I'm not ready for the darkness
CHARACTERS: Re-l Mayer (
awakenings) and OPEN.
LOCATION: Various areas of the ship.
WARNINGS: None.
SUMMARY: Still sad and reeling from several losses this month, Re-l goes exploring to get things done and to get her mind off of things.
NOTES: Put locations in the subject lines, please!
Kristeva and Robert Capa had been missing - gone - for two weeks now. It ashamed her to admit that she still thought about the both of them rather often, her mind playing tricks on her and sometimes allowing her to think they were still there. Worse, that her mind went to Capa first. What Chase had said struck some sort of chord in her, something that made her feel both infuriated and flattered. Maybe they could have been something, could have seen each other as something more had they not been stuck on this godforsaken ship. If things had been normal, if they had met under any other circumstances...
It was a foolish wish. She cursed herself for even thinking about it. But time and time again, she wondered about it and then quickly shoved it all aside. She couldn't handle it right now.
Instead, she threw herself into any and all work possible. Exploration? Count her in. Going through names, numbers, and the few records they had about the people on board? Consider it done. She just wanted to stop thinking about herself. She wanted to crush the heart in her chest if it would stop herself from feeling that stabbing loneliness every now and again.
It worked, too. A few days of constant work and little sleep made it easier to forget how sad she really was. She just needed to keep at it.
Exploring helped. That's what she always did first. She'd go around the ship and check on people, make sure there were enough hands to go around. She'd visit the passenger's quarters once and then head out to continue what little work of a map they had. With Megamind's mutiny behind them, she was determined to be sure that no one else had any hiding holes in the ship. The last thing they needed were more problems and uprisings among the people they were supposed to be looking out for.
