forty-third jump;

CHARACTERS: Any and all.
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond.
WARNINGS: Maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: As you emerge from the grav couches following the jump, the chill of the medical bay pales in comparison to the hollow feeling that settles deep within your chest. Grim and foreboding, the grip of isolation spreads through you like a gnawing void, as though you've been left behind. That nagging sensation of neglect that comes from someone turning their back on you only worsens as you move through your routines, leaving you feeling distant, disoriented, and unwanted.

New arrivals will find messages spray-painted in red across their lockers telling them not to follow their tattoo numbers, and instead to find a room on Floors 001-010.

YOU͘ ̨WAKE̢ ̧UP ́IN DA̛RKN̢E̕SS̶

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

YÓU̴ ̧ĄRE NOT҉ ̷ALǪNE҉

There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

Serah turns to the voice, a look of distrust in her eyes as she watches the woman. Like last time, the people here were all very kind....but, if she was in the dream world, that would mean they were fake, and wanted to keep her here. However, Serah knew she couldn't act too out of line, since the figments also got aggressive, and the world could break down if she tries too hard. So she gives the woman a faked smile, one that could be seen as stressed while shaking her head.

"Oh, I must've just hit my head. I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but...where are we?"
blackmagus: (♒ yeah okay sure)

She hasn't, of course, but Fortescue doesn't bother to correct her. However she wants to deal with the situation, really. Different people want different things. Eventually, she'll have to confront the truth. For now, Fortescue can present it as gently as possible.

"You're on board the Tranquility. You've... sort of been kidnapped. All of us have."

That's an easier way to look at it, at least...

sorry for the wait!

"Kidnapped?" Serah's eyes go wide. This made no sense. If it was her dream world, then shouldn't it be happier? Where was Lightning, or Snow? Anyone she knew or cared about?

"Why?"
blackmagus: (♒ serious)

"I'll be honest, we're not really certain."

Fortescue offers an apologetic smile. But she doesn't blame Serah's reaction at all. In fact, reactions tend to run wide in those who wake up for the first time. It's a lot to take in, as she's going to discover.

"All we know is that we're on board a ship, in space, and there's a lot going on. But we're all in this together," she adds. "So if you ever need any help, we generally help each other out."

Sure, there are a few sour grapes running around. But for the most part, the passengers of the ship do try to help.
cantfixtime: (naturally you're the only one)

"Thank you.....I never caught your name." Serah extends her hand. "Serah Farron." she offers a small smile, not completely sure what she wants to believe about this time period and the ship itself, but....she can at least afford to be nice. It wasn't a dream, but it might be a different timeline. One where there's ships in space......she's not sure how that's possible, but she'd find out.

"If you don't mind, I have a few questions."
blackmagus: (♒ hello there)

She shakes the young woman's hand, smiling back. "Fortescue. It's lovely to meet you, Serah."

For all that they're stuck on a space ship, in space. But she's met some very great people on board the Tranquility, and, despite everything that's happened, she's glad for the opportunity to have done so. Mostly.

"I can't say we know everything you're wondering, but if we do have answers, I'll do my best to answer them."
cantfixtime: (you rest inside my mind)

"Likewise." Serah crossed her arms, not in a standoffish way. The raised her hand close to her face, tapping her cheek as she thinks before pointing, finally coming up with a good way to word what she knows most people will fail to find normal.

"So, has anything on the ship stood out to you at all? Anything weird, I mean."
