CHARACTERS: Jo Harvelle, Annabeth Chase James Potter and more
LOCATION: all over the place!
WARNINGS: can range from gore to psychological things to fluff
SUMMARY: these are my planned empathy links for October, taking place between october 11th through november 7th.
NOTES: this is closed to plotting, but I am still open if you would like to get in on this. my plotting post is here, so leave a comment there and we can make it work.

Because of how behind I am in general RP-terms, I am bowing down and kissing the ground you walk on and asking if you could possibly maybe PLEASE do the starter, if we have pre-plans with our characters. I know everyone's busy and everyone has a life but this would help me IMMENSELY like you don't even know.

HOWEVER, I have no problems with doing the starters if you're having problems with writing them up or coming up with something, so please let me know through plurk [plurk.com profile] disarmingly if you'd prefer I did the opener, which is totally fine! Really! I'm just so behind and I don't anyone to have to wait on me for the start of things.

Also let me know if I have mixed something up or if I misunderstood something with the plotting. c:

During this most recent bout of space-madness, Harry has been doing his best to keep away from the majority of the other travelers. Maybe it's cowardly, but he doesn't want to look into some stranger's eyes and see their expression change if (when?) they learn more about what he's really like.

It's even worse when he's able to recognize faces and places from the memories, because then he knows just who's had a look into his life. He's gone for a walk, deep into the oxygen gardens and done his best to get a little lost. The change in scenery gives him something to think about beyond the knowledge that whatever James sees, it's likely to disappoint him further.

When the madness started happening, James had - at first - found it the slightest bit entertaining. None of the memories he'd seen seemed to be all that invasive. Little moments of intense feeling, a distance smile or a place he's never seen before. They'd been simple and had made him curious, and that was about it. But as the days went on the memories got worse, and by worse, he means worse. He's seen things so private, they've made him uncomfortable, and feelings so intense it's left him feeling a little used.

James retreats to the gardens the moment they start getting too intense, because at least there he can think. He's already in the gardens when he closes his eyes for a blink and sees the memory, the familiar shadows cast by the trees in the enchanted forest. He sees the lake, he sees dementors, and he sees a Patronus, his but not, and that's when James knows.

Harry.

The headache starts low and thick in the back of his head, but the longer it sits, the more James feels the need to look for him. Probably a bad idea on his part, but he can't quite shake the urge.

Whether due to the nature of time travel or almost having his soul eaten, his memory of the dementors is fragmented and consists of strong emotions rather than any coherent narrative. There's cold in his bones, fear for Sirius' safety, and at first, an unshakable belief that his father had somehow come to save them both. The later knowledge that it was his own patronus, that he alone was responsible for his own salvation is bittersweet.

Once James has gone deep enough into the gardens, he might well notice a spray of red magical sparks. If he wants to avoid Harry, he can do so; but if he's come to talk, he might as well make his way to the little clearing.

And that's where he goes, following the red sparks like the sign that they are. The feeling of the enchanted forest still sits on his skin, but James knows where he is. Knows he's still on the Tranquility and knows he is about to run into his son, who he's been less than admirable when it comes to being around him.

But at the same time, the connection draws him in. When he sees Harry, he does stop a bit, almost afraid to move any closer.

"Harry."

Up off the ground, Harry has been sitting in the fork of a tree. It's not just a comfortable, but it's also secure. He's high enough that he can see anyone approaching and concealed by the tree so that others won't see him.

"Hullo, James." With his wand tucked away safely, Harry drops out of the tree. "For what it's worth, I'm sorry. For whatever you've seen."

James isn't surprised when he sees Harry drop out of the tree. It strikes him as a little strange because the urge to be up higher like that is one he also has, when he's out in the gardens, but he tucks the thought away. He shrugs a bit at Harry's apology, though.

"Not much to apologize for, really. One helluva patronus you can cast."

"Plenty of practice." Which either means that he works hard or that he's dealt with a great many Dementors. Or both. "Once you get the hang of it, they're a great way to pass messages. If you'd like, if you haven't learned yet, I could show you?"

They have the network and communicators, but Harry doesn't trust the system to last.
heorot: (snark ж not too shabby)

[personal profile] heorot 2013-10-27 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
James gets the feeling this has been more real-world practice than studying for an exam, which doesn't make him feel any better. But then he just shakes his head, smiling at bit at his own memory.

"Nah, I've got my patronus down. It was something of an obsession of Remus' back in fifth year, that we figured it out. Haven't used it much for messages, though."

Lily has. James remembers seeing her doe come and find him during the pirate invasion, and he shifts his feet.

Harry has never been very good at small talk and he's at a bit of a loss for what he ought to say next. Talking about magic is comparatively safe territory, but he's never been very good at playing it safe.

"I saw your parents and a bit of Hogwarts when you there." It might be noteworthy to mention that he saw 'James' parents' and not 'his own grandparents'. "That's ...umm, what were their names? If you don't mind me asking?"
heorot: (question ж ey mum)

[personal profile] heorot 2013-10-31 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Usually James is much better at this, but he could blame the tension (he is mostly to blame for) between the two of them. Safe or no, he's glad when Harry continues.

When he says your parents it takes James a moment to realize he's talking about Harry's grandparents. The idea of his mother as a grandmum makes him want to smile, but he holds it back. "Quintus and Margaret. What'd you see?" There's nothing much behind his question other than simple curiosity.

"Nothing too personal. It was all little bits of good things. Hogwarts. Your family. Lily. I'm sorry that I saw them without asking, but I'm glad I did." Harry can't deny that it feels good good to fill in a little bit more beyond the photo album. While he's gotten used to thinking about Remus and Sirius as teens, it's odd to see other familiar faces from Hogwarts so much younger.
