( can you feeeeeel the loooove tonight )
CHARACTERS: Octavia Blake and the dating crew
LOCATION: A BAR ON A...FLOOR idk
WARNINGS: probably a hell of a lot of grumpiness lbr there's only like one volunteer
SUMMARY: Speed dating, basically, with more duplicity
NOTES: Mingle log kids, go nuts. Use the headers or create your own or do what you like
[ so octavia has totally repurposed the bar for a round of speed dating, or at least as close as she can manage given that she a) did this last minute and b) doesn't know what speed dating is. still, it's not a hard concept, and there's name badges on a table and a hell of a lot of booze already up on the bartop.
there's some music playing in the background, but given that she's hardly an expert it's just as likely to be really out of place as it is romantic. feel free to use that as a talking point. there's coffee too because she doesn't really know how to cook, and a bunch of ready to eat stuff scavenged from the kitchen nearest the bar. all in all, it's...pretty budget-- BUT SHE TRIED
People volunteering their friends will obviously be told the truth about the nature of the evening, but anyone not friends with Octavia can opt to have received an anon message stating something like " MEET + GREET ON THE xTH FLOOR BAR, PLEASE BRING YOURSELF AND ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR APPROPRIATE ATMOSPHERE. THANKS "
although if you'd prefer their volunteer tricks them into arriving, that is of course also an option. ]

[ He rubs his shoulder with his free hand, as if the thwaping hurt. It didn't. He's vaguely achey in general, of course, but if he weren't trying to make Kate feel sorry for him and/or sorry for bringing him here, he would barely notice it and certainly not draw any attention to it. (Maybe he won't burn that sweatshirt. Maybe he'll permanently affix it to the door. What then.)
The girls are very pretty, though. ]
I'd feel better if everyone had ages on their name tags. What's the age of consent in space, do you think?

Whatever it is in the younger person's world, I guess? Average of the two? Whoever's is higher? [ Kate considered the question for a moment before answering, and her head tilts a little further now as she keeps on thinking about it. ] I think Octavia probably knows most people's ages, we had to put it in the profile, or you could always ask. I'd guess everyone is at least 18.
pardon the legalese I forget how normal people talk
That's good. Not creepy. Right? [ Let's pretend he isn't going to marry someone twelve years younger than him. At least he'll make her insist. ] But it should probably be higher for—inherently dangerous activities. [ He bares his teeth to illustrate. Cheerfully, though. Five signs to identify a werewolf, number four: a cavalier sense of humour about it, until it actually matters. ] Twenty-one.
i tried to work in assuming the risk but couldn't quite
[ She pauses from the sip she was about to take and clarifies with a finger lifted off the glass to forestall snickering. Her own, maybe, if not his. ] With inherently dangerous activities. Of some sort, I don't think specifics are necessarily... necessary.
it's the thought that counts
We'll see, [ he says, with a smile and no trace of scepticism, but that's still Lupinese for I'm not even going to try. And here's an unsubtle subject change: ] You should have invited Johanna. I bet she'd love this sort of thing.
[ He doesn't actually know anything about her except axe and murder, probably. ]

You clearly haven't actually met her. She would either hate every second of this or else she'd end up getting naked and climbing on someone right here. [ She lifts her glass like she's going to drink and then stops and swings it out and back again in gesture as she adds. ] Possibly both, I don't know why I say that like they're mutually exclusive.
