Security Department [open log]
CHARACTERS: Any and all
LOCATION: Security offices
WARNINGS: None at the moment, but if Tyke posts, then profanity, and if Soysauce posts, then goopiness
SUMMARY: Open log for SEC for the month of December.
NOTES: This is open to members of SEC and also members of the public who want a bit of SEC-siness in their lives. So you can post in here if you're a SEC member who wants an open thread for his/her patrol route, or a SEC member who wants to thread out patrolling with their partner (bonus points for buddy-cop banter); you can also use this for interactions in the main SEC offices, or you can post in here if you're working out in the gym and need a spotter, or you can post in here if you're lost in the halls and want someone official to help you back to your halls, or you can post in here if you're breaking into the SEC offices to have SEC-s on the desks - the possibilities are endless! (But don't feel limited to this log, either.)

after all, it's pretty nice having a companion while doing these patrols, no? it gets a little lonely doing it alone sometimes, and he's never been type to turn down company. ]
Aha -- I imagine it must have been an awful shock when you first went through those jumps, then! Emerge from some horrid tank full of fluids, only to find a bunch of strange people who're all missing parts! Like finding oneself in a world where everyone's missing a few fingers?
[ he chuckles to himself quietly at the thought. ] It must be nice, though. Having someone from the same place aboard the ship. Like having a little piece of home around?

His pace is leisurely, not falling behind Soysauce but not tearing ahead of him, either. The loneliness of the patrols doesn't bother him, not usually, but the silence that reigns all over the ship now makes him a bit more grateful to have someone to talk to.]
It was very strange. And horrid. [He's not angry to be reminded of it, but he'd rather not think back to the more unpleasant bits of his first arrival here--the tube down his trachea, the fluid staining his vision with a hazy blue right before he fully reached consciousness. By now, he's used to it, but disorienting doesn't even begin to describe the first time.]
There were humans in our world once, I think. Or something like them. But I never saw any. They must have disappeared a long time ago.
[He nods then, and smiles a little.] Yeah. I have my friend Konoe here. He's not from my hometown, but as long as he's here, that's all I need.

[ soysauce gives a thoughtful little hum at that, hands folded behind his back and head canted up as he tries to picture such a sight. well, it looks like the ribika aren't that different from humans at first glance, like humans given some rather feline traits and mannerisms. but still ...
and while his home could be rather desolate in spots -- miles and miles of desert with not a single living person in sight -- that was rather different from a world completely devoid of people. what an odd thing to imagine.
he's snapped out of his thoughts when asato mentions his friend, though, and soysauce gives a warm smile. ]
Aha -- I'm almost a little jealous! It must be wonderfully comforting, to have someone you already know aboard the ship. Ah, not to say that acquaintances made aboard the Tranquility are any less valuable, or anything of that sort, but sometimes it's just good to have an old friend around, I suppose.

It never struck him as particularly bad. There were cats inhabiting that world now, and animals of all kinds. It was impossible to miss something he'd never seen, though all cats did pine for humankind somewhere in their hearts.
Soysauce's smile and good nature are infectious, and Asato smiles back at him.]
I didn't know him for very long. Only a day or two. None of the people I've known a long time are here. [Though he couldn't really call anyone else his friend. He had a mother, a caretaker, and people who tolerated him, and he never tried to delude himself into believing otherwise.]
But it's alright. He's very important to me, so I'm happy he's here. [A swish of his tail before he gives Soysauce a sidelong glance.]
There's no one else from your world here?
no subject
Well, a day or two could make a huge difference, no? One never knows who'll end up being a lifelong friend, after all!
[ a chipper little laugh before he glanced down the hallway, his smile looking ever so slightly rueful as he rubbed a hand against the back of his head. ]
I don't believe anyone else from my home's here, as far as I know. At least, not anyone I recognize or who's spoken of my home.
[ a pause before he added more energetically, trying to sound upbeat, ]
Ah, but that might be all for the better, no? It's quite an odd place, this, and I'm sure many of my friends have better things to do than be stuck in this odd place putting up with me!

Lifelong friend. That's right.
[His attention remains on Soysauce while they walk now. Even if he can't really reminisce about anything from home, except maybe a few favorite foods and his mother, what little he remembers of her, conversations about other worlds always draw him in for some reason. It's incredible to think how much is out there that he never even could have imagined.]
A lot of people don't like it here, [he agrees quietly, though he doesn't seem to quite share that sentiment.] But maybe it's easier if you have people you know from home. I don't think they'd mind having you around. You're friendly.

so it's actually a little startling when soysauce hears those blunt compliments (?), and they pull him out of his thoughts fairly suddenly. a wide-eyed, owlish little blink before giving a soft laugh. a distinct flush of pink etched across his cheeks as he rubs at his jaw. ]
Ah! Well -- I'd hope that was the case. Goodness knows I tend to bother the people aboard this place enough as is, I'd hope my presence was tolerable, at least!
[ a small clear of the throat before he adds, ] Perhaps someone from my home will join me eventually, though! Who knows what might happen here.

He can't forget they're on the job, though--every now and then his ears prick up and swivel, keeping him alert even while he appears calm.
Soysauce is--different from many of the people he knows, that much is certain. More chatty and brighter, quicker to laugh. Asato's expression seems almost deadpan in comparison while he listens to him.]
You're tolerable.
[A nod follows. Not intended as an insult, though it comes out just a plainly as everything else he's said. He'd rather be on patrol with Soysauce than with some of the more gruff members of the security force.]
Would you be happy if they showed up? Maybe they miss you too. [His ears give a twitch back, just slightly.] That's the hard part about it. Here or there. Sometimes it's hard to choose. But if I hadn't come here, I wouldn't even have met Bardo.
[Maybe. Probably. He's a Setsuran, so Asato can't imagine how they could meet otherwise.]
He makes really good food.
