CHARACTERS: Emily Thorne & Nolan Ross
LOCATION: Nolan's room
WARNINGS: n/a
SUMMARY: Returning from a canon update this jump, Emily is worried about Nolan so she goes to find him.
[ It was another month and the jump should have gone by as it normally did, except it was anything but that this time around for Emily. Time barely seemed to have passed here and yet she had over a years worth of memories from back home on top of what she remembered about this place.
She had only heard of people leaving the Tranquility, so for her to experience it herself only to end up right back here was the last thing she expected. None of her issues with that mattered though because her thoughts immediately went to Nolan. She wasn't sure what he last remembered considering he wasn't telling her anything but either way she couldn't help but be worried about him and that was why she was heading up to his room to check up on him.
Technically he did tell her he needed to deal with this on his own, while she finished what she started but that was kind of irrelevant here and honestly she was okay with that. If there was one thing she knew for certain right now, it was that was that she wasn't going to leave him alone in this— she owes him that much, at least. When she reaches his floor, it's not too long afterward that she finds his room and finally knocks, waiting for him to open the door ]

Most of the time, though, he was bored. He could do with something to break now and again. From relaxing on his bed, he held the USB drive in front of his face. He said something about how it was such a cruel trick to give him Carrion here. Of all places. It would do him no good here.
He stuffed it into his pant pocket when he heard a knock at his door. He approached, and opened it - only a crack until he saw it was Emily. Then he opened it all the way and leaned against the doorframe. ]
To what do I owe this pleasure?

For Emily it was more so the former but as far as she can tell from looking at him, he seems okay, but not knowing what he last remembers makes this trickier. If he does remember the same thing she does as of this jump, then really it's no wonder he was refusing to tell anything. However, if that wasn't the case then she knew she had to be cautious with her words— that was something she was good at least, so she starts off by responding with something simple] I just thought I'd check in and see how you were doing after the jump. Can I come in?
no subject
She would note that his room is neat, for the most part. Sans the random notes he has attached to the wall. ]
You're always welcome. What's wrong, Em?
no subject
There was so much she could say in response to that but she needs to focus and figure out what he last remembered then she could go from there] Well to start with, I think I just went home during the jump considering I remember more than I last told you.

[ Sure, he has been frazzled, but less so than expected, simply because of the amount of things that he truly does remember. After all, Jack was important to both of them, but Amanda was different for Emily. Her death really hurt her. He understood it was like losing family. ]

Probably a year or so, it was around the end of October— we were attending Victoria's Halloween Masquerade event. Does any of that sound familiar?
no subject
[ He purposely omits the additional information. At the very least, knowing Jack was in the hospital wouldn't do any damage. Now, though, it sounded like she knew more than he did. He understood that frustration of not knowing. ]
A year passed over night?

The last conversation she had with Nolan was all too clear in her mind. Emily couldn't tell him about Padma being killed by the Initiative. She was more than aware that she just as much to blame for what happened and given the the state it put him in, it was better that he didn't know]
After what happened with Amanda, right? I'm not sure how this works exactly, but the fact I remember that should be proof enough. Jack made it out okay, in case you were wondering. [She figured that much he would at least want to know. Jack was just as much his friend as he was hers, despite how Jack wasn't really on speaking terms with her much these days]

After what happened to Amanda.
[ There's still some hesitation in his voice. He knows how much that had hurt Emily, and he didn't want to make her talk about how she ended up. After all, at home, the wounds were still fresh. He locked the door to his room, just in case, then took a set at his desk to face her. ]
So you know past that, then. Interesting. Even with my curiosity, I won't ask. I've watched enough shows with time travel to know that I shouldn't.
no subject
As Nolan decides to take a seat at his desk, Emily is a bit surprised that he was refraining from asking despite his curiosity because really when has that ever stopped him from asking her anything before? Normally she would have no problem with selectively telling him things on a need to know basis but keeping the information about what happened Padma to herself was something Emily genuinely felt bad about but just like how he kept things from her, this was for his own good. That's not to say she was against telling him everything outside of that, but if he didn't want to know then she wasn't going to say anything more either.
She turned her glance so she was looking directly at him, trying to look a little less worried about him and more like her usual self which was easy enough] And here I thought you'd try and ask anyway. You think saying something might make things worse, is that it?
no subject
[ It didn't mean he wasn't curious, but he knew that it was better for him to not know. The way things were at home, it was unpredictable. ]
If I knew what happened there, could I change it?
[ He wanted to know, to be honest, if his learning here would have any bearing on his ability to make judgments there. If not, then he doesn't think he should worry about the things he can't change. ]
no subject
I didn't exactly remember being here while I did go back so it probably wouldn't affect things too much whether I tell you or not.
no subject
[ He just....would rather not know things he can't do anything about. Not now. He relaxed in his chair, leaning back. ]
I'm alive, and I'm doing just fine. I don't know what has you so concerned. But Em - I'm sure you understand. How are you, though?
[ Should he be worried about you. ]
no subject
There wasn't anything she could do, she wasn't there and it frustrated her with how out of her control the events these last few months were. It's obvious Nolan is okay but that's only because he doesn't remember the same as her— if he did, then she knew this conversation would be going a lot differently than it was right now.
It was still ironic he was asking about how she was again, probably because of how concerned she looked before but no, he really shouldn't be worried about her. Her response is probably expected but it's not like she can elaborate much] I'm just fine, Nolan.

I trust you because you're you. You know, I'm wondering, hypothetically, what would happen if Carrion was able to be used here. I have been for awhile. Not that I'm inclined to test it - I depend on this ship to keep me alive, but curiosity killed the cat.
no subject
She knows better that there isn't much use dwelling on what happened but she'll make it up to him though and help him deal with this when they are able to get back. She was just about to respond with something else until he brought up Carrion. Prior to going back home she wouldn't have any idea what he was talking about but now she couldn't help but be slightly surprised at his mention of the program] You actually have it with you?
no subject
I do. I have it with me. This ship, or whoever brought me here, thought it would be hilarious to give this to me. Of all things.

[ It wasn't quite the same as draining the power in a city. ]

If someone else got their hands on it here, though.
[ The thought is more terrifying than the device itself. ]
no subject
She turns her glance so that she's looking at him at that last statement because she can understand why he's concerned] I know, but it's safe with you though.
no subject
[ Of course, he didn't have to tell her to never repeat it. ]
I need to find somewhere safer to keep it than on myself.

[ He had no intention of telling anyone it existed, too ]

[ Yeah. He couldn't have possibly been more sarcastic there. He's not exactly pleased about this place. Especially considering all the things that went on at home just before he came here. He knew Jack was fine...but the reality of it was that there was so much more that would and will be happening that he just didn't know. ]

I'll take another look through it.

It is accurate to say it's something out of horror movie though.

[ Because he thinks everything about this place sounds like it is terrible. And only terrible. ]
