CHARACTERS: Thor Odinson & Anyone

SUMMARY: Thor is exploring the ship and found his way to the gardens.

level one

[The cold, mechanical atmosphere of the ship has become somewhat oppressive. Thor is not used to living in such sterile surroundings.

He had heard that there were gardens on board, and decided to see for himself. However, when he finally locates and enters the gardens, the vast room he finds is not at all what he expected. There is plant life, but there is also the ever-present technology, keeping it all running.

He wanders down various pathways, gazing at the various plants and their attendant machines with obvious confusion, but also great interest.]

level three

[The overgrown wilderness of the upper levels is more what Thor was hoping to find. The hum of the ship is still there, but it's muffled by the greenery and plant life. He finds a small clearing and sits, leaning against a tree with his eyes closed.

Of course he never could remain still for long. Eventually he sits up straighter, taking Mjolnir into his hands. There has been a strangeness to the hammer ever since he arrived on board, and he wants to try calling its power, in a small, very controlled way.

After a few long moments of concentration, he succeeds in calling sparks to the hammer's head. He only holds them there for a moment before letting the gathered energy dissipate harmlessly. The frown on his face seems to indicate that the attempt was not as successful as he would have liked.]

[Thor nods in agreement.]

I have seen no sign of our captors, other than these odd memories of those who were on the ship before. I would discount those as being of the past, except it seems that things from the past of this ship do not always stay there.

We will need to be on our guard.

Ah, but you forget -- I am always on my guard. [He opens his arms wide, amusedly, as if to accentuate this.]

Of course you are.

[Well, seeing as there isn't much else they can do at the moment, Thor has something else on his mind.]

I have spoken with the other Thor, from the alternate world. I saw some of his memories, and he mine. It was an ...interesting conversation.

[He amused look turns into something a bit... well. Less amused. The idea of a second Thor on the ship was always something he wasn't sure what to make of.]

And what would two Thunderers reflect upon, after sharing memories? Did you compare the size of your hammers?

[Yes, he's being decidedly flippant about it -- but he does possess sincere interest on the matter, which he's sure Thor will share regardless.]

[He has to hide a smile at that comment.]

We did not, actually, but I'm certain mine is bigger.

[The moment of humor passes as he considers what the other Thor told him.]

In his world, Ragnarok has already happened. Everyone in Asgard died, only to be reborn again, as mortals.

[Loki's grin is only slightly lopsided, though he's silent for a moment as he considers the implications of what Ragnarok means to any version of Asgard.]

And did you ask what caused Ragnarok to come about? Does a Loki have a hand in it? [It was a strange thing to say, still feeling foreign on his tongue. But the idea of multiple universes is not so easily lost on Loki.] And reborn as mortals? I imagine that's little improvement.

He said that his Loki betrayed Asgard. Beyond that I did not ask for details.

[He didn't want to know. He'd rather not hear about any version of his brother being so beyond reason that he would destroy Asgard. Because that could never happen. Not with his Loki anyway. ~~(De-ni-al.)~~]

Apparently it was all part of Odin's plan, to have them become mortal and bring the stories of Asgard back to life on Midgard.

[He sounds extremely skeptical. That's kind of a crazy plan, even for Odin.]

[~~(Oh Thor.)~~ Loki, who betrayed Asgard and led it to its destruction. That does not sound too far from the stories surrounding Ragnarok to begin with. He shouldn't be surprised. And after all that has been said and done, he disturbingly isn't.

That last part is a bit strange, though, to say the least.]

And why care if the stories of Asgard have life on Midgard? Our Asgard oft does not think of Midgard unless it has to. This other Odin is just as unreasonable as yours.

[Yours. Not ours.]

[Thor just shrugs (and overlooks Loki's pointed reference to "his" Odin).]

Who can say what was in his mind? Their world is different from ours.

[For example:]

In that world, Thor has an older brother. Balder.

[And now Loki's face shifts into something reminiscent to "oh, ew."]

Another brother?

[Another shrug.]

Apparently?

[What would life have been like if Thor hadn't been the heir apparent? Of course their world ended up with Ragnarok, so things could have ended up worse.]

[Brow raise.] Of Odin and Frigga's blood?

Of Odin's blood. Beyond that I am not certain.

[The other Thor had also said that Loki was a true son of Odin. Perhaps he shouldn't mention that detail. Besides, it's always possible he misunderstood.]

[Good judgement call, brother.]

Hm.

[A moment of thought, then:] I do wonder how things may have been different then, with two brothers instead of one. Of course, nothing may have changed at all -- or perhaps too much may have changed, and instead we are spared having a Ragnarok because of it. Who is to say? There are too many variables that lie within a differing universe. It is likely headache enough that there is another you milling about anyway.

It was rather odd to be having a conversation with myself, as it were. So many things are different about him, yet so many are the same.

[He shakes his head. It gives him a headache to think about it too long.]

As you said, too many variables.

Perhaps one day I will have the pleasure of meeting this alternate you. I'm sure the conversation will be as stimulating as it is now.

[--he says as he lays back in the grass, yes.]

He seemed rather shocked when I told him you were on board.

[Thor raises an eyebrow as Loki makes himself comfortable. He's actually a little surprised Loki hasn't left yet. This is probably the longest conversation they've had in the last two years.]

Speaking of familiar faces, I saw a man on the network who looked like Fa... Odin.

Shocked... in a positive way? Or in a way that I should likely be wary around him?

[Though he's lying down, his demeanour changes immediately when Thor says the latter.]

-And did you speak to him?

I did not. It was obviously not him, and there did not seem much point in confusing the man.

[For one moment though, Thor had felt hope. He still half expects Odin to come riding out of the Bifrost to drag the two of them home.

He ponders Loki's first question for a moment before answering.]

I do not think you have anything to fear from the other Thor, although he may be reluctant to speak to you. I would venture a guess that his relationship with his Loki is just as...

[He struggles to find a word that could possibly describe their relationship before settling on one that is probably totally inadequate.]

Complicated.

[Complicated. A word more fitting than one might even realize, if they did not know the true nature of the relationship between any Loki and any Thor.

It's a very long pause before Loki says anything -- one might be under the impression that he would have fallen asleep if not for the fact that he suddenly says:]

I do wonder if it's fate. That things shall always be... 'complicated'.

[The silence is a little unnerving. Not because Loki is quiet though. (Although that can be unnerving. A quiet Loki is usually a plotting Loki.) Thor suddenly realizes that the normal sounds of life in a forest are absent. There are no birds or animals, not even the wind through the leaves. He hadn't noticed it before when he was busy with Mjolnir.

It's almost a relief when Loki finally speaks and breaks the unnatural silence.]

Between us? Or between every Loki and Thor in every world?

Between every Loki and Thor in every world. That is, assuming there are very many out there.

[He sits up, staring out into the gardens, looking at nothing in particular.]

You are no doubt aware of the stories that mortals tell of us? Some that are correct, and some that are absurd?

I have heard some of them, yes. Fandral was quite fond of telling them.

[There are a couple tales that come to mind immediately... Don't ask him about the horse. Don't ask him about the horse. Don't ask him about the horse...]

I would love to know how they heard the story of you dressing me as a bride in order to retrieve Mjolnir.

[He has his suspicions about that one.]

[~~you better not ask him about the horse, damn it~~

I would like to know as well. It remains a mystery.

[Nope. Not buying that look. Still suspicious, but he won't push it.]
