[ It's dark, and quiet. Late, with the sky a solid black, a few hours off from the emerging sun up. There are very few people awake, and the camp is a sprawling site of tall tents and stacks of supplies, with glaring electric lights showing up the perimeter while other stretches remain dark and shadowered. Somewhere, Hawke is using the blunt edge of a utility knife to scrape and lever mud off the bottom of his boot.

Somewhere else, Dog is not so easily distracted.

They tend to split up, the mabari more than capable and perhaps even more efficient when operating alone. He is a big beast of a dog, an earth-reference point placing it between a pitbull and a mastiff and maybe a little bit of bear, with short fur sleek on muscled body, dusty brown and black around thick muzzle. Small eyes glitter in the dark and paws sink into soft dirt and mud, quiet save for gentle panting, the occasion snuffle.

Then, Dog's ears prick at the sound of something inherently suspicious. With a quiet, querying whine, he goes to investigate on near silent paws, the pert triangles of his ears raised and attentive. His resting face is that of half-snarl. ]
