CHARACTERS: Ellis and Anne Cunningham
LOCATION: Anne's house and beyond
WARNINGS: Most likely profanity
SUMMARY: Just hangin' out
NOTES: Ellis considers everyone his best friend no matter what wtf
Ellis's new room with Firo is unbelievably close to Anne's. In fact, they're only two rooms away. That said, the walk over to Anne's room is a short one. When he gets there, he knocks on the door loud enough for her to hear if she's in the other room. They don't have plans to hang out today, but it's been too long as far as Ellis is concerned, and it's not like she'll be busy. Adjusting his hat, he waits for her to answer the door.

Despite how tired and grumpy she feels, it's still good to see Ellis. A smile breaks over her face despite her tired eyes.
"Hey," is the only thing she says, because with Ellis, it's usually best to let him do most of the talking.

"That sounds good. You're right; it's been a while. Let me just grab my shoes."

"Where's Murphy?" He asks, filling the silence as she hunts for her shoes.

"Probably off doing some stocking work. I remember him mentioning something about it this morning." Shoes on now, she straightens up. "So. What did you have in mind?"

He gives her a slightly inquisitive look. Does she?

"We could always go to the Holodecks," she says after a while. "Spend some time 'at the beach' or something like that."

"There's always somethin' good to be said for everything bad. Sometimes ya gotta go through hell an' high water to find it but, hell, nothin's ever just pure bad." He thinks for a moment on his own words. "Back home, there was all that apocalypse shit, ya know. But I met some great people at the evac station. Some o' the greatest ones I ever knew. Same goes for this place. Ya get to meet people you'd never o' known otherwise. That's the good that happens. An' sometimes that's what counts."

"You're right," she says finally, giving him a slight nudge with her elbow. When she first came here, Anne was an angry, negative, harsh person who hated pretty much everyone around her, and Ellis has had quite a hand in changing that. If she were much for sentimentality, she would probably tell him. But being who she is, she figures just spending time with him is enough. "Thanks." It's a simple reply, but she's smiling now and that speaks plenty.
"Think we should bring some booze with us to the holodecks?" she asks after a moment of silent walking. "Make it a party?"

"I can't even remember the last time where was something even remotely close to a party here," she replies to that, changing course for the bar. "Besides weddings, anyway."

It's not exactly a straight answer, but it's getting there. Ellis isn't really doing anything to make her happy, he's just reminding her of the things that she could be happy about.

Anne has certainly become a lot less negative since they first met, but she's still far from happy go lucky. But that's just in her nature, not something that can be helped.
