thirty-ninth jump;

CHARACTERS: Any and all.
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond.
WARNINGS: Maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: A feeling of deep dread greets you as you stumble out of the gravcouch, strong enough to hold you still for a long moment, searching your surroundings for the source of your wariness. Nothing becomes apparent, only your fellow passengers waking up. Eventually you gather the resolve to pick yourself up and start moving, the feeling fading slowly as you progress through routine.

New arrivals will find messages spraypainted across their lockers telling them not to follow their tattoo numbers, and instead to find a room on Floors 001-010.

----------------

YOU͘ ̨WAKE̢ ̧UP ́IN DA̛RKN̢E̕SS̶

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

YÓU̴ ̧ĄRE NOT҉ ̷ALǪNE҉

There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

[ Kieren watches as the man settles, keeping his eyes on him for a few cautious beats even after he speaks in agreement. When his focus shifts to Simon, it's an uncomfortable mirror. Thinly controlled violence, civility held together by a thread.

Or by him, more likely. It doesn't feel unlike being at the end of a gun barrel.

There's a reluctance to the way he eases back from Simon, and even as he tries to adopt a more casual stance, one hand remains on his shoulder. There's a quick glance between the two of them, then he makes a valiant (and incredibly awkward) attempt at segueing into something less hostile.
]

We're partially deceased. [ Simon doesn't like the term. Something gives him the impression this man won't find it charming, either, so after a pause to hedge his bets: ] Undead.

[He meanders over lackadaisically, like he's got all the time in the world and it isn't incredibly curious that she's suddenly decided on plan A for Alcohol.]

Hello yourself, sweetheart.

[He responds, a trace amount of amusement in his voice as he glances between her and the bartender. He settles himself on the seat beside her, and hails himself a tumbler of whiskey.

Don't worry. Your secret's safe with him, he knows the look of a desperate drinker and a rookie bartender. He knows it all too well.]

I see you decided to take my advice.

[ He'd lied to her. Back home, even if he's got no intention of doing so here. Long enough for Gold to get the upper hand, and that makes some of the guilt his. She withdraws sharply, and he flinches and lets her pull away. ]

My— [ He stalls out, voice weak. The confession had been difficult, but that'd been entirely on him. Now all he can think of is Emma's pain as she'd listed off the people she's lost, his foolish promise that he wouldn't be next.

He doesn't want to see that look on her face again. But as much as he'd rather look away, he doesn't, sympathetic eyes steady on hers.
]

He took my heart.

[ It doesn't feel like enough. There should be more — a plan, some sort of comfort. But all there is is the knowledge that Gold's still in control back in Storybrooke, and Killian's days are numbered. There's no further explanation that won't simply make it worse. ]

[...annnnd now he does feel like an asshole. His lips purse unhappily, because he's all too familiar with losing people.

Whether or not Marty's story was real, his pain certainly was. It's enough to convince Bellamy finally that he'd been telling the truth, or at least the truth as he knew it.

Although his lips turn upward, the expression on his face lacks the happiness that accompanies a smile. It's a gesture without any heart, but still.]

Cool? Maybe.

[He shrugs.]

Troublemakers? Absolutely.

[The smile gets a little more sincere at that.]

But they're... they're good people. I'll introduce you sometime. I think you and Jasper are gonna get along just fine.

[Since, you know, Marty's the only one of his people left. And if it sweetens the deal:]

He makes his own brand of moonshine.

[He releases her from the embrace immediately, hands dropping away from his side, most of the positivity in his expression gone. Reunion over, he's back to grim distaste over this whole affair, back to confusion, disorientation, and fear. He may be surrounded by his people from the ground, and they may seem comfortable in their surroundings, but he sure as hell isn't.

Especially not with Clarke's opening statement; it has his brow furrowing and chin cocking to one side, visibly drawing away from her.]

Back at the- Clarke, what are you talking about?

[They weren't at the dropship the last time he saw her. Then again, the last time he saw Finn, the boy was dying on a post. He still has a few questions about that, by the way, but considering the man himself and Raven had both been hauled away to the ship's prison, those questions had been put on hold.

They surge back up again, adding to his suddenly mounting frustration.]

How- where are we? How is Finn- how did he survive? What the hell is going on here, Clarke?

[Give him a few seconds to shoot wide-eyed disbelieving glances between this kid and that bear. He's almost not sure which is the stranger sight to see, the five year old offering him a hand or the panda bear staring at him blankly.

Wait, yes he is. The fucking panda bear.

The waving bear.

Sl...owly he reaches a hand out and accepts the help, but he mostly relies on his free hand to push himself upward with a palm on the ground. A lot of that five-year-old strength goes unused.]

...How- how did-

[He asks, stops himself, shakes his head.]

Did you train that bear?

[Because seriously, what?]

[ Much like last time, John's feeling sluggish. Unlike last time, he's considerably more disoriented. He's made his way to the lockers but his mind's been thus far elsewhere, meaning he's missing pieces and missing steps.

When she speaks, he's slow to respond.
]

Hm? Yeah... [ It's unconvincing at best, probably because he's half-vacant and uncertain of the answer in his own right. ] Yes, yes. Sorry.

[ Well, that was shockingly easy. Both finding her brother and explaining the other thing, although it occurs to Fitz after she asks that he hasn't actually explained anything at all. His brow furrows, bemused. ]

... yes. [ Slowly and very slightly suspicious. Except he's capable of better than that, so after a pause to regain his focus: ]

It's... [ And he's got these words just fine, he just doesn't particularly like them. There's more of a grim determination to his voice than confidence when he continues, and he does his best to make it dismissive, a non-issue. ] Hypoxic brain damage.

[ Mack would probably get on his case for saying 'damage' instead of 'injury', but Mack isn't here. Either way, he's eager to change the subject. ] Are you new?

[He's still soaked to the bone, hair plastered to his head and dripping a little, and there's no denying the way he startles when a hand grabs onto his arm. The sheer relief on seeing the familiar face attached to that hand, though, surges through him even more visibly.]

O.

[He says, surging forward to wrap an arm around her shoulders. Just for a second, because he knows they already had their run-in during the Raven/Finn disaster. That wasn't much of a greeting, though, considering they were both busy prying those two apart.

Hug accomplished, his arm drops away again, mouth pressed into a grim line.]

I was trying to make sure they didn't plan on shoving Raven out of an airlock. Apparently they don't do that here.

[That's what they say, at least. So. Good news all around.]

[Hmm? Oh!]

No, I didn't need to! He's really smart.

[Also that panda bear is wearing a leather jump suit, or something. Hoi Hoi perks and looks at Bellamy, and I swear, Bellamy, his eyes are practically shining with the desire to flop over on you and embrace you lovingly. This bear is just really weird like that. But any possibility of psychologically scarring you further is halted when Takeshi side-steps to keep the bear separated from the man. He didn't want Hoi Hoi getting stabbed, even if the suit protects from little things like that.]

[ in a sense, that's the answer she wanted to hear. that he doesn't want this, what he's becoming, what he's done. but there's something about it that rings unsatisfying in a deep and fundamental way. like some part of her wanted him to stand behind his choices - to tell her it's worth it. maybe that way he didn't have to die for something so completely idiotic.

she exhales sharply through her nose, her own eyes filled with a furious sort of moisture as she stares him down for a long second. then there's tugging at her shoulder (honestly, she's surprised it didn't come sooner), and she's suddenly aware that she's running out of time to make this count. raven throws back her elbow to shrug off the third party, not even processing quite who it is just yet, then punches finn one more time with a choked sound not quite like a shout or a sob but somewhere in between.
]

[That bear keeps giving him the I want to eat your face eyes, and Bellamy can't help but glare warily back. You just keep your distance, bear, he sWEARS TO GOD.

And then the kid steps between them, which does absolutely nothing to block Bellamy's vision of the thing since Bellamy's probably three times this kid's heigh, but his eyes flick down just the same.

Turns out it's impossible for Bellamy Blake to be an asshole to a child. He just physically can't do it, so after a moment of pursed lips, he squats down a little to get more on the kid's level.]

Are you sure you should be alone with a wild animal that big? You know, if that thing decided to turn on you, he could probably really hurt you.

[It's a legitimate concern he feels he has to address, because

that's a wild fucking animal and this is a five year old.]

No one gets floated, here. [ she repeats, calm and firm — and then gives him a moment to process that because she has to breathe through a wave of nausea, brows knitted and shoulders hunching. she straightens up again soon after, lips downturned as though she's swallowed something bitter. (close enough.)

only then does she elaborate:
] People are brought here from different worlds and universes. No one knows how. There is Security, but people aren't floated but put in the brig if it's deemed necessary.

[He flusters a bit, mostly in the way he usually does when someone is trying to be a Bro. Even though he's spent so much time making so many friends, it was still not so long ago, before Kaze and Heather and Netherlands, that someone around Bellamy's height had been a great source of misery for him. He was stronger now, though, and Dad taught him he was strong. Even if he wasn't then, he is now.

He looks back at Hoi Hoi.]

[He sees her pause, see her breathe in slowly, and some of his more aggressive ire calms for a second out of sheer human sympathy. He feels it, too- that sickness, that nausea, but he's been hungry for long enough that his stomach doesn't have quite as much to process.

He accepts her initial explanation because he's heard it from a few other people, too. Clarke mainly, and she happens to be his most reliable source. He might be having a hard time swallowing it, but he tentatively belieaves there are other universes. He also believes Raven and Finn are just being held, not being floated- it's a serious relief, too- but psychic?

There's a skeptical beat, and he slowly closes his locker. Turns to face her a little more directly, and crosses his arms.]

If you're psychic, what am I thinking right now?

[Which is the oldest cliche in the book, but apparently they don't write that book wher Bellamy's from.

As soon as he asks the question, his mind flies to trees. An entire forrest full of them, the trees that surrounded their camp back on the ground.]

[He grins though, beams really, because Marty just happens to be That Guy with the big-ass grin when he's not miserable in space, and all. It's how he copes, alright.] His stuff can't be any worse than the space booze this place flings around. Careful though, because some of the shit in the bar will knock you flat on your ass and you'll never see it coming.

she's been through worse, anyway. it'll pass.

but their people being here has raised problems already, namely raven and finn getting brigged, and it's a relief at least to hear that they don't float people on this ship. not that she thought they'd get floated for a punch up, but then again the Ark hadn't exactly been reasonable with their handling of petty crimes, and so far the Tranquility isn't shaping up to be all that much better.

( It's at the lockers that Elena runs into Caroline - or sneaks up to, if you wanted to be accurate. She's a little disorientated from her extended stay in the pod, and something feels a little weird - like when you're trying to remember a dream but it's slipping away - but other than that she feels great.

And she doesn't think that anything is different. She was sad when she arrived over losing Bonnie, and that still hurts now, but maybe this month they can have a fresher outlook on things? Maybe see what people know here about death and find ways to get Bonnie back.

Regardless of that she is really glad to see Caroline, and if Caroline had been the one stuck in the pod for a month she would have gone crazy worrying about her - so she knows it had to have been worse for Caroline.

Whilst she's still at her locker, pulling clothes from it, Elena walks up behind her, trying to be as quiet as possible. Once she's there Elena reaches around her, holding her hands in front of her eyes )

( Look who's back. Back from her pod. Back and a bit happier than she'd ever been before but she's awake and not in a coma anymore, wasn't that a brilliant reason to be happy?

It is until you come across a friend who doesn't look so happy, and whilst Elena would love to do absolutely everything she could to cheer her up she goes with stamping down just a little of her (excessive) cheer. She had to find out what was wrong first, and then she could distract her or cheer her up )
