SIXTH WAVE
CHARACTERS: Everyone
LOCATION: Gravity Couch Room
WARNINGS: Possible swearing, possible violence, implied (and possibly explicit) nudity.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: Yep, we're continuing the tradition of re-hashing the game premise.
---
You wake up in darkness.
There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.
You are not alone.
There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.
After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.
If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.
This is your welcome party.

no subject
In space. The way he talks about it makes it abundantly clear that he's not from this time period and isn't completely comfortable with the terminology--or the concepts themselves.
"I'm Asato." Her question is answered after a long pause.
no subject
"We're on a spaceship?" Space exploration had been given up after the Rising, not much point in spending a lot of money just to have one of the astronauts eat his crewmember.
"How did we get here?"
no subject
People gone, too. That's the hardest part.
"You came out of one too." She smells and looks like it, at least.
no subject
She smiles at him again. She doesn't offer out her hand because it's best to avoid casual touch, in a culture like hers. "I'm Buffy. It's nice to meet you."
She pauses a moment, then shrugs. "I was actually asking, though, because of the...ears."
no subject
Or no one will say. Either way, he's yet to find someone who isn't completely in the dark about all this and why they're here. When she introduces herself, he echoes her name and nods. The lack of casual touching it just fine by him; he's only just beginning to figure out how that works, and he's perfectly content to be friendly but keep his distance.
"Ears." He looks up. "They are my ears. Ribika ears."
no subject
"Ribika? I'm afraid that the name isn't familiar with me. And, uh. How is it here, generally?"
no subject
He's not angry about that in the slightest. In fact, it's kind of fascinating, seeing so many different species from different worlds here.
"It's alright here. There are a lot of friendly people. But sometimes strange things happen, so you have to be careful. Be careful of the red smiling face. Something bad happened with that earlier."
no subject
"And with 'something bad', you're going to have to get a lot more specific."
no subject
He draws it out in the air as he says it (what are colons and parentheses?) to help illustrate what he means.
"That face was there when we were stuck in a room with skeletons. I don't know who the skeletons were, but the writing on the wall had the red smiling face. A lot of people saw it. That's the bad thing, too."
no subject
She's not even going to address the fact that the red smiling face seems to be some kind of...signature, rather than how people should be referring to whoever's behind it.
no subject
His tail curls pensively around his ankle.
"Since then, things have happened. But there's always been a way to fix them."
no subject
"And when you say, a way to fix them, could you perhaps explain a little more what you mean? It's just that I don't see how to fix something like a room filled with bones."
no subject
But for the most part, it seems like the good guys far outnumber the bad guys, and from what he gathered the recent demon infestation wasn't even started with completely malicious intent, either.
"We couldn't fix the room. But they could make the demons go away."
no subject
"If I can...demons how? Demons like story demons or demons like...some scientific technobabble that corresponds to what you're calling demons?"
no subject
no subject
no subject
no subject
no subject
"Is that bad?"
no subject
"It's fine...Have you heard of God? Jesus? Mary?"
no subject
But now he sure does feel like he should.
no subject
"I suppose it wouldn't be too late for you to. But please don't say that everyone here is similarly ignorant."
no subject
His ears lower and he avoids her gaze now, definitely beginning to feel uneasy.
"No, I'm not sure. Maybe some others know what those are."
no subject
After all, it didn't look like they were all cat-people.
no subject
He backs away a little. Well, he wasn't able to help her as much as he'd like, and that kind of troubles him.
"Just be careful."
