Everybody come and play! Throw every last care away!

CHARACTERS: Fili, Kili, and Thranduil
LOCATION: The gardens.
WARNINGS: Drunkenness and feelings.
SUMMARY: Fili has the goldsickness bad, so Kili and Thranduil are stealing his Arkenstone and jettisoning it.
NOTES: There is no mall in this log.

An entire cask of mead. A comfortable blanket. Several bottles of beer and a bottle of something called "tequila" that he has never tried but it smells strong. This ought to be a night to remember.

He and Kili have made their plans. Thranduil will give him the beers that contain only a mild soda. A little slight-of-hand will ensure the tequila doesn't smash Kili as well as his brother.

There's something of a karmic poetry to this.

Thranduil waits for his friends on the blanket, resisting the urge to pour himself an early glass. He has to be sober, too.

Threesome thread. Thranduil, Fili, Kili?

To say he was wary of this, was an understatement. There was something about this that didn't sit right with him.

"And why are we drinking?"

It is an obvious question; he knew now, that Thranduil knew of the Arkenstone, of the necklace. Were Kili not going to be there, he would not be here at all, for fear of what Thranduil might try. He was his friend, of course, a brother, even.

But as the Arkenstone sat warm against his chest, he could remember the words he spoke, not so long ago.

sounds good!

There are nerves burning their way through his veins, the fear of the plan not working, and the fear of success too. His smile is small, hesitant at the corners; Kili still hasn't mastered the ease of lying others hold and he doubts he ever will. Fili is his King here, goldsick and going mad, and Kili must try to do his best to help free him from it's grasp -- but Fili is his brother over all and that is what fuels him.

Still, the knowledge of what is to come does not sit well.

"Must there be a reason?" A nudge of shoulders, "It has been too long since we have had chance to drink and be merry among friends!"

He looks across at Thranduil for a brief moment, heart falling into the pit of his stomach as he steels himself.

Fili looks at Kili, frowning slightly, before looking over at Thranduil. There should be a reason--and Kili is nervous; he can tell that well enough. For whatever the elvenking has told him, or for some other reason, he does not know.

Still, Thranduil's words make more sense, but still, he sips at the mead carefully, not moving to take large drinks of it as he might, if this were a truly happy occasion.

"It has; I have been tired and heartsick from it." And more than that, but he can't truly say. It troubles him, in the dark nights, but he knows he is in the right. He is deeply settled in that idea, alone. For to be a King is to be alone.

"I am glad you finally understood what I was saying, Thranduil." Though telling Kili all of it, was not something he liked.

Well he never said he was good at this sort of thing. Fili frowns at him, and Thranduil doesn't let anything slip, but Kili fidgets still. One hand tugs at a braid framing his face, thumb against the silver of Thorin's bead, the familiar comfort of it a balm to his nerves. Fili does not believe them, he can see that for certain, but his brother is still drinking from the glass provided, still speaking rather than getting to his feet and leaving them behind with spilled ale and a failed plan. So perhaps Kili is not overly successful, but it's okay, it's alright.

They can work with this.

Still, there is nothing he can say to this. Kili does not know what it means to be King, not really, nor will he ever even if Fili has but two subjects compared to what he might have had before. It is still a burden, and one he can tell has weighed upon his brother heavily. With sympathy burning his veins, Kili leans closer in solidarity. His gaze is dark and sad.

"We are here for you Fili." Said earnestly, as if Kili could be anything but.

"And what merriment is to be had, in this place?" Fili quirked an eyebrow, taking another sip of his drink. He was being cautious, yes, but imbibing all the same. "I do not doubt that you are here for me, Kili, nor you, Thranduil."

But what did Kili know, of the burdens? Fili, Thorin--they had done their best to protect him from it; perhaps they should not have done so, but yet, that was the case. And Thranduil--perhaps he understood a bit more, but what did he know of dwarves, truly?

He felt trapped in a situation, with people he loved, that he did not know a way out of.

"So I will drink to that, yes. And hope that things will remain peaceful here. But as you well know our future, Thranduil, drinking to such goodwill is a bit disingenuous, is it not?" He looked over at Kili, quirking his eyebrow. "Did he not tell us that peace was made between him and Dain?"

Perhaps Kili might not know the burdens Fili deals with, nor would he understand Thorin's or Thranduil's, or any of the others -- he'd been sheltered as best as possible by his family. But he is not unaware, and Kili knows how it affects his brother, how it affected his uncle. He is helpless, nearly, in the suddenness of divide between them and it hurts, when they had gone through life without such things.

But he loves Fili, and Kili has grown in the span of the year he's been here. Just a bit, but coupled with his sheer stubborness -- well.

"Mm." He nods in agreement, leaning back and bracing himself up with his hands. Certainly it's true, the things Thranduil told them about their future and the peace brokered between him and Dain. Usually it does Kili's heart well to know at least the others left behind would be well enough in their absence. "He did, but it can do harm, I think!"

"Do I?" Fili frowned, a hand moving to touch at his tunic, right where the Arkenstone burned careful and warm against his chest. He did, did he not? Or he did, once--why he felt such strange heat and trouble towards Thranduil's words now, he couldn't truly say. It seemed strange to his own ears, when it should not.

Taking another drink, he shook his head, "Kili, you know as well as I harm can be done without meaning it." As do you, Thranduil. But yes, I suppose we can drink to friendship. Because that is what we are, friends?" Even if they have their differences. But things will change soon enough, hopefully, just given some time.
