What else could I do? [it makes him feel a tad helpless, being unable to help his father heal, or deal with his attacker. or even to have been unable to help him get to the medbay.

but the cycle of distress and helplessness is as pervasive in legolas as it is in thranduil. he realizes what he has said only after he says it, and ducks his head in silent apology, pressing a quick kiss to his father's temple before helping spread out the extra sheets with his free hand.]

You might have sought me out. [He's muttering now, voice going soft.] You are a great warrior. I am proud of this. Proud of you indeed. But these guns are a cheat. Too deadly and too easy to use, too swift to kill. Killing should at least require one to work for it. It should not be easy. I will not let such a thing happen to you. To one I love.

[Not words he says often. He'd like to think there's never been any doubt, but he's more of a "show, don't tell" sort of person, and his "showing" has a degree of restraint. This is a sign of how drugged, and how frightened, he really is.]

You told me not to. I would not have done otherwise. [but he says nothing more (can't say anything more).

he knows how thranduil is. knows that he isn't as verbal or forthcoming about some things, knows not to expect too much from him in that area. knows, maybe, that it's the medicine or drugs or whatever they've given his father that's making him ramble like this or this much. he won't complain, though. it's not as though he's ever considered that thranduil might have thought otherwise of him.

I know. [Heavy eyelids drift closed. His grips loosens around Legolas' hand, but does not release. The next sentence comes out in a mumble.] Did they stop him?

[thranduil's grip may loosen, but that just makes legolas's tighten all the more.]

They must have. Or they will, soon enough.

[elvenking]

Wake me when you know. I fear I cannot stay awake much longer.

[tofindthesun]

I will. [he won't. he rushes stray hair off of thranduil's brow with a soft smile.] Sleep now, my Lord.

[elvenking]

[Thranduil releases a long breath and goes quiet for a short time before mumbling again.]

Do not over-worry yourself. I'll not go anywhere while I sleep. Stand up and walk about, or to and fro. Be sure to eat.

I will, but I will be here also. [as uncomfortable it is to be surrounded by metal. thranduil's here, at least, and.. kili, to a mildly lesser extent of comfort.] Do not worry for me.

[The last syllable is barely even vocalized.]

[legolas falls quiet for a moment. despite his promise to eat and take care of himself, he stays for a while longer, humming a tune from the slightly better days of his childhood.]
