something's here i'm not quite getting. though i try, i keep forgetting
CHARACTERS: ones tony stark and peter bishop
LOCATION: engineering departmeeent
WARNINGS: n..one? I THINK!?
SUMMARY: tony and peter hang out and are engineering geeks. the geekiest of all genius geeks. and blowing shit up. all day every day.
NOTES: BACKDATED TO.... earlier this month.
[ So, fine.
He wanted to poke his head into the engineering department and people were going to have to deal with it. Mainly, one Tony Stark, but everyone else who might also be around counted too. Sort of.
Because that was how Peter functioned, especially now when he was doing everything in his power to buck the proverbial system. He'd ingrained himself in it and once again - the government, his father, having a real job - but now that he'd been seemingly betrayed by his own goddamn life he was doing everything he could to not be the man he'd become anymore. He'd tried to run away, tried to pick up a job out of the country, tried to just be his own man when he didn't even know what that meant anymore. Except here he was, wiggling his way into engineering like it was what he was meant to do. Goddammit.
But he liked it. So why shouldn't he?
Taking the orange lift, Peter headed down into the engineering department with his hands shoved into his pockets, not quite what to expect. He doubted that he'd be able to reach all of it easily (or immediately, really) but still wanted to stick his nose where it probably didn't belong yet. He needed to wander already, and considering you weren't supposed to just go ahead and waltz into the depth of the ship, it satisfied his need to move. To go where he wasn't really supposed to and invariably, get into trouble. He couldn't really help it, and to say he was curious sounded young and ridiculous and immature, but it was true. There was a reason he liked chemistry just as much as he liked putting shit together -- it was all just to see if it'd work.
He just wasn't expecting for the department to be so damn big. Wandering wasn't really the right word to use in this case; he was walking, sticking his head around corners, entirely unsure of what there'd be and what doors he could go through. But really, when it came down to it just standing in the middle of one of the terminals was enough of a thrill. ]
Place just never ends, does it. [ What more could he have asked for? ]

Tony had meant what he said, the people on this ship, people like him and Sulu and several others who didn't really want to be stuck in one area were allowed to roam freely no matter what. It's nice, makes him nearly feel like he's at home. Minus the comforts of home technically.
As it stands, Tony walks in Engineering, well, walks, which is to say he practically zooms from place to place with an excitable energy normally. His— energy is a little low right now but that's to be expected when he's perhaps not sleeping very well. It's almost like he appears out of thin air, maybe, when he leans against the wall next to the terminal Peter is playing with. ]
It does, just takes a while. One of these days I'm coming up with a segway for all of us to use.

But Tony drops him back down to reality and Peter turns, a little wide-eyed from surprise before he relaxes. Not a space alien, not going to get eaten alive today; check and check. ]
You mean you haven't built one yet? That's be a way to put the engineering department on the map. Have everyone rushing down here to ride it. [ He's only joking. Sort of. As if engineers don't already have a bad enough reputation, just throw in a segway to make the whole thing that much worse. But it'd still be convenient -- Peter can't knock that.
Folding his arms across his chest, Peter's still half invested in staring around, like a kid that's been taken to Toys 'R Us for the very first time and's been left to wander aimlessly around. The whole place is suddenly a big ol' bucket of tinker toys and Peter shakes his head. ] I take it back, i'm not sure i'd want a ton of people working down here. It'd sort of ruin the appeal of the whole place.
