As Murphy turned to look back, Henry saw the fear in this man's eyes widen and felt his own terror rise from within. If he wasn't scared before -which he most definitely was- then surely the dread he felt now would make anyone want to curl up in a fetal position and say their goodbyes.
But curiosity was also getting the better of him and Henry had to turn around and see what Murphy saw. When he did, it didn't make things better, but at least he now knew there was something giving chase after all, despite that it wasn't moving at all. He couldn't see what it was exactly, but the way it's figure was silhouetted against the dark told Henry otherwise.
He turned to face ahead, still running and knowing they couldn't outrun it for forever and spoke above his heavy breathing with "What is it?"
