[ Two hours after Carolyn's post is when the training starts, with Simon and Carolyn covering their respective subjects with as much patience as possible. Questions and discussions are welcome, as is mingling both before and after. Share what you know, learn what you don't know, remember that space and/or the ship could kill you, and meet people! ]

Isn't that a little dull? I mean, from what I can tell it's quite empty.

[ empty and dangerous, but this has been all about making it less dangerous, so perhaps that's a little dull too. ]

Anyway. I wanted to ask you about space radiation.

[suddenlycaptain]

It can be. The excitement is usually something dangerous -- pirates, mercs, cults.

[ But she shrugs. ] I love flying. I like seeing the planets and stations we dock at.

[ Of course, then Arthur says "space radiation" and Carolyn looks remarkably like someone's just kicked her in the stomach. ]

Simon covered that.

[prince]

Er, yes. Yes, the physician was — quite thorough.

[ how he managed to not fall asleep, he's still not sure. force of will, he supposes, learnt from listening to geoffrey of monmouth talking the histories in long council meetings. ]

It's just, my manservant is a bit of an idiot, and apparently more superstitious than I gave him credit for, and he brings it up a lot.

[suddenlycaptain]

[ Because it's important, Arthur. ]

Merlin. [ And there's the understanding, Carolyn taking a step back to look at Arthur properly. Hmm. Not what she'd expected, though she guesses she hadn't really known what she was expecting. ] Which makes you Arthur.

[prince]

It seems my reputation precedes me.

[ he doesn't seem bothered by it, because really, he's the closest thing his kingdom has to a celebrity, and even here the name pendragon seems to have a particular amount of meaning, so he's quite used to it. ]

Arthur Pendragon.

[ he's not sure if he should offer her a wrist-clasp, but she's quite masculine, and he's trying to get better about working women, so in the end he just does it and offers his hand. ]

[suddenlycaptain]

Something like that.

[ Not necessarily the reputation he may want, as most of what Carolyn knows is that Merlin helps him get his armor on and takes care of his horse. Either way, there's suddenly some wrist clasping -- it's not too foreign an action, but it's still a bit odd. ]

Captain Carolyn Fry.

[ Strange, to be introducing herself as captain -- it's been months and she still hasn't gotten used to it. ]

What did you want to know?

[prince]

[ Arthur's reply is prompt. ]

How to make him stop panicking about it short of throwing something at him every time he brings it up.

[ Because he's tried that tactic, and it doesn't work. ]

[suddenlycaptain]

[ Well. Whatever works. ]

He shouldn't be panicking about it anymore in the first place, after I talked to him.

[ Sigh. ] The ship is protected from radiation. As long as the ship is intact and proper safety precautions are taken, there's no reason to worry about it.

[prince]

And it doesn't "cause magic" or anything like that.

[suddenlycaptain]

[ Blank stare. ] No. [ In fact, that's going up on her list of The Stupidest Things Carolyn Fry Has Ever Heard. ]

[prince]

All right. Good.

[ it's good to get clarification from the horse's mouth, as it were. ]

How often do you run these things?

[suddenlycaptain]

I try and do it once a jump, but things happen. Comms being down, crisis situations, that sort of thing. Still, once a jump is what I aim for, and we record each session.

[prince]

I'll have to sit down and watch them. It's important to have a good understanding of one's environment.

[ in case one ever needs to wage a ... war ... in it....... ]

[suddenlycaptain]

It'd sure make our lives a lot easier if everyone felt that way.
