eighteenth jump;

CHARACTERS: any and all
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond
WARNINGS: maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: Keeping up with the tradition and copy pasted like always from the last one

You wake up in darkness.

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

You are not alone.

There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

This is your welcome party.

[ he nods enthusiastically at that, eager to get jack up to speed. after all, these pirates were -- kind of disappointing! ]

Yes, sir! Pirates boarded the Tranquility, made quite the ambitious attempt to steal as many things as possible!

[ he stands up straight, alert as he speaks, gesturing with his hands as he bounces a little on his feet, giving another nod. ]

It was -- quite distressing, to be honest. Lots of items snatched up, and they spent quite a lot of time evading us at first. Lots of destruction, and done is such a cowardly manner!

[ a small huff as he added with a small frown. ]

I suppose it was just -- a far cry from what one might imagine of pirates. There was no gallantry, or honor, or -- or anything that seems so admirable about pirates, yes? [ he has a very starstruck view of pirates okay ]

Aye.

[ Jack struggles not to be outwardly amused, and he's not sure how well he pulls it off. Soysauce seems to have a very romanticized view of piracy - how he got that idea, Jack doesn't know - and the fact is that it's simply not true.

There's not a lot of honor in piracy and very often Jack is seen as soft or weak for keeping to the very few morals that he has. Not that he particularly cares what other people think of him, but it's a fact nonetheless.

And his crew has complained to him about not stealing enough shiny things. And it's true that he and his crew hadn't done the tradition pirate board and steal routine in a while, but that's simply because Jack has been busy with other things. Like keep himself alive. Defeating Davy Jones. Defeating Blackbeard. But that's all in a days work for Captain Jack Sparrow.
]

's a shame I missed it. I woulda liked t' see space pirates.

[ if there are any signs of amusement showing in jack's expression, soysauce either completely misses them or mistakes them for agreement.

but then again -- soysauce is so convinced that there must have been some honor and gallantry amongst pirates. after all, that was always the way things where in the old stories he heard, the way they were written in books and stories. that must be the truth behind pirates, he's so convinced!

a small sigh, now that he's done airing his grief in that aspect, and soysauce gives a rueful little laugh. rubbing a hand against his cheek while looking a little sheepish before grinning at jack. there's something a little shy about how he speaks, and it's obvious that he still respects jack so very, very much. almost like a childish hero-crush. ]

Well -- for what it's worth, I think you're a far more impressive pirate than any of them were!

[ If that's the way Soysauce wants to see pirates - if that's the way Soysauce wants to see Jack - far be him to stop him. There's nothing wrong in believing in honor or camaraderie. As far as pirates go, Jack perhaps has more than the rest of the pirates combined.

Well, maybe not more than William Turner or Elizabeth Swann. But most pirates. Jack knows the value of keeping his word - because then, people tend to keep their word back. And the more he knows what people are capable of, the more reassured he is.

He grins when Soysauce compliments him. He hasn't done much pirating since he got on the Tranquility - mostly because, well. It's not like there's much money or gold to steal. And even if he did, it's not like it would be worth anything. But he's not going to deny that he is a pretty impressive pirate.

He grins.
] 'Course I am, mate. Space pirates ain't got nothin' on Captain Jack Sparrow.
