eighteenth jump;

CHARACTERS: any and all
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond
WARNINGS: maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: Keeping up with the tradition and copy pasted like always from the last one

You wake up in darkness.

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

You are not alone.

There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

This is your welcome party.

[At hearing she's taking all of this very well, her smile becomes more warm. She's only a little proud at how well she's managed to adjust the past year of her life.]

Guess I've been through a lotta weird stuff, now that I think 'bout it. I'm Rose Tyler, by the way. Good t'meet you.

[This is said ever so casually, although the fact this girl's been here so long doesn't sit right with her.]

Wait, a year and a half? By choice, or -?

[She can't bring herself to think of the alternative.]

[Funny thing about this ship, how most of the people on it have been through a lot of weird stuff. Or are weird stuff, no disrespect to some of her closest friends. But that train of thought will only get her started on her whole rant about thinking they're being collected, so she leaves it be and nods.]

Hey, flower names. I think there's a Lily around here, too. We should find her and get a drink sometime.

[Which is a nice idea and all, but mostly just a way of buying herself time to figure out an answer to that question that isn't totally depressing.

There isn't one.]

Nnno. Far as I know there's no way to choose to leave. It happens! Sometimes people aren't here for very long at all. We just don't know if there's a way to trigger it.

[Sorry.]

Yeah, kinda figured that'd be the case.

[She frowns a bit, but only because she knows that it's going to be difficult for her to get out of here. Not impossible, just incredibly difficult. ]

Do you know how any of us got here? [There's a part of her that's worried she did get sucked into the void and this is where it ends up, so she's half expecting Daleks or Cybermen to pop up and out of the woodwork at any second.]

I mean, there's gotta be a way back. [Because nope, having a complete lack of choice is not something Rose wants to have to deal with. She doesn't like the idea of it at all.]
