CHARACTERS: Old!Tony Stark
LOCATION: One of the media libraries.
WARNINGS: Alcoholism?
SUMMARY: After some time lost in the ship, Tony's feeling tired... and thirsty. He's trying to distract himself as best he can.
NOTES: Just putting him out there for anyone who'd like CR with him.
In a media library, there sits a man wearing reading glasses.
Well, "sits" may be oversimplifying things. There sprawls a man, there twitches a man, there paces a man while muttering to himself. Yeah, he's doing a great job of not looking crazy, really.
Right now, though, Tony doesn't much care. It's not lost on him that there are two more of him aboard this ship, and yet people are still stuck here. Obviously, his usual methods aren't serving any of them well. And so he'd gone exploring -- quietly, on his own. He could've enlisted his kids, such as they were, but really, the little Avengers deserved a break for once... and besides, every time he had one of those "really should've died" close calls, it always seemed to lead to him putting himself in even more danger. And this time... this time it wasn't really a close call, was it? He died. The kids were there, and they saw it happen.
Tony's been living on borrowed time for most of his life, but as far as he can tell, there's precious little left to borrow. So he thought he might as well be of use. But the exploration of the ship led to nothing but a maze of corridors that seemed to go on forever, and a persistent feeling of something breathing down the back of his neck.
He desperately wants a drink, and for the first time in years, alcohol is readily available. It's a tempting prospect, especially now that there are people out there he'd have to justify himself to. The kids are hard enough, even if he did overstate his role in Ultron's creation... He doesn't want to have to face yet another version of himself, or one of his friends or teammates, and try to explain how his mistakes ruined the world. Easier to just drink until it doesn't matter anymore, until he couldn't care less what anyone, up to and including Steve Rogers, thinks of him.
...But he made a promise, and he doesn't trust himself enough not to break it if he ends up blackout-drunk. And he knows himself well enough to know that he will end up blacking out if he falls off the wagon now, especially since he's no longer used to putting away mass quantities of alcohol every day.
So he's here, going through whatever media he can get his hands on. He knows the ways technology and pop culture feed each other -- he's a futurist, and that's part of the job description. So if he wants to better understand the ship, why not start with the culture? He trusts his other selves and the other science types around to have poked at the tech already. What he wants to know is what these people value, what they fear, what they take for granted. In other words, what they're building for. If he understands the factors that influenced the ship's creation, it'll tell him more about the ship itself... in theory, anyway.
In practice, he's tired and fidgety and he can't seem to focus on anything. The fact that he's been drinking coffee like it was water (Oh, coffee, he missed you...) isn't helping matters.
A distraction would probably be welcomed, if anyone's feeling brave enough to poke at the twitchy, muttering crazy person.

In any case, he has drifted to the library today, and he finds a somewhat familiar person there, to which he clears his throat and gives Tony a small nod.
"Havin' fun in here?"

"Barnes."
He shrugs. "I wouldn't call it fun. I think it's interesting how little there is here that's of use in any way." He runs a hand through his hair and sets his datapad aside for the moment in favor of more coffee from the pot he brought in with him. "If you're in here looking for some light reading, I can at least tell you what to avoid."

"But I guess it couldn't hurt, it'd be better 'n going to the gym again or looking around."
