It was amazing how quickly time could pass. Already, Mordecai had been stuck on this damn ship for a week - a week too long, in his opinion, but there wasn't much to do about that. Most of his and Lilith's thoughts on how they might get out of here already had proven futile. Having spent as much time reading the comms as he had, though, that didn't really surprise him. There wasn't much that they'd thought of that hadn't already been tried.

He wasn't about to give up on at least finding out more about the workings of the place, though. There was a lot of information out there that the ship's other residents knew that wasn't written down in any obvious place - he'd learned that much already from Jaye and her descriptions of the ship's interior. He doubted those he really wanted information from - namely, the ship's Captain and Commander - would ever visit the bar and talk openly with the passengers while inebriated. That would be too good to be true. But getting to know a few more people could yield surprising results.

Well, that, and really, he just wanted a drink, so justifying it to himself didn't actually matter. Besides, he was curious about the place. He sent a quick text to Lilith, who he'd never known to turn down a night of social drinking, then headed on in to see who was there, and most importantly, what the regulars recommended he try.

He knew when, because he'd felt the same thing eventually himself. "We're gonna have to leave them behind someday anyway, unless you really wanna stay there the rest of your life." Which he'd been tempted to do for a while. Things had been good. But there was so much more out there to discover, and the desire to settle somewhere for a while had passed. There were a couple people he could blame for that, but there wasn't much point - he wouldn't have been happy on Pandora forever anyway.

"Those Vaults won't discover themselves." If Roland had been around, maybe. She had almost convinced herself she would have been happy sticking around if he were still there, but she didn't think that was true either. Eventually she'd have to leave or she'd start to feel too cooped up.

"'Xactly." He smiled a little, remembering that day they'd climbed into the volcano, him and Brick, just happy to be alive, and there she was, making one of the biggest discoveries the universe had ever known. It was hard not to attribute most of what had happened just then to pure luck - but luck was never something he'd put much stock in. "Wonder what'll happen once we've found all of 'em. You gotta figure there's some evil putamadre in each one, right? But maybe killin' 'em all will get us somethin'."

"Can't be any worse than anything else we've faced, but I bet the Eridians left behind more guardians and surprises for us." And loot, hopefully. The first Vault hadn't contained much, but the second had made up for it.

"Oh, you know they did. I just wonder what it all means, you know? Did they really just go 'round and lock up all the things they didn't like, or like that first one, is there actually more to it? Can't be a coincidence that the second one gave us a map, either."

"I don't know. I wish I did because I have a a feeling they know more about Sirens than anyone living does."

"Yeah. Maybe they're still out there somewhere. Maybe we'll find 'em. Then they can tell you about what you are." He eyed her tattoos thoughtfully, then frowned and had a drink. "Six galaxies we've colonized, and six Sirens. Maybe someone should colonize the next nearest galaxy, see if we get a seventh."

She laughed at that. "You really thing the universe needs another one?"

He grinned. "Sure, why not? 'Specially if one of 'em's a toddler right now after Steele got herself killed. Might as well get another going 'round the same age. They could go on playdates."

"Playdates?" She pretended to contemplate that before shaking her head. "Yeah, I'd rather not see how that would go down." She remembered well enough how little control she had over her powers when she was younger.

He laughed at her reaction and refilled his glass from one of the bottles, then poured more into hers as well. "What, you don' like the idea of two toddlers destroying everything in their wake? They'd have so much fun pretending they're superheroes. 'Las Infantes Infernas'. Burning houses down in search of villains."

Was he being serious right now? She almost couldn't believe what he was saying and she knew the alcohol must have had something to do with it. She laughed and subtly pushed one of the bottles out of his reach. "You should promote it as a show for the ECHOnet. It can replace Handsome Jack's showcase of Opportunity."

"Gotta get 'em started early, right? Gonna be in the spotlight all their lives, might as well make some cash outta it."

"I can't argue with that logic." Except she could, but it was more entertaining to go along with it. "Think you'll make that your next venture after our hunt for the Vaults?"

"Sure, if they give me 80 percent of the profit."

"Good luck getting that kind of a deal."

"Hey, with my name on it? Might be possible. I'm sure not gonna settle for less when I can make plenty dealing guns and collecting bounties."

"Yeah, but you could still do that on the side. The main work would be finding the toddlers. After that, the rest is easy."

"Mm. Good point. Though, colonizing another galaxy. That'd probably take too much outta the show's budget." He chuckled at that - man, everything was funny right now - and downed the contents of his glass, then smiled. "Y'know, I'm glad you're here, even if it means Sanctuary doesn't have one of us right now. At least for right here an' right now, we're doin' okay."

She matched his smile and folded her arms onto the bar. "And we've got a better chance of going home with the both of us working on it."

"Damn right we do." Hmm. Should he have more? Maybe it wouldn't hurt to just finish off the bottle. Be a shame to leave it sitting around open, after all. Not all alcohol kept well when opened.

She could see him eying the bottle again and knew this could go on for a while. "How long are you planning to stay here?"

He shrugged and gave a noncommittal grunt. "What, you got somewhere to be?"

"No, but I was thinking I'd take a walk around the ship. I want to familiarize myself with it more."

"Oh. Yeah. You should go do that." He'd done some of that himself, and right now he had zero desire to get up and walk around. It was comfortable here. He'd make his way back to his room later. Eventually.
