SILENT HIL PLOT: FOG EDITION

CHARACTERS: ALL OF YOU SICK-MINDED MOTHERFUCKERS.
LOCATION: THE TRANQUILITY: FOG-WORLD EDITION.
WARNINGS: SURE IS FOGGY HERE, HUH?
(Also, you know. Horror. In space. With Silent Hill. That's always a recipe for Friendship Is Magic, right?)
SUMMARY: WELL, YOU'RE PROBABLY JUST WANDERIN' AROUND
WHEN SOMETHING DRAWS YOUR ATTENTION,
YOU CRASH INTO THE GROUND AND THEN YOU WAKE UP
IN A PARALLEL DIMENTION...

OOC: Okay! To make this easier, I am going to split this up into two catch-all logs. This event takes place within the span of September 26 through October 3rd, so maybe include the day in the subject line. If you plan on shifting between the worlds in the middle of a thread, it might be a good idea to add a link when starting a new thread in the other log (but it's not mandatory. Do whatever works for you!).

Characters who wind up in the fog world will either find themselves simply waking up to it, or walking when suddenly it becomes strangely more difficult to navigate the hallways. Hmmm... the lock is broken, you cannot open it. What more, they will find that their devices aren't working properly. The video feed is mostly snow. Audio kind of works, though! So you're free to give that a whirl.

Those who were not drawn in by the siren call of Silent Hill will not be able to physically interact with any of the characters stuck in the fog or Otherworld. To those in the real world, they simply vanished, and may find traces of them via unclear radio static on the communicators or catch ghostly glimpses of the missing people wandering the ship. But that's it. Ooh, spooky...

Monsters can appear in the fog world, but there are significantly less of them. You're probably likely to only run into a few of them. Other than that, you're almost safe here. Almost. Things are just unsettling and foggy and doesn't look quite right. But you never know when things might transition into the Otherworld, so be careful.

By the by, now might be a good time to stock up.

For information/questions, refer to this post.

It could be. [Blake is frowning as Kirk materializes in front of him, though.] Or it could be a really bad sign, too. [Ever the optimist.]

Has anything like this ever happened here before?

Once. [he says, taking a moment to look at Blake and be sure he's unharmed, then he starts moving slowly through the fog again.]

The corridors changed, and people were lost in them for days. But there wasn't any fog, that time.

Changed? [Blake frowns, doing a similar once-over for Kirk, then follows him, gun at the ready.]

You mean, different from how they usually change?

They didn't just move like they usually do. They were literally endless.

[he exhales, and really, sincerely hopes that he isn't getting into a situation like that right now.]

We sent search parties out, and they got lost too. It ended with a handful of us finding a room with human skeletons in it.

[he glances at Blake.]

That was our first encounter with the entity on board.

[Blake listens to his account, frowning a little. That smiley guy, is what he must mean.]

But there was no fog that time? [He glances around, trying to ascertain any other shapes in the fog. It's a pointless exercise, and he remembers something Bruce told him - so he closes his eyes to listen, instead of looking.]

Does this feel the same to you?

[personal profile] goldshirt 2012-09-28 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

[the answer is to both questions; the fog and the feeling, but he elaborates anyway. unlike Blake, Jim hasn't had that kind of training. what he knows is basically military with a touch of martial arts and arms training. navigating without his eyes hadn't really been part of it, but Jim was really starting to think it'd be a good thing to pick up, especially if he was going to spend more time on this fucking ship.]

This is different.

[Blake nods, still listening, trying to hear and feel what's going on beyond himself, beyond his own breath, his own beating heart. He takes a careful step forward, frowning as he listens. It's hardly a confident stride - he still feels like he should have his eyes open, but that's stupid. There's nothing to see but fog, nothing but strange shapes to trick them both, freak them out and make them useless to help anyone who might actually need it.]

I think we should help people first. Maybe try to gather them into some of the common areas - kitchens, or rec rooms if we can find them.

[Kirk glances, then double-takes at the man at his side. he has his eyes closed, but he seems to be focused on something and Jim has spent enough time up here to know not to try and guess at the people around him. they often have skills that he's never considered. so instead, he goes back to peering into the fog, phaser at the ready.]

That was my plan, but I haven't come across a single door since I left my cabin.

[He probably looks silly, he knows, but that's not the point. It almost seems prescient, that Bruce started teaching him recently. He's not sure where Bruce is right now, but he can almost hear the other man saying those things to him. Every time you take a breath, slow your heart rate. Listen.]

There's... something not right about this. Hallucination of some kind?

[Fear gas, his mind whispers. He doesn't know what that's like, not from personal experience, but he knows Crane used to be here, and he's heard the stories. From people who were there, in Gotham, in the Narrows when it happened all those years ago. None of them talk about fog, per se, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.]

I don't think so. [he speaks slowly; the ship had a tendency to play with them, that wasn't anything new.] We had a stint with a hallucinogenic introduced into the vents before, but- [he frowns] Well to be honest, there was more screaming.
learnedtosmile: (021)

[personal profile] learnedtosmile 2012-10-03 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
[He thinks about that - Kirk is probably right, about the screaming, anyway. Then again, this has only just started.] Crane's fear gas. [He says it aloud, because he wants to make sure they're on the same page.]
goldshirt: (haters to the left ✬)

[personal profile] goldshirt 2012-10-03 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
That's the one. [at least, that's what Robin and them had called it, and having suffered the effects of it, he knew how accurate it was.]
learnedtosmile: (056)

[personal profile] learnedtosmile 2012-10-05 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
This isn't that. I never experienced it myself, but you're right. [Blake sighs, rubbing his hand over his face.] And it wouldn't affect the communicators.
goldshirt: (you're kidding right ✬)

[personal profile] goldshirt 2012-10-08 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[as if reminded, Jim pulls out his communicator; it's still dead, though as they move through the fog a static kicks up that has Jim's brow creasing.]

That's new.
learnedtosmile: (018)

[personal profile] learnedtosmile 2012-10-08 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Blake finally turns to look at him, frowning more deeply.] Never happened before? What kinds of things might disrupt the network like this?
goldshirt: (full of gravitas ✬)

[personal profile] goldshirt 2012-10-09 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Dead zones in the Tranquility can cause it. [which was- seriously worrisome, because how the hell far had they wandered, then? the last time this had happened they'd found that room...]
learnedtosmile: (046)

[personal profile] learnedtosmile 2012-10-09 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Dead zones. [Clearly, not exactly the same thing as a dead zone in Gotham - a break in cell phone service. Blake frowns down at his own communicator.] Do they move, too? Like the corridors?
goldshirt: (connections ✬)

[personal profile] goldshirt 2012-10-15 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's possible. Since the corridors change, it's hard to keep it straight. [Jim looks up into the mist, but it's nearly impossible to see anything that isn't directly in front of his face. he can't shake this foreboding in his gut, though; like maybe that static wasn't a good sign.]
