& i'll send it up to see

CHARACTERS: Eponine, Laura and Selina, also you.
LOCATION: All around the place.
WARNINGS: tbd
SUMMARY: catch-all for July!
NOTES: Write your own starter, plurk me or PM me for one, whatever floats your boat! This is super bare-bones to begin with as I assume more will come later.

For the first part of the month, before the jump, Eponine can be found laid up in the med bay, a result of her being, well, herself. Later on, she'll be focusing on trying not to manifest bottles of wine at every opportunity. It takes a lot of work to not be drinking all the time. Not to mention, there's a lot of trying to sort her relationship with Combeferre out. Happy anniversary?

Laura, for her part, can be mostly found in comms working. When she's not there, she's taken to jogging again to keep her health up. Additionally, she's planning a dinner for all of her lovely Colonials. It's about time they had some sort of celebration, don't you think?

As for Selina? She's getting into trouble, figuring out all she can about the Gotham that most people here seem to be familiar with, and oh, right, at target practice. Thanks for the gun, Dean. You are extremely missed.

Simple enough instructions. There is something more Lee is expecting as he comes to stand beside Laura. Extra items to put on the table, perhaps. Something properly a chore rather than reading off a label so when he gets started, it's pretty clear he's a bit confused by her request.

Lee reads off the label, starting with the brand name and proof before rattling off the location of the distillery. The label doesn't actually say Earth so he's left as confused as when he started until Laura is kind enough to illuminate the bottle's inherent worth. It's not just some random planet from another place or time. It's the planet. There's a low whistle as Lee carefully turns the bottle over in his hands, examining it a second time with extra attentions.

"My father told me there are many here from Earth. Possibly our own, some time far in the future." Or far in the past, though Lee knows not of the burnt out First Earth Galactica would find in due time back home. "It's heartening."

Though he says it quietly, there's a deep sincerity in his voice. That simple bottle holds such promise - optimism for the future of the refugees of the Twelve Colonies. The significance does not escape Lee and a softer smile settles into his expression.

"I can't say this dinner will compare to what I missed at your wedding but I am grateful I can share a piece of that day now." The bottle is held as though it's most precious when Lee moves to set it on the table. "How is it best served? On the rocks? Straight up?"

Laura beams proudly. "When I first arrived here, a man I became quite close with-" okay they had dated, "-showed me what his Earth looked like. New York City." The name held reverence. "And gifted me that bottle." She'll leave out the part where after he left, she'd grabbed the other bottles he'd had. Whoops.

"I try to only take it out for special occasions." Weddings. When she was mourning Nathan's absence leading to a terrible fight with Bill. "And this is certainly one of them." She's pleasant and light, grabbing two lowball glasses from the counter and placing them between herself and Lee. "I've always had it straight up." She looked from the glasses to Lee.

"What do you say, Captain Apollo?" It still sounded great. Laura reached for the bottle, starting to undo the top and pour. When the President pours you a drink of Earth Whiskey, you take it, Lee. Especially if the President is now your step-mom.

"Did he have photos or maps? Or was it something he recreated here to give you the idea?" Lee can't help his questions. A future is possible, something that had become a waning hope in the fleet. In his heart, Lee did believe his father and Laura were their best chance for survival. What was less certain was how that survival would actually play out. This news though, it invigorated him. "If only I could go back to Galactica. Tell them to hold on to hope a little longer."

It's not a bitter sentiment. Bittersweet, perhaps, but meant to be something born of good intentions. Lee wasn't a beacon of optimism manifested, rather a paragon of endurance. Laura filled the role of symbolism, of hope and promise personified and she filled it well. Still, concrete evidence of Earth and it's rich, varied cultures was something most Colonials didn't even dare dream of these days.

Despite the heavy way his words can be interpreted, Lee is and remains light in mood. There is so much worth toasting.

"I always knew I liked you," he laughs, taking his straight up as offered. "I say, to Earth past, to Earth future, and to all the journeys those seeking it shall travel. So say we all."

"It was..." How to explain it. "A hologram. He'd put it together, he showed me the top of the Rockefeller Center, Long Island, New Jersey... Of course, none of this means anything to either of us, but imagine- buildings as tall as they were on Caprica City, a bustling metropolis. It was beautiful, Lee." She'd cried like a child when she saw it. "I believe he left the holos, if you were interested..." Play tourist on an Earth they had yet to visit.

That had yet to exist.

She sighed. "If only." There were many things she'd bring back to Galactica, if she could, now that she knew. But this place was, all things considered, one hell of a vacation.

She raises her glass to clink against his. "Never let it be said that Adamas have terrible taste," she said with a roguish grin. She could be just as silly as the next person, just as young despite her age. Bill always brought that out in her, as had Kara. May she rest in peace.

"So say we all," she echoed, before taking a sip of the whiskey, keeping her eyes on Lee to see what he thought.
