seventeenth jump;

CHARACTERS: any and all
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond
WARNINGS: maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: Keeping up with the tradition and copy pasted like always from the last one

You wake up in darkness.

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

You are not alone.

There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

This is your welcome party.

Oh... but-- surely it doesn't always have to be like that. There are plenty of happily married people out there!
supfirehawk: (Are you serious?)

Newlyweds, maybe. But show me a relationship that doesn't start going down the drain the moment they get rings on, and I'll show you a unicorn.

[the question might half be a joke but Jim takes a beat too long as his brain tries to catch up with what he's seeing, takes a moment to restart and move from surprise to action. ]

You've- [he blinks, squints as he finally catches up with himself] Wait, do you remember being here before? [because a lot of in his change had happened in the time Scotty had come and gone- the wraith and the masks- with how nearly nonchalant the engineer is, Kirk can't quite tell at a glance what he might know. Not like with Uhura.]

Well I'm not exactly like the others you have met. We aren't all the same.

[Lestat pushes off the tile, and within a blink, he is moving to the other side of Thranduil.]

Though you do have some practice on blocking thoughts. An admirable try.

[ he takes a breath because yes, everyone has a different version of what happens, a different tale depending on what has stuck with them and what is important. It's different with them, because they have a procedure that they follow. He understands her frustration because he knows if it were him coming into the middle of chaos, only rewarded half bits of information, he wouldn't be impressed.]

This is the Tranquility, a colonization vessel in a remote part of space in an alternate reality. When we arrived the previous crew, save acting captain Ward and chief engineer Resnik, were all missing. We've been manning this place since we got here. The theory is that a malfunction in the jump drive's resulted in a rip in space/time, people arrive and disappear almost at random. You were here once, working with communications, but I doubt you remember it.

[he searches her face for a heartbeat, as though to verify his own assumption, but her attentiveness and confusion makes it fairly clear. He nods, mostly to himself.]

Everything you've heard about, the fog, the stasis sickness, the creatures- it's all trouble we've had happen in our time here. I have reports of everything that you can go over once we get you situated.

[kirk doesn't do paperwork- or rather, it's that he hate it- but his file keeping up here nearly borders on obsessive. Names, dates, things that could be adventures but were just as much nightmares- it's all there, ready for the chance when they come out the other side, Kirk will be able to hand it in and declare everything they'd gone through to Starfleet.]

"I would hope you would. No need to save face on my account." Lestat moved slowly (it seemed like that of a slug, to his body), circling around closer to her. Mojo, of course, stayed where he was, moving to lay down on the cool floor.

"Anything. Who is in charge, here. How long people have been here...what sort of manner of people exist..." He paused, "If they are all as pretty as you."

[ He takes a breath as if to speak, but then stops himself. There was a time when Albert would've naively pointed to his own parents, or to Eugénie's, or even Valentine's ... but these days he knows better. ]

[ He closes his mouth, racking his memory for an answer. ]

Alright, phones--Phones I can get.

[nod, nod. he blinks hard, trying to keep himself together for the meanwhile.]

Were would this network be at?

Skag. Name's Dukino.

[The answer, by the way, is no. Skags do not play fetch. He tosses the stick and Dukino looks at it, then trots over to see if it's edible. It isn't, of course, and Dukino stands and watches Mordecai expectantly.]
linguistician: (I still remain the same)

[She's appreciative and attentive all at once. She wasn't any less grateful for the fact that others had wanted to help her get situated, had taken the time to answer, but...There's a difference between a completely subjective view point, marred by what they had and hadn't been willing to learn. And someone who delivers facts and fills in all the important holes.

She follows along right up until he says that she's been here before. Confusion is what she allows to show, and the alarm is what she hides. There is no part of this place that is familiar to her, the experience was new, even if she understood the mechanics of stasis fluid and other assorted functions of the pod on a basic conceptual level. She feels no pain in her head, saw no wound or bruise when she was getting herself together, there's should be no reason she is unable to remember.

The mind is important. How she intakes information, how she perceives it, retains it- It matters. It's unsettling. It also begs the question of...When she was gone, where did she go? Why did she come back?

She's been quiet too long. Uhura gives a stiff little nod, tries to focus in on the last thing he said, replays it and answers appropriately, if not more than a little disjointed
]

That would be- Fine, Captain. [It doesn't relay if she's displeased at having to wait until later for those things, if she's surprised at Kirk's ability to keep accurate records, if she's annoyed at being told she needs to get 'situated'. It's just an acknowledgement that he's spoken, a courtesy. She's still ten paces back, stuck on what she deems, for the moment, more important.

Niceties out of the way, she skips right back to it
]

Why don't I remember? [If he's clued into the fact that she doesn't, doesn't seem surprised by the occurrence, he should- He should know why. Because she needs it corrected]

One other passenger so far. She could tell I was new.

[She didn't exactly go running up to indecent people either, in fact hadn't reached out to anyone at all- Mostly, because she wasn't interested in running into anyone who might have caused this. But, there were things problematic in speaking to others here, as well]

She wasn't an officer. [That much had been obvious] It wasn't impartial or full information.

[He leaves the question on hold as he takes another hit, holds it deep in his lungs, breathes it out slowly. Mostly because he's thinking of a decent way to phrase 'I was attacked by zombies and discovered a underground base full of supernatural monsters used for horrible sacrifices that prevented the end of the world'. Just give him a second.]

[ There's some small part of him that's a little-- disappointed, or petulant over it, maybe?-- that the anger's fading. But it's probably best for all involved. He hesitates. ]

Useful thing to be born with. Do you heal other people, too?

"...I do not know the history as well as you might think." Fili smiled apologetically. "We were of the diaspora, Thranduil. Some of our own history was lost in the travels." In the attempt to find a home.

You'll have to thank Nill, she's the one that made them.

[Wheatley isn't even going to bother pretending that he knows how to cook. He knows as well as anyone that it would probably end in the flames of disaster.]

Always looking for help, sure. Good to have lots of people, that way if someone's sick or--or gone, we can still run the booth.

[ A curiosity that's probably going to get him hurt. It flares again when he asks that question, mind flashing to so many different memories of Lor healing and hurting himself because that's how his ability worked. There's a hard breath, shaking from the grief and anger and what little hatred he feels welling up so that it tastes bitter in his mouth. ]

I'm not that kinda angel. [ He feels numb. ] You need something?
testgasm: (are you for real)

[personal profile] testgasm 2013-04-13 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
And?

[Wheatley has been stoned all of once and doesn't really get it. He's still hung up on the cookies.]

You could always make the preemptive strike on the network. You know, the--the "if you see a bloke that looks like me but doesn't act like me, he's not me" speech. Ariadne and Hayley seem to get on just fine, those two aren't even remotely the same.
testgasm: (gbjklbgjkgljrklkg)

Exactly!

[He seems to light up at that, because there's no bonding material quite like commiseration and finding you dislike the same things as someone else. Wheatley will fully admit that organization and orderliness are not exactly his top priority, but surprises are only okay if he's the one doing the surprising.]

Surprises, I mean. Can't believe he tried to pull that on me. So, yes, sorry if I--if I came off as perturbed, in the lab. It wasn't you, it was just--just Topher. Being Topher. I'm, uh. What do you say we start over?

[ Waiting to hear what he would say was the worst wait ever.

Not because Ryan was talking to Obi-Wan Kenobi, but because he told someone his secret. If someone told you that they saw a dog as a human being you'd think they were crazy, right? You would think that they needed to get checked out somewhere...right? Ryan didn't want to hear that. He couldn't. He wasn't crazy. He couldn't be.

But when he heard what Obi-Wan had to say... it felt like the world had been lifted off of his shoulders. Ryan sighed, running a hand over his face. Holy shit, thank god...

The next question was asked, and Ryan frowned for a moment, staring straight ahead. Well, might as well talk. ]
I'm...not too sure.

A few months ago, I tried to, um. Kill myself. [ He shrugs, and looks over to Obi-Wan. No big deal. ] I took all of my pills, but it didn't work. And since that morning when I first saw him...Wilfred's always been real to me. We used to do everything together.

[ He's not buying it that time. And he doesn't like that look on your face either, sir. ]

But I told you exactly what Wilfred looked like. I'm pretty sure you could have thought that over in your 'process of elimination'. I don't exactly like the fact that you led me onto this guy and make me look like a jackass in front of everyone.

"Ah, a man who gets right to the point. I like that." His smirk widened then as he moved closer to the other man, evaluating him.

"Well, if you're not human then, what are you?" Also straight to the point. Because really, he had to make a point of figuring out these different species, how they lived, how long they lived.
