MEDBAY CATCH-ALL | JANUARY
CHARACTERS: EVERYBODY. Are you working in the Medical department? Are you sick? Do you need shrapnel dug out of your arm? Are you going in for a check-up? Are you visiting someone? Are you grabbing some space tampons? Are you just here to bitch about how terrible the Medbay coffee is? Get in here.
LOCATION: the Medbay & its adjoining areas (gravity couches; locker room; morgue; SHOWERS? idk man whatever turns you on)
WARNINGS: Sick or injured people who may or may not be tripping off their medication? Also, whatever gross weirdos happen to be in Medbay at the time.
SUMMARY: It's a catchall Medbay post! For characters to interact within the setting of Medical and do whatever the hell they want, set during the entire span of vague, nebulous space January. That is really all there is to this.
NOTES: This is really just a general catchall post for things people might not want to set up separate logs for, plus an excuse for open log mingling shenanigans. If you want to specify when in the month things take place, feel free to put it in your subject line! The same goes for whether or not the thread is locked to certain characters.

Upon leaving stasis, just beyond the gravitation chamber, you'll find the open space of Medbay. This department is equipped to perform entirely independent of human involvement, but as time has passed you'll find that medical is now attended by your fellow passengers, operating on a series of shift rotations. Not unlike the other specialties, medical is equally susceptible to loss and appears consistently in need of volunteer assistance. Admittance to the bay at large is dependent upon security clearance. For example, all passengers will be able to access bandages, low level pain medication and the like, assistants will be able to access equipment to assess a patient's vitals, and doctors will have access to controlled substances and patient medical files.
Within medical there are numerous beds and consoles to monitor the status of patients who have been admitted. Due to advances in medical technology, passengers can expect that injuries and illness will heal at an accelerated rate. Breaks and fractures, for example, will recover within a fraction of the time that would typically be expected. Rows of cabinets contain all the necessities you would expect to find in a hospital facility. Alongside the basics there are also decontamination chambers, quarantine rooms, and surgical facilities. The entire area gives a distinct impression of cleanliness and sterilization, though on closer examination, given the handful of items that have gone missing, it looks as though someone left in a hurry...

He shrugs, laying the tools out in what's probably an approximate location of where they actually go, but if Bennett weren't watching, he'd probably lay them in a drawer and be done with it. Organization isn't his strong suit and so long as he knows where they are, he's good.

"It seems relatively...quiet here. Which is why I came, well. Poking around." And now she has to direct this conversation somewhere else because its getting far to close to her having to admit to hiding in corners like a frightened mouse. Or maybe she's just being really paranoid. Yeah, it's probably that one but still.
"So. Places. Other than the Medbay," she trails off awkwardly. Interaction with people. How does that work.
no subject
Yeah, not helping. He waves the comment off and presses on, leading her out of medbay and towards the lift. "Right so, the passenger levels are where you'll probably spend most of your time, so we can start the tour there and if you wanna sleep off the dimensional jet lag, you can do that or I could show you the oxygen gardens."
He's very impressed with the oxygen gardens, which is saying something, considering he hates the outdoors.
no subject
"I doubt I'll be sleeping off the dimensional jet lag anytime soon," she remarks, "So oxygen gardens are...fair game. I'll let you know if I start feeling like I do. Want to go sleep off the jet lag."
no subject
He starts walking, sort of going sideways so he can gesticulate at her exuberantly. "You'll love the oxygen gardens. There's a whole hydroponics level and then if you go further up, it's like a real jungle."
no subject
"I'm fine. I promise it probably looks worse that it is," Bennett adds, running her fingers through her hair and making an attempt to get it to swoop over her forehead. Maybe if he can't see the scratch he'll stop worrying about it.
"Like a real jungle. Minus the bugs and other dangerous creatures, I hope."
no subject
He finally tears his eyes away from her and focuses on explaining the situation. "There's bugs, but nothing too bad. They're the only things that can survive during the jumps. There's this shapeshifter lady? She stayed out during a jump as a fly or something. It was wicked hardcore." He pauses, rolling his tongue along his teeth as he considers something else. "We also have a dinosaur and the Starks have wolves, but don't worry about them. They get twitchy when you imply the wolves might eat someone and they stick pretty close to their people."
Now it's becoming a jam session about the people on the ship. Well, it's important for Bennett to know these things. "The Starks aren't bad though. I'm sort of... like part of their court, I guess. I don't really know how it works, but their tiny king is totally chill with me."
no subject
"A...tiny king. That's chill. With you," Repeating what he says seems to be her default right now. Then Bennett starts laughing because this is just. No. This is just too weird.
"You are doing a terrible job of convincing me this isn't a dream."
no subject
"It's all true- I swear." He laughs, shaking his head. "It's been a long time. Nothing shakes me. I mean... my BFF is actually a robot." Former robot, really, but technically going to be an actual robot soonish if all went well. And it would, because Topher refuses to accept anything other than good results. "Let's see... Who else do you need to know." Since he's on the subject of gossiping anyway. "Ooh! Jenna? She's like the team mom of everyone here. She hosts dinner parties on the first floor every night. I don't usually stick around for the actual social niceties part, but the food's awesome. And- and Tony. Tony is amazing. I think the guy's a genius and I don't say that about anyone- just, um, be careful, because there's two of him. You want the one with the robot eye, not the younger one. Trust me." Biased? Topher? Nah. Not that he has any issues with Tony 2.0, but he's attached to his Tony. Then there's Netherlands- yeah, that's his name... Just go with it. He's kind of a gruff teddy bear of a guy and I guess he sells drugs." He makes a face. "Either way, he's a good guy. Little weird, but so's everyone."
He places a hand on the button to call the lift and grins. "Questions so far?"
no subject
"I, I really don't care. About your robot best friend. That just makes me think about, think about my best friend and how she's probably realizing I'm not there anymore and I, I-I don't care about any dinner parties or there being two Tony's or a drug dealer named after a country. I don't care. So I question the relevance of, of your gossiping," she rants and since this is probably a segue into another minor panic attack, she keeps going.
"So I think that you should, I-I think that you should, you should slow down because I'm starting to feel like I'm choking on the, on the information overload. Which normally wouldn't apply because I tend to follow things with, with little difficulty if there's a logical progression but this-- this whole, everything, there's barely any coherency. So, so gossip and other trivial information about complete strangers might be best saved for, best saved for 'You've been kidnapped by a spaceship' 102."
She stops with her tirade and starts to calm down a little bit. One arm gets wrapped around her middle tightly and her other hand starts rubbing at her temple.
"Perhaps, perhaps the oxygen gardens should also be in '102'."
no subject
"Yeah, I- yeah." He digs the heel of his palm into his temple. "Right, I, uh... I got carried away. It's just been awhile since I saw anyone from my universe that doesn't automatically-" He trails off and circles a hand in an odd gesture. "Anyway. I can still show you to your room and maybe not say anymore words for awhile. And then we can... We can maybe start this over and do it in a way where I don't look like a complete freak. Again."
Good save, Topher. Excellent save. Distraught, apologetic puppy mode is now activated.
no subject
And now he probably thinks she's crazy so she doesn't want to do anymore damage. If this is, in fact, reality, she'd like to have the chance to pick at his brain.
"Yes, ah. My, my room. That's a good idea," she mutters, mostly staring down at her feet.
no subject
By the time they reach the right floor, he's all silenced out, but no less awkward. "Uh... What's the number on your arm? That'll be your room number. It's also your key to get in. You can recode the locks if you ever wanted to give someone else access or move to a lower floor or something." Now he's all business- going off topic didn't really go so well, so...
no subject
So she sticks to this whole no nonsense, all business thing. She has to peek at her arm for the number, though. It's only been a few hours, she hasn't quite made a point to remember it.
"Zero one four, zero two six," she answers quietly.
no subject
He trails off a little. Maybe she won't need anything, especially not from a crazy guy who gets way too comfortable, totally forgets he shouldn't be, and then breaks her brain. However, he still presses onward, because now that it's out, he might as well finish the thought. "But I stay down on the first floor. My room's zero-zero-one, zero-nine-zero."
Once he finds the appropriate room, he stops in front of it and sucks in a breath. "Well, this is it. Home sweet home."
no subject
After a small bit of fumbling, she opens the door and glances up at him.
"Thank you," she says, "Thank you for, um. For helping me." And then she's rudely slipping in the room and closing the door. No need to prolong this any further. Bennett would rather be left alone with her own thoughts for the time being.
