CHARACTERS: sylar (
evolved) & peter (
askedtobe)
LOCATION: the oxygen gardens.
WARNINGS: none.
SUMMARY: peter has all the family issues and sylar ... helps by turning him against nathan. yup.
NOTES: backdated to right after this.
[ After Nathan's announcement over the network and the aftermath that followed, Sylar figures that Peter is either hiding out in his room, or sulking quietly somewhere else -- seeing as the ship lacks rooftops, he has few options, so his first guess would be the medbay or the oxygen gardens. He'd do a mental eenie meenie, but instead he decides to simply check the former first.
He has no luck there, finding only people still injured from whatever horrors they had to endure when the fear gas was released, so his next destination becomes the gardens. It's a large place, but it doesn't take particularly long for him to locate Peter; he lets him hear his footsteps as he approaches, because he's not there to sneak up on him. He is, believe it or not, there to just talk - because he thinks the other man might appreciate a bit of conversation after his brother proceeded to stab him in the back once more.
Call it thoughtfulness, if you wish, but it's more a your misery caught my interest situation. ]
I'm not surprised I'd find you here.

Peter supposed part of it had to do with disliking being called crazy, but it was that Nathan did it to make himself seem better. It was what everyone did. Nathan had never needed help in that category and feeling like a stepping stool just made Peter feel even less important. When that's all it had ever been about -- wanting to be something.
At the sound of footsteps, Peter jerks his attention upwards, not exactly wanting to have an audience to his brooding. Seated near one of the clusters of plants on the floor, Peter's quick to push himself to his feet once he sees who is company actually is, not exactly needing to feel any smaller than he already does. ]

[ In the end, they desire the same thing in Sylar's eyes, but perhaps for different reasons. He took a shortcut, claimed what he sought for instead of waiting for his chance or for it to fall in his lap -- it's all about how far you're willing to go, what you're willing to sacrifice to get what you want. It's always simpler than Peter makes it out to be.
He's not surprised that Nathan would once again leave Peter behind in the dirt for his own personal gain, and while Sylar's never particularly wanted siblings (rivalry, favoritism, having to share the spotlight and possibly being left in the shadow of a brother or sister) he had wanted a family -- did before he learned that the only thing they give you and leave you with is a broken heart and a knife in the back. It's a lesson the other man never seems to learn, however, seeing as he's constantly screwed over by his mother, father and brother.
He rises to his feet, and Sylar doesn't study him for longer than a few seconds before he's sitting down, an invitation of sorts for Peter to take his seat again. ]
After that little showdown with your brother, I figured you'd either be working, or hiding somewhere else.

It was infuriating, all of it was. Having Nathan turn on him here just like he'd done back home, in the middle of turning on him there as well. No matter where they were, Nathan apparently enjoyed cutting him to pieces. Peter couldn't truly explain to anyone who wasn't from home how much it hurt because they hadn't been there the first time. Or the second. Or the third, or any of the times his family had used him as a stepping stool towards something greater. While Peter had wondered his entire life if it would ever be his turn to be something, Nathan had even taken that opportunity and thrown it in his face.
Finally glancing over and up towards Sylar, Peter stays silent for a few seconds after the other man's done speaking before he glances back away, not entirely sure why he's willingly speaking about this with him. ]
You know it's hard to earn any kind of credibility when your brother tells everyone you're insane. I don't even know how I managed to keep a job at home.
