You wake up in darkness.


There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

You are not alone.


There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

This is your welcome party.

We're more than just fighters. [even if Francis puts that as priority, James doesn't really, and he has to at least respect it, even if he doesn't agree] I'm sure we can figure something out.

[he extends a hand, still sitting because otherwise he'd probably fall over] Name's Barton.

[ frodo glances up at the hand before he smiles. in a way it sounds as if he were part of a fellowship, just as he had been, as he still feels even if they are all far away now. he takes the hand. ]

Frodo Baggins, it's a pleasure, Barton.

[ though..he doesn't think he really qualifies because..he's pretty old. :( oh well. ]

[if only Francis knew Frodo was old enough to be his grandfather]

This your first jump?

[ringbearer]

[ frodo shakes his head, a dry laugh escaping. ]

Afraid not. I believe it's about my fourth time falling from strange things.

I take it this isn't your first time either?

[willpunchfaces]

Second time for me. [smirks] Does it get any easier?

[ringbearer]

[ for a minute frodo's face is just flat, tone dry : ]
Never. Then again I am the smallest resident on the ship, at present. Or so it seems.

You are pretty short, dude.

[ringbearer]

Hobbits tend to be shorter than Big People.

What's a Hobbit?

[ringbearer]

A type of people where I come from. Namely, someone like me. I'm as tall as I'll ever be, currently.
[ he gestures to himself. ]

[willpunchfaces]

[looks down at Frodo, shaking his head] I am so sorry, dude.

[ringbearer]

frodo stares at him for a minute, before he scoffs a little, looking amused ]

It's quite normal to be this size where I come from.

[willpunchfaces]

I can't even imagine being that short. Pretty sure I was taller than you when I was eight.

[ringbearer]

Do you think I'm a child?
[ his smile becomes far more amused now. ]

[willpunchfaces]

[warily] ...no?

[ringbearer]

[ he smiles lightly ]
I'm glad. I think my age would shock you terribly if you did. At least, it seems to be a common response I've learned from my time here.

[willpunchfaces]

Yeah? What, are you like thirty or something? [oh Francis]

[ringbearer]

I turned 51 a short while ago.
[ says this with a boy's curls, huge blue eyes and a smile. yeah that don't sound too right!!!!! ]

[willpunchfaces]

...okay, now you're just making things up.

[ringbearer]

I can assure you I wouldn't lie about my own age.
We don't age as..Big--'humans' do.

[willpunchfaces]

So you stay short forever or something? [fifty is really old okay?! that's like forever]

[ringbearer]

..Well, I've matured, so no, I won't be growing any taller, I'm afraid.

[willpunchfaces]

Isn't it hard to do stuff though? How do you reach anything?

[ringbearer]

In the Shire, all that lives there are hobbits like myself. Everything is fitted exactly to our height.

[willpunchfaces]
