ARAMIS: swashbuckling piece of shit. ([personal profile] savoy) wrote in [community profile] ataraxionlogs2014-06-08 02:03 pm

auditioning.

CHARACTERS: tyke and the three musketeers
LOCATION: sec's offices
WARNINGS: n/a?
SUMMARY: the musketeers would like to join sec

[ it's a little after the jump — after they've all shaken off the urge to search for ones that are not there, when rationality has reasserted itself over instinct. porthos had talked to a young lady by the name of veronica who'd offered information about security. they are all three in agreement that they cannot imagine not joining up; it is as close as they will come to still being musketeers aboard the ship.

besides, aramis for one cannot wait to try the more modern weaponry people had hinted existed. muskets and rifles that did not need reloading after one shot? it seemed too good to be real.

and so they seek out tyke, the head of security by the information offered to them, all three clad in leather, with coats and hats and swords fastened to their sides, athos in the lead. athos is the one to enter first, aramis and porthos flanking him on either side.

aramis makes a point to smile, particularly when he sees that tyke is not only a woman but an attractive one at that. wouldn't want to seem unfriendly or too threatening, now.

Yeah.

[The word comes out sounding a little stunned, because while she doesn't have as much pop culture knowledge as half of the ship might expect her to, she knows that the three musketeers just walked into the SEC offices and asked to sign up. But it doesn't hold her for long. She's had King Arthur signed up before - she can handle this.]

Yeah, still the case.

[Always the case. She looks back to the table to pick up another device, scroll through to an app she can type notes into.]

I'm gonna need to know your skills and experience, then run you through an assessment. Sound alright?

[ He waits patiently, hand on his sword and standing with one hip slightly cocked to the side. Her slight startlement he assumes is based more on their appearance - it wouldn't be the first time such a thing took place. ]

Of course. Between the three of us we have more than twenty years of combined military experience, and for the last several have been serving together in the King's Musketeers. Your weaponry is somewhat more advanced than that which we are more accustomed, but I know my friend Aramis is particularly keen on making up for the difference.

Not only Aramis. [There is an array of alarming/fun possibilities when it comes to party tricks and modern fire arms, depending on your perspective. Porthos quickly hems, remembering his place (someone took to the lack of formal etiquette on board quickly) but if Tyke glances at him she'll likely see the humourous glint in his eyes.]

[Musketeers that were keen on handling guns. Not really a surprise, though she's already looking between them, previous amazement turning to something more bemused. They might end up being a handful.

Just as long as they weren't a trigger-happy handful.]

I can get you all firearms training with Gunnery once you're signed up. You'll probably pick it up fast enough, it's just... quicker.

[Automatic loading, more efficient gun design. She makes a note to maybe warn Jax that she'd be sending the three musketeers down to see him, though she thinks she might just let him deal with that when it happens.]

You guys got any hand-to-hand skills, or are you just swords and guns?

[Not that those were anywhere near useless, but she liked making sure her team had all the skills they needed for any situation.]
aeipathos: that there seem to be no icons of you drunkenly accosting your wife in a thin baggy shirt (yes i too find it a tragedy)

[ He would have mentioned that bit about 'only' vs. 'having-totally-not-said-only', but luckily Porthos takes care of that little bit of semantics on his behalf. Granted, he's absolutely positive at least one of them is being ridiculous just out of his peripheral vision, but since when is that anything new?

They're mostly not trigger happy - don't they look respectable and trustworthy, Tyke?

He inclines his head just slightly in thanks for the potential firearms training - the quicker the better with that sort of expertise, and Athos isn't all that personally fond of handling things outside what he considers normal. All of this is already fairly outside of that as it is, anyway. ]

There is a fair amount of hand-to-hand combat inherent in swordfighting, but nothing formal. Porthos is the best of us in that particular skill, but what we know of that we have learned predominately through experience.

[Porthos nods when his name is mentioned, this time a fraction more solemn. It's true that that's his forte, in the same way that Aramis is a deft hand at firearms, and it's also true that it's nothing that it's an acquired more than taught form. But it's kept him alive throughout his childhood and up until now, so he has few complaints.

Other than that he says little, his moment of mischief having passed and content to let Athos do the talking, unless his opinion or the moment calls for another interjection.]

[She takes another moment, sizing them up with the information Athos has given, with the information she already knows - though there are things that shouldn't be relied on, she knows. The people that turned up on the ship didn't always match up with any stories that may have been about them.

But musketeers were good fighters, and that was the same impression she got from looking at them, the way they stood and the camaraderie between them. They could be the same as any soldier or marine. The outfits didn't matter.]

Alright. [She nods, looks down at the device in her hands and types something else in quickly.] Gonna need to take you down to the gym to run you through skills assessments, then I can sign you up.

[She tips the tablet in her hands, using it to gesture out of the room, an invitation for them to go straight into that if they were ready.]
aeipathos: i think it's DUMB, but i'm thinking about it regardless (i'm considering that suggestion)

[personal profile] aeipathos 2014-07-19 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
Of course.

[ Because he can parse that meaning well enough. It would be a poor leader indeed who simply took them at their word, even though a great deal of what they were asking, even he, acknowledged was effectively 'give us time to learn with your new stuff and if we don't shoot vital parts of each other we'll serve for Security'. Athos accompanies this acknowledgement with the type of bow he is most familiar with - that is, shallow, noble to noble, peer to peer - and moves in the direction indicated. Why wait? ]
