CHARACTERS: Jaina Solo and Padmé Amidala.
LOCATION: The Shuttle Bay.
WARNINGS: Rated R for kittens. (Possible mild angst. That's about it.)
SUMMARY: An unexpected first meeting.
Jaina has wanted to come to the shuttle bay since the moment she first woke up on board. She held off at first solely because of how off the Force felt, and her need to recenter herself because of that fact. Then the memory swaps began and she was caught up in the chaos that came with all of... that.
Now, though, she's finally set aside the time to check the place out. There's a bounce in her step and a smile playing on her lips as she makes her way there. Stepping inside, she pauses and takes a second to simply drink it all in. The place is impressive. She'll give it that much.
Making her way further inside, she's about a dozen or so steps in when she hears a sound she most definitely isn't expecting. The series of beeps are familiar and she quickly turns and follows the sound. Rounding a corner, she finally spots the source and Jaina half-expects her heart to skip a beat, she's that surprised. A name spills from her lips without her even thinking about it, her tone a mixture of hope confusion.
"Artoo!"
Then she pauses, realizing two things in quick succession. The first is that there's a very, very unlikely chance that R2-D2 is going to be from a point in time where he'll recognize her. The second, which causes Jaina's eyes to widen slightly and suck in a sharp breath, is the fact that he isn't alone.

She's never been particularly adept or intuitive when it came to machinery, beyond the necessary that had come with learning how to communicate with her droid, and while she may be a fast learner- Anakin could never seem to teach her fast enough to make her truly useful here. But it was important to him that they spend time together, and so she tries.
After all, she prefers to be busy, and there isn't much use for a Senator on board. She's been working on a small section of wiring she's confident in, during a portion of the day she knows he won't be around. Occasionally, reinforcing lessons are easier when he isn't hovering. Anyone who knows her well might be shocked by her slightly dishevelled appearance, grease smeared high up a cheek bone. Still, there's grace in her motions when she pauses in her work to turn and look at the young woman who called for her droid. Her brow is arched in curiosity.
"You seem surprised." It's a simple observation, but one that doesn't make much sense to her. But then, she has actively avoided giving much thought to the unknowns of the future. Anything she has learned has only made her wish she hadn't.

"No one mentioned he was here." Not that she's surprised by that. Why would anyone think to tell her about the droid? It's not as though they realize she knows him. Well, until now. Her gaze slides from R2 back to the woman with the grease smudge on her cheek.
Jaina's obviously never met her grandparents. All of them - biological and adopted alike - died, in various, tragic ways, long before she was born. However she's fairly certain that the woman standing before her is, in fact, her mom's biological mother. It's the Force, of course, that's offering her that particular insight - nothing more than the feeling of familiarity that she can't explain but recognizes nevertheless.
But, just because Jaina thinks she knows the woman doesn't mean she really knows her. She isn't even sure of her name. And while the thought of meeting her is one that Jaina has been unsure about, now she can't help but wonder if maybe it's supposed to happen. The Force works in mysterious ways, after all. Maybe this is just one of them.
Of course, in order to meet the woman, she first has to actually speak and a singular sentence isn't going to cut it. So, after a heartbeat or two, she tacks on a curious, and as casual sounding as she can make it, "So I take it you work here?"
