Her hearing isn't as keen as Fenris', but Hawke has something of a sixth sense when it comes to danger. You don't have it follow you or rush toward it as long as she has and not get used to the signs that it's about ready to descend. (It's always ready to descend where Marian Hawke is concerned.)
