SUMMARY: Aidan and Derek decide to threaten Gold together, and Gold loses his patience.
[Gold doesn't like to consider that he may have settled into a routine on the ship, but there was little other way to look at it. He'd been stuck on this ship too long now to continue to cling to any delusion of escape being right around the corner, and yet there was still some stubborn, frustrated reluctance to acknowledge the simple everyday mundanity of heading down to the kitchen to get himself a cup of tea.
That's exactly what he's done, though, taking a break from another round of careful experiments. He could have magicked himself up a cup, but there's always been something soothing in going through the processes of cooking and similar with his hands, and lets him settle into coming up with a few more ways to approach the problem he'd been currently stumbling at.
He's still holding thoughts of that in mind as he walks back to his room, mug in one hand and cane in the other, a comfortable walk that shows no signs of any inclination to rush.]
slides into this.
well, that's what derek thinks, anyway. and aidan agreed, so here they are, a pair of problem solvers staking out mr gold's room. ]
We need to talk.
[ is what derek leads off with. he doesn't bother specifying what about. there's really only one subject either of them have ever contacted gold about. ]
no subject
Aidan, bristling and taut, is just a half step behind Derek trying and failing to look anything but completely defensive. But Josh had met Gold on Arima. This wasn't something that would just sit and clear up on its own.]
This doesn't have to be anything more than a friendly conversation. We'll get this figured out and leave you alone.

If this is about Mr. Levison, again, then I believe I've already said everything I have to say on the matter.
[His tone's still light, amicable, but there's something sharper already settling in his eyes.]
no subject
[ derek's instinct is to discount josh from the proceeding's entirely. he doesn't remember. and apparently, he doesn't need the hoodie anymore. so this is about breaking the deal, any way they can manage to do so. ]
You saw him on Arima.
[ aka you know he doesn't remember anything, right ]
no subject
He's not the same person who agreed to whatever deal you made.

I have an arrangement with Josh Levison. [Names. They're funny things like that.] As much as you two seem to enjoy trying to involve yourselves, you were never a part of it.
[And the continued attempts were becoming really annoying, something that starts to show quite clearly in Gold's expression, his speech, a lot of the air of amusement slipping away to leave something harsher, sharper.]
Now, I'd strongly advise you to get out of my way.

[ strangely enough, the slip in gold's tone pleases derek. he's always liked that, rattling someone enough to get a reaction other than polite dismissal. ]
He doesn't remember anything. And it stopped working. He doesn't owe you anything.
[ there's an air of cutting to the chase, derek giving up on trying to negotiate. ]
