Shakedown dreams walking in broad daylight

The ship had taken sixteen people. Led by Nathan Petrelli, they’d stormed the bridge, only to be confined behind the closing doors. Now the only way out was to somehow pry them open, blow them apart or technologically beckon them to release the mutineers.

It is far beyond my skill to say. For all that I want to help, it seems there is little for any of us to do.

[ She moves, placing her hand against the metal door. ]

I wonder how they fare, inside. For all that this frustrates us, it must be very much worse for them.

[klutziness]

[Rikku lets her forehead rest against the steel, making a frustrated sound.]

No kidding. And they're probably at each others throat. I've seen the list of who's in there. It isn't gonna be pretty when they get out.

[She can make herself say "if."]

I do not know them well enough to say that. The only one I have met before is Nathan Petrelli, and that was through the message that announced his plan.

You think their allegiance will not last?

[klutziness]

I think they're gonna go stir-crazy soon and it's gonna get messy in there.

[woodlander]

[ Tauriel winces. That's not a pleasant image. ]

Then we must hope that he is able to retain control, such as it can be.

Perhaps he can.

[klutziness]

No kidding. [A short, broody pause.] I'm Rikku, by the way. Engineering genius who can't figure out how to open a stupid set of doors.

[woodlander]

I am Tauriel.

And I am not...completely certain what engineering is. I am quite new to this place.

[klutziness]

We're the people who make sure this ship doesn't fall apart. At least, we're supposed to be.

[woodlander]

[ She glances again at the locked door. ]

But you did not do this. How far can your control reach?

[klutziness]

[She shrugs.]

With Smiley McCreeperton apparently being able to control things, there really isn't any telling.

[woodlander]

I am sorry. [ Clear confusion now. ] Who?

[klutziness]

Oh--Smiley. The red-text AI. Uh, artificial intelligence. Sometimes he leaves super cryptic notes on the network.

[woodlander]

I do not think that I have seen him. [ She hasn't. Not yet, anyway. ] Why do you call him that? I am not certain how intelligence could be both present and yet unreal.

[klutziness]

He's a part of the ship. Like, he doesn't have a body, but he's still sentient.

[woodlander]

Then why could this...intelligence [ she's going to struggle with imagining it as a he ] not open the door for those people?

[klutziness]

[Rikku shrugs, sighing.] That's a great question. The most probable answer is that he couldn't because he doesn't have complete control of the ship.

[woodlander]

And that is a certainty?

If that is the case, then who does, and how do we know for certain that is the case?

[klutziness]

We don't. It's basically the worst part.
