CHARACTERS: Carl Grimes + OPEN TO ALL
LOCATION: Different places around the ship.
WARNINGS: None.
SUMMARY: June catch-all where Carl adopts Lil' Gumshoe shortly after the jump and learns what it takes to be responsible for a dog all throughout the month.
[ Truth be told, Carl was still a little surprised to have found Lil' Gumshoe roaming by herself without Chuck or her fellow animal pals Digby and Pigby -- but after an honest effort to locate and contact the dog's owner came to no avail, the only conclusion he could come to was that the sweet-natured pie baker had gone home. That meant the dog was needing someone else to take her in now.
And childishly, a part of him felt attached enough to want the dog in his care... So, that's how he ended up taking on the responsibilities.
However, what he didn't expect was the trouble that came with walking a dog. Gumshoe was fairly outgoing and enthusiastic and curious all at once so more often than not she would pull him along when they were in the halls or oxygen garden and he could be caught running to keep up or letting her go and calling out to try to get her to return.
Sometimes even, almost as if it were a scene from a movie, his favorite sheriff's hat would fly off in the process and he'd have to choose which one to retrieve first.
But fortunately, not all the time.
On the occasion, the two of them can also be found in their down time. Most of the time in the kitchens where Carl would fix something simple for the both of them to eat from the available stock of human, yes, human food or in gunnery helping out as usual and being unwitting mascots.
Other times, it's possible to find him playing cards or reading in the library with the dog resting near by.
(Anyway, find him and his newly adopted dog in any above scenario you like, or create your own adventure, or ping me at
Naonith with your ideas and I'll start.) ]

I almost did, way back in the day. But we have different Families now--completely different, actually.
[The difference between Mafia and Camorra mostly comes down to history and origins, but don't try telling Firo that.]
We work in the same businesses, though, yeah. I run a casino.

So instead of asking more questions to work out all the thoughts he has - why would anyone not stick with their friends? how was a gang family? - Carl goes quiet, choosing not to dig any deeper with what could be considered rude questions, and continue to walk in silence.
But for only a moment.
After all, he understood a little about different people becoming family under certain circumstances - Daryl who was on the ship now was family like that - and then again, he couldn't stay quiet when the casino comment caught his interest.]
So you can play cards?
[If you ask him, it was the perfect change of subject since he had playing cards. Gang things is weird to talk about anyway.]

He smiles at the question--here's another topic he loves.]
Sure. Any game there is out there, it's offered at my place.
[And he's made himself something of an expert on it. A casino manager for the Martillos couldn't be anything less and Firo prided himself on honoring the Family by doing a good job.]
Do you?

Every game. [He says, not much as a question but as him repeating back in thought, before continuing,] I, um... yeah. I can play Go fish and a few other games.
[Basically kids games, nothing like poker.]

Every game.
[He nods at Go Fish, not about to knock the basics. After all, his card sharp adopted brothers play any game, including Old Maid.
All the same, he can hope a bit...]
Other games like... Blackjack or somethin'?

[More like it. But that's at best since it's pretty recent that he learned it from the other teens in Alexandria. Beyond that all he knows are the kidder card games taught to him when he was eight, and it's pretty self-explanatory none of that is actually gambling related.]
Sorry about that html!
Well, if you ever want a game sometime, I'd be good for it. So long as you don't try to cheat, we'll be fine.
[He's joking. It wouldn't be very funny if people here knew what he's done to cheaters, but he thinks it's funny and they don't know.]
no problem
[Joke or no joke, he means it! All as matter of fact and insistently EVEN with a bit of amusement over his expression because he gets it's a joke.]
But I have cards so we can play whenever.
Thanks!
[He smiles back.]
Oh, yeah? They're pretty rare out here--where'd you get 'em, huh?
no subject
They were in my locker.

[He shakes his head, almost laughing at a memory.]
You know, one a' my first jumps here, the ship gave me a ton a' poker chips from my Family's casino... and then no cards. The thing's got a stupid sense a' humor sometimes.
