Bang, bang, he shot me down
CHARACTERS: Kurt Hummel and John Connor
LOCATION: Oxygen Garden
WARNINGS: Baby-faced kid learning to fire a murder weapon. Yup.
SUMMARY: John teaches Kurt how to defend himself.
[He isn't so sure about this. Guns seem so simple on television, in movies--but in real life? They're terrifying, foreign, those things you heard about in the news but would never actually hold in real life, of course not-- But then again, Kurt never expected to be involved in any of this, not in a million years.
Finn or Puck would probably think this was so cool, he thinks ironically, and smiles for just a moment until he enters the Oxygen Garden. Then he just feels terribly nervous--frightened more like--and tries to keep it hidden as he waits for John to arrive.]

John makes his way into the Oxygen Garden, on his usual level of alertness - extreme, but it's not altogether obvious. He spots Kurt right away and makes his way towards the other teenager. Although John knows that a lot of people don't know how to fight, it's not something he comes across often in his world.]
Hey.
[He has his arms crossed over his chest for a moment]
Are you nervous?
no subject
Well, I-- A bit. But I'd still eager to begin. Shall we?
no subject
no subject
Um-- No. Do squirt guns count?
no subject
[He takes his gun - it's a small caliber handgun, the safety is on]
Here. First thing's first.
[He hands it over to Kurt.]
no subject
Thank you.
no subject
[He just watches this]
The safety's on. You can't hurt anyone.
no subject
Could we just-- Can we do this quickly? I just want it--done.
no subject
[John carefully puts his arms around Kurt - no funny business, he just moves so that Kurt is in a firing position]
We're not going to fire it, because I don't have a lot of ammo, but I'm going to show you the basics, okay? So if you ever are in a situation, you could, conceivably, fire this gun or one similar.
[He presses Kurt's hands together, his own around them. His hands are covered in calluses. With that he shows him how to undo the safety.]
That's the safety. You feel the switch?
no subject
Y-yes. I feel it. [His hands are shaking a little. It's crazy-- When faced with one of those horrible monsters, his mind had just gone on autopilot, and he'd reacted on reflex alone. This is removing all of the adrenaline and basic survival instinct, and replacing it with the knowledge that this is a gun and it kills people. I am holding something that kills people.
It could also save him though, and Blaine, and Quinn. He bites his lip, determined.] So it works now? It can fire now?
no subject
All right. So you line it up. Don't hold it sideways because it will ruin your shot. Always use both hands to hold on, because there's a recoil and it'll help you.
[He pauses]
If it jams don't ever toss it, or the magazine. You might see that in movies but that's not what you do, instead you clear it, like this.
[And a quick demonstration of what do to, although John doesn't, because - low on ammo, here]
If you need to change the clip, this is how.
[John moves Kurt's fingers, so he can slide the clip out, and then shows him how to push it back in]
You got it?
no subject
Yeah. Yes. Got it.
[He has tears in his eyes and he doesn't know why. He blinks them back, determined not to let them show.]
So I... How do I aim properly? And what will it--feel like when I shoot?
no subject
Align your sight with the barrel. Just over the top? That's your aim.
[Then he moves away, taking the gun with him, safety back on]
It feels like a full body jolt. Even a small handgun has a good kick to it. But I don't think that's what you want to know.
no subject
[He chews on his lip a little, wringing his hands.]
Do you happen to know where I can get one? If I can't arm myself, then this is all for naught.
no subject
[He shrugs. He was going to say that most people who ask that question really want to know what it feels like to kill someone, but John doesn't mind not saying it.]
You want to learn to protect your boyfriend, don't you?
no subject
Um, y-yes. Yes. I do.
And myself as well, I suppose.
no subject
no subject
That would make sense. I'm just--you know. I'm not very strong. Blaine is a boxer; he's better at that than I am.
no subject
My mom weighs about 110 pounds and she can break a man's face with her elbows. It's about how you use your weight, not how much muscle you have.
[He considers it]
I could show you that, too.
no subject
Um, sure. I don't want to hit you, though. And, ah, vice versa.
no subject
That's up to you.
