forty-fourth jump;

CHARACTERS: Any and all.
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond.
WARNINGS: Maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: Awareness comes to you slowly in the smothering quiet of the blue fluid. In the light piercing through from the medical bay you realise there's a shadow, a figure stood at the glass of your gravcouch, a hand pressed to the surface just above your face. Fear spikes through your gut as waves of alien sensation crash into your mind, a rage that feels endless, all-consuming, furious, molten hatred that you know is for you.

When the fluid drains, door sliding open to deposit you on the medbay floor, you remember it. Remember it coming again and again, like a nightmare that plagued your sleep over and over, leaving you with no respite, no rest. Days. Perhaps even longer.

You remember that the light coming through from behind the shadow was red.

New arrivals will find messages spray-painted in red across their lockers telling them not to follow their tattoo numbers, and instead to find a room on Floors 001-010.

----------------

YOU͘ ̨WAKE̢ ̧UP ́IN DA̛RKN̢E̕SS̶

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

YÓU̴ ̧ĄRE NOT҉ ̷ALǪNE҉

There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

His words sounded so familiar. She could tell him so many things about being grateful for the time they had together, for how outstanding his daughter was. But now wasn't the time for that.

"I'm so sorry," she repeated softly, her head bowed just slightly. "If there's anything I can do, Bail... Take some time off of work, if you need." She didn't have the authority, necessarily, but he worked so hard in Comms. If he ever deserved a break, now was that time.

He smiles and shakes his head. "I'm really not plannin' on it."

Unless she needs more practice. Then maybe he'll have to consider, despite how completely terrible it felt.

Healing scars? Firo's eyebrows go up in genuine and complete surprise. "Wow. That's... that's pretty crazy. Sometimes it seems like the most they do back home is tape you together."

If you can afford it. Treatment wouldn't have saved a lot of the sick people he grew up with anyway--at least, not the treatment they had available at the time--but it would have helped some.

"Yes, it is... ideal that so much information has been made readily available to us," Glacius agrees, withdrawing his own hand and letting it hang by his side once more. "Even if some of the things I read were... concerning, to say the least. This place is very strange."

At Tadashi's next question, Glacius pauses. Up until the bleeding and headaches had started, things had been fairly quiet... but even when he had discovered the remedy to that particular problem, it hadn't gotten any easier. He was a very reclusive being who wasn't fond of physical contact with others; again, if a member of his own species had been there the situation might have been different, but they weren't. He had been left to endure the bleeding and the pain alone in his room for the most part.

"... Still alive so far," is what the alien goes with instead of heaping all of that on this person he's just met. "I am glad that the physical problems that seemed to plague the passengers has seemingly dissipated."
glacius: Focus less on the where and more on the going. (Destination fever.)

The strange ice monster man waits patiently for Eleanor to reach a decision, and then nods when he hears it. Turning on his heel and walking away from the pods, he fetches a towel from the locker room and then heads back to where he found her. A part of him is expecting the human to have used the opportunity to slip away--it's probably what he would have done when he was a brand new arrival to be honest--but regardless, he's back with a fresh towel in hand, looking for her.

Ai could tell when he wasn't wanted. Usually he didn't care about knowing that information and it made no difference, but today he wasn't feeling at his best after the fiasco in the blue goo. As much fun as it was to continue trying to rile her up, he was going to call it a day for now and find somewhere secluded to sleep off the nausea from the Jump.

He lifted a hand in a mock salute. "See you around, girlie." Then, because he couldn't resist a final comment before sauntering off: "Gotta say -- it's going to be a pleasure serving time with you."
ailand: (it's like you think you matter)

[personal profile] ailand 2015-06-11 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh no.

Ai's in a foul enough mood that the only cure (at least in his mind) is to make somebody else more miserable than he is -- which is totally how bad days are dispelled. Really. Trust him. He's an expert. And he's honing in on Robin's irritation. He has to get one more jab in. Tone cocky and dripping with a silent I knew that's what you'd say.
]

Smart move, kid. Always better to keep them guessing, mm? Rather than actually reveal you're not as smart as you think you are.

IT IS A VERY NICE NAME.

[Sorry you stumbled on the version of Death that is a proud grandfather.]

YSABELL WAS ADOPTED OF COURSE.

[He pulls out a picture that looks like it's been painted of a family. The little girl has white hair with a black streak in it and is sitting on his lap while her parents stand around him. They look totally normal.]

HER NAME IS SUSAN. SHE IS MUCH OLDER NOW OF COURSE.

Even if she did need more practice, Rey wouldn't want to subject Firo to that. Unless he offered first, and she would still not be very keen on the idea.

She isn't surprised by his reaction, knowing some things about American history.

"It's pretty crazy even in my world. Also, tape wouldn't do much for open lesions."

Yes she's aware that he didn't mean actual tape. She just smirks somewhat at the thought.

We wanted them taken seriously... that may have been a bit much though.

[She hadn't been involved, but she knows the reasoning.]

I've been here...

[Actually, how long has it been? She's not so good at calendars]

Actually, it must be two years now. So I can tell you that the people behind this aren't anyone you're familiar with.

Tenenbaum nods slowly.

"I am not sure how a thing is possible but ...Lamb was a resourceful woman." Lamb wasn't really someone Tenenbaum ever had to think much about, she probably knew more about her daughter as a little sister, as Tenenbaum herself never really got involved in politics till the end.

"I am sorry I was not able to find you to give you the full plasmid."

"But you were saying you knew me....why was I in Rapture eight years after....why is anyone still in Rapture?"

[Jemma does grimace a little, hoping that she didn't insult him. But he seems to take it in stride, continuing on to explain himself.]

Yes, well, your cooperation is very much appreciated, especially when things get...difficult around here.

[Horror ship. Moving corridors.]

I hope it wasn't too difficult on you?

What's this about Thor's long lost brother?

[She can't mean Loki. Please don't mean Loki. But at least Skye has already spoken to Fitz, got an idea of the basics, and thank heavens for small favors.]

Well, because you had a different locker before - when you were here before. Which...I guess you could say also just happened. But it's alright if you don't remember! I've been told that the same thing happened to me. Just not quite as consecutively.

[Jemma looks up at the girl, the mention of the shadow, and her breath catches.]

The one with the red light behind it?

[She remembers it now, so caught up in the horrors of where she'd been that the horrors of where she is now had barely registered. It shouldn't be a welcome distraction, but it is. She gets to her feet slowly.]

But it couldn't have been real.

Blonde guy. [ Comes the explanation, which Skye quickly waves off. ] Beard. Shoulders like he could carry an army on his back. Not the point. The point is how the hell could I forget something like this? [ If she looks very alarmed, it's because she is. Panic wells in Skye's chest, and before long, it roars to a full-blown campfire of oh shit. ] They took my memories? That doesn't make any sense.

[ oh gosh takeshi :c ]

He did. He was in the pod next to mine but now he's not.

[ in a rush, and it's hard when he spells it out like that. it makes everything seem so terribly obvious, and it makes this search seem all the more futile. thomas doesn't remember a time when newt didn't find him first at the jump. ]

I don't know where he is anymore.

I can't.

[ more of a lament than an answer, frustration and fear in thomas' voice. he can't find newt. he's never not been able to find newt. ever since his first day coming up in the box in the glade, newt's been there. from the moment newt arrived on the tranquility, he was right by thomas' side. and now he's not. thomas is terrified by that, though he's trying not to be obvious about it. ]

I thought he was right next to me. He got in the pod next to mine before the jump.

[ thomas crumples in on himself, sitting down hard on the bench like all his strings have been cut. if thomas couldn't find newt, than surely minho would have been able to. and if neither of them could, it only meant one thing. ]

He's gone.

[ soft and upset, voice gone thick around the lump in his throat. thomas isn't sure if he feels like screaming or like crying. ]

That's what it means.

[ it had happened with teresa. thomas just hadn't realized it could happen again, because surely he and newt and minho were going to stick together no matter what. ]

[ that pulls thomas up short for a moment, confused. ]

Oh.

[ awkwardly, skidding to a stop by her. there's impatience in every line of his body, since she isn't, she's not his newt, but she is a newt. it's not her fault that she's not who he's looking for. ]

The Newt I'm looking for was a boy.
karone: (Listen)

[personal profile] karone 2015-06-12 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
The color usually is cause for alarm. But I'm sure it gets the message across. It certainly did for me.

[A short pause as Karone considers this. Two years? That means that this really has nothing to do with people she's gone up against before. Is that comforting? More terrifying? She hasn't made up her mind yet.]

Doesn't seem like they would be, does it?

[She smiles warmly at Death, though.] I'll have to figure out whether or not that's a good thing. I'm Karone, by the way. [So much nicer introducing herself as that again, rather than her former villainous name.]
karone: (Stare)

[personal profile] karone 2015-06-12 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
[If Karone is startled by the sudden voice speaking up, it's not evident on her face. She does do an awkward cover-herself-up pose, though. He's just a child. At least, he seems to be one. The thing that really gets her is the fact that he speaks as though he's wise beyond his years. That alone softens her expression just a little bit.]

Do you mean the tattoo? No, I suppose I shouldn't try to rid myself of it until I know more about it. I'm just not a fan of things being added to my body without my permission. The last time I went through that it was a horrible experience.

Hey. Are you okay? [Sure, they were all covered in goo, but certainly this was more traumatic for some than for others?]

"Little ones?" Children?

[ She feels terribly for this woman, but knows that it's better to be truthful from the onset. ]

I'm sorry. And... I don't think they came with you. Everyone wakes up at the same time, here, and I haven't seen any new children on board.

"I hope you aren't feeling too sick." Elizabeth took a step or two forward, looking perfectly friendly, admitting a tiny smile. "I know that sometimes the Jumps make me feel nauseous."

Among other things, like frantic and disoriented. It also reminds her that she needs to find Booker, but she (like the man himself) has taken to doing that once she's convinced he's had time to dress.

"My name is Elizabeth," she says. "I can't do much, but... if you have any questions or find you want someone to talk to, I'd like to help."

A lot of people think that when we find a way home, we'll be able to go back to right when we left.

[He doesn't sound terribly excited about the idea. But it matters to other people.]

[ It doesn't take much to get Robin irritated. When he gets to that level he's one of those people who say things that should pretty much be left unsaid. Either that, or he gets himself into trouble that can well be avoided. So...he can relate to that, in a way!

Robin doubles back, shoving himself into Ai's face. If push was going to lead to shove, he'd play right back. ]
Or maybe I have better things to do, other than waste my time playing stupid games like yours.

I don't know what you're trying to prove, but I'm not interested. Either go find someone else to drone on, or leave.
