It's the Try To Forget About Your Imminent Doom Party! (open)

CHARACTERS: Luke and EVERYONE
LOCATION: First level rec room
WARNINGS: It's a party so probably all of the warnings though let's attempt to keep things PG-13 at the most, please.
SUMMARY: Accidental party! Via Luke's accidentally public network post. It's an open log and everyone is welcome to join in. There's booze and the rec room has games, and anyone may bring anything they like. Food and more booze are especially awesome. This log is also an excuse for the dumb and crazy antics you've been craving. Have at it!
NOTES: This will be a party-style log so feel free to create your own thread and reply to others' threads.

Maybe you showed up right on time or even brought food, booze, or music to get things started. Maybe you're fashionably late and the party's already happening as you arrive. Either way this is your party now. Go nuts!

Biggs wasn't troubled when Luke inadvertently invited the entire ship to their private affair. Friendly by nature before he's had a drink, now that Biggs has imbibed a few he greets each stranger who takes a seat nearby as if they were an old friend. The trials they'd faced over a month ago still fresh in his mind, solidarity with the rest of the ship comes easily. Many of them had done something unbelievable, together - they'd survived against impossible odds, and that was something Biggs hoped none of them forgot. There were no doubts that even more demanding tests laid in wait, and Biggs is eager to learn who among them, new residents and old alike, were up for the challenge.

Biggs makes his way about the party, eventually settling at the table to make conversation. He's a pleasant drunk, true, but in this state also extremely susceptible to dares - or competition.

Biggs jostles Luke playfully mid-laugh, regaling Luke with tales from the Rebellion; in particular, back when it was just four of them assuming they were the only ones intolerant to cruelty. He speaks of graduation night and how he found his like-minded friends.

"So Delund, he had a good head on his shoulders, but he decides right then to tell a crazy story." Biggs shakes his head, unable to keep himself from chuckling before he even tells it. The lot of them were worried about plans that would later become the Death Star, and Delund took up the task of keeping their celebration from turning sour!

"He says, 'I've heard of a guy whose neighbour said he never wanted to see his ugly face again. So this guy buys the mining rights to his planet's moon, building tunnels for years... Then, when the neighbour looks to the sky one night, he lets charges in the tunnels blow and the trenches carve out a picture of his face!'" Biggs grins wide, well aware of how ridiculous such a story sounds, like a myth that would be passed around by children. They didn't think it was very funny at the time, but Biggs is drunk enough, now, and removed enough from the context of that conversation to find the story humourous. He thinks of how Luke would have fit right in with his friends from the Academy, far removed from Fixer and company's spite. "Could have happened somewhere! The Galaxy is big enough."

[personal profile] hisowndream 2014-08-05 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Biggs nods sagely. In contrast to Luke, his smile doesn't dim in the slightest; he's more than happy to hear someone finally admit he was right all along. "You should have." He takes another swig of his drink as if he needs it before patting Luke on the shoulder - he doesn't need the force to know when to pick his friend up before he slips into sadness. "But I knew you'd end up in the right place." He'll say it until Luke believes in himself as much as Biggs does.

Remembering something, Biggs begins to laugh again. "When you meet him, you should ask Delund how he woke me after Hobbie's concussion grenade did me in." The look on his face says otherwise, ready to launch into one more story if Luke permits him to. The implication is, of course, that Luke will return someday to the Rebel Alliance and meet all of the friends that Biggs had left behind. Thus Biggs has begun his gradual attempt to build up a tolerance in Luke to the possibility of one of them disappearing from the ship - or, rather, his own way of reminding Luke that his life went on without him. But it's only an implication, and not enough, he trusts, to upset him.

Jennifer didn't have anything she could bring, but since she'd been invited, she decided to stop by the party anyway. While it was easy to lose herself in the medbay, learning how to use all of the equipment and getting to know her fellow medics, she wanted to keep putting herself out there and make more friends.

Soon, she had a plate, but she lingered near the food table, as though unsure of what to do next.

Having gathered himself a plateful of food and a cup of beer, Bahorel caught the wandering glance of the woman at the edge of the table and flashed her a cheery grin.

"You seem a bit lost, mademoiselle," he greeted jauntily, if kindly. "Are you in need of a companion?"

[personal profile] forsometimenow 2014-08-07 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Jennifer returned the smile shyly and nodded.

"That's the idea," she replied. "I only arrived here on the last jump, so... I don't know too many people yet. Guess 'lost' is a good word for it."
daringwaistcoats: (now don't forget to breathe down there!)

[personal profile] daringwaistcoats 2014-08-08 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Bahorel smiled a little more warmly, and made a few steps forward to settle and speak at a more comfortable distance.

"Ah, you are new! I've just surpassed my twelfth or thirteenth jump now, myself, so welcome! You must take care to not get lost in the original sense; the Mlle. Tranquillité is not a kind mistress, and enjoys her tricks and games as much as the next gamin, and with as wicked a mean streak."

Standing by the food is a skeleton in a black robe. Thankfully he at least left the scythe home?

The curry is from him and he's eating some of it now, while trying to blend into the crowd.
daringwaistcoats: (well done -- for a puny human)

[personal profile] daringwaistcoats 2014-08-06 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Quite the feat, really; Bahorel would applaud your attempt, if he wasn't entirely bemused at the sudden sight of a ... yes, a skeleton standing there -- eating, even. He wondered mildly how the logistics of that worked, but as he was no doctor, and even if he were, there was certainly no way that eighteenth century French medicine could explain that any more than modern medicine could.

Carrying his plate and cup, he peered onto his? her? the ... creature's? plate as he sidled up near him. "That stew-like thing is quite good; nothing like what I've eaten before." Amiable small talk, and a pleasant enough grin. "Would you happen to know what they call it?"
likescats: (I SEE YOU THERE)

[personal profile] likescats 2014-08-11 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Death turns towards the person who joined him. His voice is a strange one, it sort of appears in your head, bypassing the ears.

YES. IT IS CALLED CURRY. I THOUGHT PEOPLE MIGHT LIKE TO TRY SOME.
daringwaistcoats: (you're a strange fellow aren't you)

[personal profile] daringwaistcoats 2014-08-13 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Somewhat startled by that strange sensation in his mind; most of the people with whom Bahorel had come to be acquainted on this ship had been, more or less, human thus far. It took him a brief moment to regain his bearings, but once he had, it would remain that cheery enough disposition, and perhaps all the more intrigued by his new companion as a result of his bemusement.

"'Curry'..." Bahorel rolled the word about his tongue. "I've never had anything quite like it. A bit spicier than I am accustomed to, but good, nonetheless. Did you make it yourself?"

Death could probably blend in just fine if she just didn't stand next to the skeleton. But why would she do that?

"Sometimes I miss the social gatherings." Mayfield had a lot of problems. But they had certainly known how to party.

THERE ARE CERTAINLY LESS OF THEM HERE.

Holidays, prom, we happen to be bored parties. Yeah Mayfield was super social compared to this place.

PERHAPS IT IS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT ASSIGN US FALSE LIVES HERE.

"That might be it. No jobs to make sure we meet each other, either." Not that that stops her, of course. She's never been one to shy away from talking to strangers. Even when strangers were suddenly a possibility.

"Maybe without the trappings people just forget."

Bahorel arrived without knowing what the party was for, but figured, hey! An opportunity for socializing and mingling with new faces, so why not.

He set down and unwrapped a cloth that produced the heavenly smell of fresh-baked bread -- two loaves, one a little burnt, the other a little too doughy still, and both lumpy, but certainly edible, if the latter of his first three tries were any indication of his success. He would get the timing and temperature thing down eventually, even if it took a few months in between for Bahorel to muster up the patience for the art.

It wouldn't take long before he'd have a plate and cup of his own in hand, and munching on a piece of the burnt bread.

Eponine had only decided to go as an after-thought. She wanted something to drink, mostly, and there was only so much you could do on a ship when you were not familiar with any sort of... Well, anything the ship had. But she understood toasters and now refrigerators. And that there was a party.

So here she was, dressed in her best dress, which was still anachronistic given the space-ship, standing off to the side, drinking. She'd already had a few glasses when she recognized Bahorel standing near her with- is that-?

"Fresh bread!" Eponine gasps, reaching for one of the loaves on the table and ripping off a chunk. It had been some time now, since she'd been on the streets. But the smell of fresh bread was enough to pull her back, remind her how limited a commodity it was.
daringwaistcoats: (well looky here!)

[personal profile] daringwaistcoats 2014-08-13 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
At the familiar voice, Bahorel turned with an amused grin and a burst of laugh at her enthusiasm. "Ah, if it isn't ma petite louve! Or shall I say now, 'mademoiselle'? You have become respectable, you know, as the mistress-- ah, the girlfriend to our dear friend Michel."
jondrette: (smiling)

[personal profile] jondrette 2014-08-13 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"No, no, I am still your petite louve, just as Gavroche is my petite loup. But do not fool yourself so as to believe that I am respectable! I shall never be that, though that is how our dear Michel likes me best." She grins, dimples visible on her cheeks.

"But indeed, it is me, and you, my dear Ambrose!"
