The only thing that keeps L from casting a brief, half-amused sidelong glance at Darcy is the fact that he needs to keep his eyes on the man... who passes them without ever seeming to register their presence, then continues down the hall.
L lets out a breath, and some tension slips from his slouched shoulders. He keeps watching the man's departing back.
This does present another problem... the wound didn't look fatal, just painful, and if they continue in the direction they had been headed in, he'll be behind them. So, for the moment, he doesn't move. When they need to catch up, a few minutes of fast walking should do it.
"That was weird. I didn't recognize him... did you?"
A woman -- tanned, petite like Darcy, red-haired -- darts out of nowhere, and the heat that comes with her as she passes through L is intense enough to shock him, like suddenly being hit with a fatally high fever, or standing too close to an open crematorium oven. He makes a strange croaking sound.
