Unarmed is a pretty valuable skill to have- weapons aren't always available. I wouldn't be averse to learning how to use a knife, though- it'd be easier and safer for me to carry than a gun. Being a medic, I'd like to not accidentally injure my patients. [This is said with no small amount of self-deprecation.]
