[ There's been this strange pattern lately with people he's had cause to talk to, where they can't seem to believe he just genuinely wants to make sure they're alright, and there's nothing in it for him. The resistance - and even hostility, in some cases - doesn't much bother him, although he tries to be respectful about their wishes, at least. ]
