SUMMARY: So Edgeworth is in the brig on his own insistence for a murder he didn't commit. Come make fun of him! Throw things! Pay $2 for a bag of peanuts to feed him!

[Edgeworth doesn't look up when people come to see him. He just keeps looking at his hands, quiet and still; he says little. Still, he hasn't put in a request for no visitors, and he won't; it's less from a desire for company than from a desire for people to be able to see he's getting no special treatment. In the brig, like any other criminal, no matter that he was until recently the one guarding it.

He's in his suit still. He looks exhausted.]

Is that what you want to go down as? The man who killed for no reason?

[jurisimpudent]

[His fists tighten further. A bright, throbbing point of misery forms within him. He says, with difficulty:]

It doesn't matter to me what I go down as.

[supfirehawk]

[She shrugged.]

Your choice. I thought you might have a better excuse than finally getting bored enough to murder someone.

[jurisimpudent]

[He closes his eyes more tightly and grinds out - ]

I didn't -

[And then he clenches his jaw.]

[supfirehawk]

[That was closer to a response she was looking for and she decided to promt him for more.]

Didn't what? Murder him in cold blood?

[jurisimpudent]

[There's a long silence, with gritted jaw, and he finally says:]

No.

[supfirehawk]

Then what'd he do? Ruffle your hair the wrong way?

[jurisimpudent]

[Here, at least, he can speak with conviction.]

That is none of your business.

[supfirehawk]

Yeah, I know.

[She looks ready to leave again, but not without saying one last thing.]

You know, it's not the end of the world if you killed someone that deserved it. The ship's better off. If you want to talk about it, I'll be around when you get out.

[jurisimpudent]

[And Edgeworth struggles with the words in his throat, fights not to protest his innocence. He succeeds, finally - and says, instead - ]

To take a life is never right.

[She paused at the door out of the room and shook her head.] You'd be surprised how many good reasons you can find when you meet certain people. Enjoy your stay here, kid.
