worries, though. It's not possible to get hijacked... um, for him to take over my body, I mean."

Or, at least, she's pretty sure that he can't... couldn't. (Past tense.) He never tried, anyway; probably because he had no reason to. He hated her, so much that he put her through decades' worth of living and dying. He was even the reason for the scars on her face.

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-22 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny, she hadn't really thought of it that way.

"Am not immortal like Firo, but don't think aging is possible with this body."

Thanks to being partially made out of her father's immortal cell line.

She then realizes that she just told Muscovy that Firo is immortal, too. Was she not supposed to tell anyone about that? It can't be too bad if it's Muscovy, right?
circumitus: Just remembered. (i woke up in the shower this morning)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-24 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
There is also the possibility that they could disappear through one of the jumps. That it could happen one day and suddenly any one of them could vanish, just like that.

Rey doesn't have the heart (strange to think that she even has one) to tell Muscovy this, and nods in response to his excitement.

"We're not going to leave you if we can help it, if that's what you're worried about."

Not willingly, at least.
circumitus: i broke the girl's bed. i will not apologize about bragging. (i'ma do me)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-02-24 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
There is some information that Rey isn't sure she's at liberty to give out. Anything to do with herself, she has no qualms. But when it comes to Firo...

"You don't have to worry about him." She brings a hand over Muscovy's head and musses with his hair.

So long as none of the immortals from Firo's world show up, he should be fine. Or she suspects he should be fine. The impression she's got is that there are ways of neutralizing an immortal without fully killing them, but she tries not to think about that.
