[ brad doesn't recognise her in the memories; what he recognises is that she's in a relationship and that the memory brings up ones of his fiancee and how she left him for his best friend. as if the fact that he has memories that don't belong to him and someone has memories of his that don't belong to them in their head didn't already piss him off enough -- this is adding insult to injury, or perhaps injury to insult because he can make do with memories that aren't his, but he hates the disgustingly sweet (by his standard) nature of the dates he suddenly remembers.

he has no idea who's memories he has, even though he knows what she looks like because she checked her hair in a mirror just before one of the many dates he suddenly remembers. he has no intention of seeking her out, but when he runs into her on one of his patrols, he still stops and scowls at her.

[ when she speaks he recognises her voice because he heard it in the memories through her ears, slightly lower than it sounds to his ears but still the same in pitch and accent, as if seeing her and remembering the reflection in the mirror hadn't been enough.

it's her, no doubt about it.

Other than remembering your disgustingly sweet courtship? [ his tone heavily implies that he considers a lot wrong with that thank you very much ]

[ he knows how this works; an exchange of memories rather than something one-sided, but that doesn't mean it sits in any way comfortably with him that she has memories of his. ]

What do you remember? [ which of his memories did you get, that is. ]

[ Two weeks of having other people's creepy, disjointed memories cut and pasted into his own mind had made Casey twitchy, overaware of everything, analytical of even the slightest thing. In his head, the slightest gesture or word had become important, as he tried to pick out whose mind belonged to who.

When Sarah's memories hit him, it was much less of a puzzle. First of all, there was looking at himself through her eyes--that was a pretty big clue. And at first it was just irritating, he tried to ignore it, and then it got less irritating and more...distracting. Distracting wasn't acceptable. Distracting got in the way of him putting together engines, and distracting took his mind away just as he was reconstructing his pistol with a stray fond thought about Chuck's smile.

Stray thoughts about Chuck's smile were never welcome.

Never.

There was only one option: get the memories out of his head as fast as possible. And if that meant killing the person whose head they actually belonged in, he supposed it might be worth a try. Right? Of course there might be other ways to deal with it, but nobody was suggesting that Casey's mind didn't jump straight to the violent option.
]

Walker, are you in here?

That's one thing to call them.

[ Casey wasn't sure what else to call them, but it wouldn't be a nice word that he used to describe them. They'd messed up his entire month, given him a whole new - unwanted - peek into how other people's lives really were, and let them know far too much about him, about Chuck, about Bryce--about him shooting Bryce. Who even knew what, with most of them? Getting answers out about what they'd seen was like getting blood from a stone, but Casey couldn't rely on them to shut their mouths about any of it either, and honestly? He was a very private person. That was the bottom line, when it came down to it. Casey didn't talk about his feelings with anyone; so giving them a first class backstage pass to his head was the ultimate punch in the balls.

In many ways, sharing those feelings with Walker was the worst that it could get. Well, the worst that it could be without Chuck being here. He knew he'd have to look her in the eyes again and see her seeing right through him.

Goddamned ship.

Can I come in?

[ Ugh where did that politeness come from? ]

[ Casey doesn't hesitate, but steps inside instead, trying to master some of his sense of self and simply striding inside. Though they've both been here for a while, more than a year, Casey has never been inside Sarah's room. Honestly, he never had any reason to. But this feels sort of comfortable. Familiar. ]

Have you had any headaches yet? Nosebleeds?
sugarbear: (Spies spy imagine that)

They get worse, you know, the longer you leave it.

[ Casey considers the room. It's small. Sitting would give him a better view of the room, but put him at a disadvantage. But that's training. They're both falling back on it, even knowing each other as well as they do. Who sits first? Who turns this into a conversation and not a briefing? ]

It got pretty bad before. I uh--didn't want to go through with it. Who would?

[ It's still uncomfortable. His whole position shows it, and he doesn't make a move to sit yet. He should. They have to touch for this to work. ]

I met some English vampire who got your shooting habit but shot the magazine out onto the floor when I handed him a gun. He had memories of me, too.

Bad enough we're hemorrhaging information ourselves. People are probably getting memories about you from me, too.

Oh really, I bet those were fun.

[ Casey had no idea, thank god. He'd managed to avoid any links with people who ate other people, and while there had been a few unfortunate kisses, the same could be said of his life. So long as nobody got his memory of Chuck trying to 'cure' him with a big, fat snog, he could carry that shame to the grave, the way it was meant to be.

He'd survived it so far, come off relatively unharmed. But there was still time for this to go horribly wrong. With a deeply wounded sigh, he moved himself over to the bed, perching carefully on the edge of it.
]

How do you want to do this?
sugarbear: (Default)

[personal profile] sugarbear 2013-11-07 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ But Casey isn't so sure. First of all, holding hands was dumb. It was the kind of thing you did in during recess when you were six. When holding hands was the most innocent way to show just how much you liked someone, even if you didn't understand what liking someone even meant.

That wasn't the biggest problem he had with it.
]

The way it works is if you and I break contact for even a minute, we have to start all over again. I'd rather not take any chances with you seeing something you don't like and pulling away.

[ So what were the options? ]

You got a stocking or a belt or something we could tie around out wrists?

[personal profile] sugarbear 2013-11-15 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmph. Alright, but don't say I didn't warn you.

[ Casey was hard, Casey was tough, Casey could take looking at Sarah's life without needing space. Sure. But when it came to the things he'd done for Chuck, for a future she hadn't lived yet, and for instance, to him shooting Bryce Larkin--he couldn't be sure how Sarah would react.

But he can't put it off any longer, not through any other kind of workaround, and he offers his hand out toward her, palm side up, and waits for her to take it.
