in which harry potter gets a surprise drop-in visit from his mum ( closed )
CHARACTERS: Harry Potter & Lily Evans
LOCATION: Kitchen on the 16th passenger floor.
WARNINGS: awkward family bonding!!
SUMMARY: Lily wants to spend some koala-t time with her future son, so obviously making him bake cookies with her is the best way to do it
[ despite the fact that Lily's fairly sure this might be awkward of her to even try and orchestrate, she's decided that it's time for her and Harry to spend some time together, yes, absolutely the right time for it. and it has nothing to do with the fact that James has been maybe possibly missing for a certain amount of days now, and there isn't anything she can do to fix it. it has nothing to do with wanting to check in with the small group of people who matter to her here. none.
and it's pretty optimistic of Lily to assume that Harry will be just sitting in his room with no future plans for the day, but she heads up to his floor without text messaging him first, just heads right on up and checks her communicator twice to make sure she has his passenger number right before knocking lightly on his door. ]
Harry? [ because she does't want him to think someone random is stopping by for a visit, it's just her, nothing to worry about. oh, but Godric, she's nervous now. is she 'someone random'? she could be. she doesn't think of herself that way but really, to Harry, she might be still, which is a little daunting. what is she doing here? ] --No rush or anything, just wanted to let you know that it's only me. [ ... ] Lily. [ ... ] I was hoping I could steal you for an hour or so, if you're not busy. [ ... ] I really do hope you're in, because otherwise I've been standing out here talking to noone-

"Lily! Of course, I'm entirely stealable. In need of being stolen, in fact."

Good, I'm glad to hear it. I've decided I should like to properly raid the kitchens, and I simply cannot do it alone. [ she grins, her chin lifting a bit just so she can nod, all very 'it has been decided', before she turns to take a few steps down the hallway. time to leave! apparently! she's nervous, okay, so she might be rushing things a little bit. ] Have you had lunch yet?

Harry gives his hair one last towelling, attempts to put some sort of order to it, and grabs his wand and glasses before they leave his room. Lily is welcome to notice that he keeps it relatively neat and that his few possessions - a diary, a book, and some basic stationary supplies - are displayed with care.

"How've you been? After the pirates, I mean."
ahehuehue gonna try prose
She wasn't honestly expecting him to have much experience with cooking, really, what boy his age does? But maybe it went along with the whole Chosen thing, maybe he really was that special, that different. Harry Potter, the boy who makes dinner for his loved ones. Or maybe Lily's just reading too far into things and wanting to put Harry up on the talled pedestal that has ever pedestalled. That's entirely possible as well.
"I've been alright. A little bit bored, honestly, I really miss my friends from school. It's a little disorienting going from having four roommates to none. And even just going from my Hogwarts dormitory to the metal-encased rooms here." She's trying to sound light about it, but the truth is she's still very uncertain about all of it, and living alone isn't helping. But it's not as if she can change that, not yet. Not until she befriends someone here and hopes they might actually like her enough to be her roommate. Right. "I suppose it's just a lot to get used to." She pauses, then- "How are you?"

"And, well, other than the lack of pumpkins, I'm well enough." While he desperately misses flying, he doesn't mind the lack of windows. "I've applied to work with the flight crew and trying to catch up on all the technology is keeping me more than busy."

The corners of her mouth turn downward a bit, in thought, trying to remember if she's managed to pick up on a recipe for pumpkin juice, or anything remotely like it, since she started reading into wizarding culture all those years ago. Maybe. She can't remember it off the top of her head, though. Anyway, she's more preoccupied by what he shares with her next-
"Flight crew? You mean you're going to learn how to fly the ship? Rather, the shuttles, I suppose?" ... Yeah, Lily still has very little knowledge about space, or space travel, or even space living, so. She sounds impressed, and a little nervous. "... Is it safe?"
no subject
"I miss my broom and I thought that the shuttles are as close as I'm likely to get."

He's all very matter of fact about it, because as far as he knows, that's just the way it is, but it's not normal. It's certainly ill-advised to fling teenagers out into the field without support.
