1.) his best friend and the woman he loves are siblings.
2.) the woman that you've been sort of flirting with for the past year is their mother.
3.) you know their father.
4.) everything is terrible (well, it's still terrible)
sometimes he just needs a beer and someone to play cards with. instead he has no one - his own fault - and a beer.
where is a giant wookie when you need him?]

It’s almost enough to make a lost girl miss Neverland.
So she hits up one of the bars towards the end after coming off a security patrol, and that bar happens to be the one on Han’s level. Leaning over the bar to grab a bottle of something indistinguishable from any of the other spirits the ship stocks, she glances sidelong at him. ]
Rough week?

[it seems on par with the rest of the shit that goes down here. han's been lost in the corridors, almost suffocated on a trip out, been trapped in engineering and now a crazy plague took over the entire damn ship.
maybe he should have stayed on the streets of Coreilla, it seemed to be safer than on here.]
Patrol?

Just looks like you haven’t gotten a lot of breaks.
[ Her shrug is clear: he doesn’t have to talk about it, but that’s what bars are for, right? ]
no subject
he puts it down and pours himself a glass of whatever she's having before downing it with gulp.]
We haven't gotten any breaks. Even if we do, you know it's just another lie.
[lies, lies, they're all LIES.]
no subject
[ So, she’s not seeing the ‘lie’ there. But Emma’s also a chronic pessimist, so her lack of surprise is perhaps a result of that. ]

[or maybe he contracted being optimistic from being around luke and leia for a short time. usually it was the other way around; it was chewie being the one that had to tell han to stop being such a shit.]
no subject
[ But she doesn't rank that to Tranquility's credit. Besides which ... ] Even then, the abandoned vibe didn't make for the best welcome mat to begin with.
no subject
[get caught twice, shame on me. he doesn't add that much as he takes a big gulp before making a face.]
Is this from Earth? [he hates that planet.]
Listen, I've been on dozens on abandoned ships - it's not that bad.

Abandoned spaceships?
[ Emma tries to curb her surprise—it’s not news to her that some of the Tranquility’s passengers are familiar with space travel. Han just happens to be one of the first she’s really stopped to speak to at length. ]
That makes one of us who’s well-adjusted. This tech anything like what you’re used to seeing?
no subject
[as if it's one of the most obvious things you could ever point out. though, sadly, he actually has to stop to think about how people don't have access to space travel. for a moment, he pauses thinking hard about what advice he has to offer.]
No, I just know how to pick things apart. That's the most important thing.
[he's seen enough people think that they know what they're doing rewire something or the other and their ship blows up midflight. he might have been one of those people had it not been for chewie.]
The tech here is backdated at best. Might as well tell me to drive on land and sail on water.
no subject
On second thought, his patronizing attitude leaves her disinclined to admit that, so she just closes her hand into a fist and drops it to the bar. ]
Got it. Retro.
[ She offers a tight smile as if to excuse her own lack of technological prowess. Back in Boston, she'd felt capable. In Storybrooke, she'd felt like a goddamn hacker. Here, she's a child. ]
If outdated tech is your biggest gripe on this ship, you're one of the lucky ones.
no subject
[he doesn't mean to sound condescending, he just has resting asshole face. regardless, he shrugs it off because there are more important things to be disgruntled about. ]
... What's a retro? [says young harrison ford. ]
It could kill us. One short-circuit during a light speed jump and your molecules are ionized.
no subject
[ Said to the disparaging tune of 'wow, thanks, asshole. That helps.' She works her way past the sour expression on her face and straight into … discouraged. Which, truthfully, is Emma's default series of Looks. ]
It's not like we have the kind of access to fix anything like that. Besides, the thing's been holding its own for some thirty jumps now, right? If it were gonna shake apart, don't you think it would have already?

A ship this size needs at least a dozen engineers just for a reactor alone - if it uses one. Usually, cruisers this size need someone to make sure that we have to keep systems running.
There aren't enough people keeping this thing running.
no subject
[ And it begs an interesting question: are there more people on board that they don't know about, or are they ... not really still flying? The latter makes her shudder to consider, and she stares despondently into her drink as a result. ]
no subject
[which he hates, you can tell by the way that he just shoots his drink back.]
Something's got the ships computers running. Other than that - I don't know.
no subject
Great. Everywhere we look, there are more questions without answers.
no subject
And night drinking.
[all around drinking, you know? he's just as frustrated as she is.]
