TENTH WAVE

CHARACTERS: any and all
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond
WARNINGS: maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: Keeping up with the tradition and copy pasted like always from the last one

You wake up in darkness.

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

You are not alone.

There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

This is your welcome party.

[ so. third time. not a charm. though amy does move with a sort of swiftness, quickly regaining her balance and wobbling off to the showers. there's nothing new about the routine, but she's finding it a bit easier to get through with modesty and some grace. she uses the ship's provided outfit to cover herself up, while ridding herself of the goo, since she doesn't plan on wearing it.

the only thing that's different this time is what amy finds inside her locker after her shower. it's her clothes from home. of course, they aren't exactly her first choice. she wonders if it's the ships way of torturing her with a mixture of homesickness and utter embarrassment. but she does look better in it than the ship's uniform. that's how she finds herself standing in the locker room wearing a policewoman uniform with some minor changes — skirt well above the knee and fake radio (but the handcuffs are very real). yes, she's aware this isn't what normal police officers wear. feel free to be the hundredth person to inform her, or ask why.

nevermind that, she thinks. this is another chance to find somebody she knows. maybe even rory. ]

HOPE THIS IS OKAY.

[So hi. We haven't met, but my mentor has your face. And hair. And now you look like her and are wearing a policewoman uniform.

He's washed off the blood from his fight before the jump, dressed up with the jumpsuit and his boots, but he's sporting a couple of semi-fresh new bruises on that face and arms. Miles wasn't planning on seeking out Cat, even if that hair is pretty much unmistakable in this crowd. He ends up finding her anyway (so to speak), and he'd actually feel offended if he wasn't just completely perplexed.]

What the fuck-?
sharp: (the doctor the writer the hairdresser.)

COMPLETELY.

[personal profile] sharp 2012-09-08 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Welp. Amy has definitely met your mentor, who has even mentioned your name, but she still isn't used to getting mistaken for somebody who isn't ... her. So, when she hears the shout of profanity from behind her, she whips around abruptly. The confused face staring back at her isn't setting off any alarms, so she just furrows her brows and quickly glances behind her.

Nope. He's talking about her. She's mildly offended now. The deer-caught-in-the-headlights expression fades as she straightens out her posture, bringing her to her full towering height. She pouts her lips a little. ]

What? Have you got a problem?

[ If there's one big, huge difference between her and Cat, then it's their accents. Amy is all Scottish with no hint of a London accent (even if she can do a good impression of one). ]
scamp: (023)

[personal profile] scamp 2012-09-08 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Miles is way too groggy and pissed off to laugh or make anything of the accent right away. If anything, she should be laughing at him. Whatever fight he got into, he clearly wasn't winning.]

What's happened to ya?
sharp: (the pirates and the pilots.)

[personal profile] sharp 2012-09-13 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Amy might be concerned if he hadn't called her out first. He seemed just fine despite the roughed up appearance. Not that anyone looked their best after a jump. ]

Lack of clothes. What's your excuse? Hang on. [ Stay on track, Pond! ] No, sorry, do you know me?
scamp: (004)

[personal profile] scamp 2012-09-14 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
[That. Leaves him quiet and staring for another while.]

... Are you fucking around?
sharp: (if you be my boat.)

[personal profile] sharp 2012-09-14 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[ For a second, she wonders if maybe he's not okay. But know she's getting an idea of where this is going. ]

Erm, no... So, I'll try asking you a different way. Do you know somebody named Amy or Cat?
scamp: (006)

[personal profile] scamp 2012-09-15 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I know you. [Not even close to getting it.] Who's Amy?
sharp: (wait for me as long as it takes.)

oh god sorry about the delay

[personal profile] sharp 2012-10-07 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately that means you don't know me. I'm Amy.
scamp: (007)

IT'S COOL

[personal profile] scamp 2012-10-08 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[There is... a new quality to the way he knits his brows. He's going to blame it on the disorientation. Yes.]

What?
sharp: do not take. (ships are sailing.)

<3

[personal profile] sharp 2012-10-10 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not Cat. We have the same face. Besides, can't you tell? [ she points to herself, lifting up her eyebrows. ] Scottish.

[ The biggest (only, really) difference they've been able to find is their accents. ]
scamp: (072)

[personal profile] scamp 2012-10-10 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[The outfit and accent could be explained, if Miles let his imagination stretch a little. A different identity seems to be a bigger challenge.]

Well - if you're not Cat, then where the hell is she?
sharp: (it's how it started.)

[personal profile] sharp 2012-10-13 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ah, there we go. Amy can see it's finally clicked in his mind. She wonders if Cat ever mentioned somebody to her. She's trying to recall a name, but nothing is coming to her yet. ]

Not sure. She should be around here somewhere. What's your name?
scamp: (026)

[personal profile] scamp 2012-10-15 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[It takes him a while to answer, eyes narrowed.]

Miles.
sharp: (though far away.)

[personal profile] sharp 2012-10-16 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Sounds a bit familiar. I think she might have mentioned you. [ maybe. whatever. anything to distract the awkward mix-up and the fact that she is still dressed in a police uniform. ] Sooo, are you two good friends, then?
scamp: (012)

[personal profile] scamp 2012-10-16 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's just a quick shrug.]

I guess. How do you know her?

[It isn't the first time River has woken up mostly naked in an unfamiliar place, and she certainly hopes it won't be the last. She could do without the goo, but it turns out to be easy enough to clean off. Neither does the number she finds on her arm particularly worry her- just one more mystery to enjoy solving.

What worries her is feeling like she's fighting off a fog just in order to think. Not being quite able to remember what happened the night before. And currently, the fact that she's just spotted Amy Pond wearing one of her kissogram outfits in the locker room. Logic dictates that this Amy has met her before, since River has already experienced Amy meeting her for the first time back when dealing with the Angel in the Byzantium. But that costume... how long did Amy keep that job for after meeting the Doctor again? She can't remember. She's sure if she could think straight she could think of a better way to approach this, but instead she's hovering, waiting for Amy to notice her so she can judge their positions based on Amy's reaction or lack thereof]
sharp: (my friend is coming clean she told me.)

[personal profile] sharp 2012-09-14 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Amy had come to terms that this costume would probably be around longer than she was a kissogram. Because, she's actually not a kissogram now and hasn't been since Leadworth, which felt like ages away. It's been two years since she's seen home. And about a year since she's seen the face of River Song. It's not someone she expects to see, but once she does she realizes how could she have possibly not thought about it sooner! Of course River Song would be on a spaceship in the future in god knows what universe.

She had felt someone hovering, but people had been doing that lately with her odd choice of clothing and suddenly recognizable face. (Remember when times were easy and no one had her face?) ]

... River?
backwardscompatible: (Like you're under sedation.)

[personal profile] backwardscompatible 2012-09-15 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
[There's one question above all that plays on River's mind, but she decides that can come later, after she's worked out where this Amy is from. Knowing River is a start, but it's only a start and Amy's surprise could mean any number of things. Is she too surprised for someone who knows River well? Does she know, but is surprised to see her after a long absence? Only one way to begin to untangle this.]

Amy, how lovely to see you. Now then, where are we coming from?

[Of course she has her diary with her. It was the first thing she reached for when she found the locker with her number on it. Very considerate, these kidnappers...]
sharp: (looking for the golden light.)

[personal profile] sharp 2012-10-07 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
[ Amy tugs a bit self-consciously at her short skirt, not sure how to begin explaining all of this. It was a very, very long story. Then again, River could already be two steps ahead of everyone, as she usually is. Might be helpful, actually. ]

Where? [ a nervous chuckle as she tucks back some of her hair. ] That's a bit complicated. Though I'll be surprised if it's in that book of yours. It was called Siren's Port.

[ She waits for a response with lifted eyebrows, curious if this was all some sort of predestined future and this was exactly what was supposed to happen.
backwardscompatible: (Will you just yawn and say)

[personal profile] backwardscompatible 2012-10-07 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Siren's Port... [The name feels unfamiliar on her tongue, but she has a flick through the sections of her diary concerning the Silence, just to be on the safe side. One never can tell how much one's forgotten about them at any one time... but sure enough, that name doesn't appear there either.

Then there's the question of whether she should recognise it, and whether it's worth pretending or not. She thought she knew all of Amy's adventures, she'd been there for so many of them... why doesn't she know about this? Still, probably best to go with the truth for this, while she's still finding her feet here. She looks back up to see Amy waiting for her answer. Best to be casual about this, as if it's not unusual at all for her to apparently be missing part of her mother's life story.]

No, I'm afraid you're right. I've never heard of it before. Let's go back a bit further then.
sharp: (when we were young.)

[personal profile] sharp 2012-10-10 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[ The less people who recognize the name, the more Amy feels like maybe it was all just a bad dream. But it couldn't have been. It was too real (and too long). Besides, there was that bloke named Jesse who she remembered meeting there. She hadn't gone off into the deep end, just yet. If any place was going to do it, it'd be this bloody spaceship.

So, she takes a deep breath, meeting River's gaze again. Oh boy, this was getting complicated. ]

Before that? Right. Let's see. You were ... Cleopatra? No, wait. Bit too far back. We were underneath Stonehenge investigating the Pandorica.
backwardscompatible: (When a snake of a guy gave me an)

[personal profile] backwardscompatible 2012-10-10 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Now there's a point she can hold onto. She gives Amy her best reassuring smile, even as her heart sinks with the realisation of just how far back in her timeline Amy is right now. This is must be only the third time Amy's met her. There's so much she doesn't yet know.]

Yes, I remember. The fairytale made real... And I remember the business with the wreck of the Byzantium too, so I think that brings us up to date. Is the Doctor here as well?

[It's only from years of practice that she's able to be so casual about that particular question.]
sharp: (this old and empty house.)

[personal profile] sharp 2012-10-22 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Weeping Angels and the lot. I'm still hoping that won't be the case on this spaceship — there is a forest, you know.

[ Amy keeps a light mocking tone, but she's not sure how much of a joke it really is. This dimension hopping has been making her go a bit mad. ]

The Doctor? Yeah, he's here. Not exactly on the same timeline as me either.
backwardscompatible: (Will you just yawn and say)

[personal profile] backwardscompatible 2012-10-26 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Her heart races as it always does at the knowledge that he's nearby. Not from the same point in time, that sounds promising. Hopefully he's from significantly further ahead. But she keeps her reaction to herself, apparently ignoring the information to focus on the first part of what Amy had said]

Don't worry, they aren't usually known for haunting oxygen gardens. At least, not moreso than anywhere else. You haven't noticed any suspicious statues, have you?
