SUMMARY: Lilith got a sad photo in her locker, so she and Mordecai meet up to talk about the good old times, the bad old times, and everything else.


It took Mordecai a while to get himself and all his animals cleaned and sorted after the jump, but finally the chickens were in the oxygen gardens, and he was dressed and armed to the teeth just in case he spotted Jack. Mijo was following, this time - every time he landed on Mordecai's shoulder, a hand would come up to sweep him off and force him to perch elsewhere, in an attempt to get the little bird to exercise his flight muscles. Not that it would do much good here, but Mordecai had to do something so the little guy didn't turn into the bloodwing version of a couch potato.

He took a longer walk than needed to get to Lilith's place from the lockers, giving him time to clear his mind from the effects of the jump, but eventually he arrived and knocked at her door.

"Not really. Why?"

"I was thinking today would be a good day to see if I could drink you under the table." She knew damn well that she couldn't, but that didn't make trying any less fun.

That got a laugh from him, and he tipped his half-empty glass in her direction. "You think so, huh? All right, you're on."

"As long as one of us can shoot straight after this, we'll be fine." They were in a public place, after all. Jack wouldn't dare try anything here. He was too cowardly and worried about his public appearance.

"Hell, you know me. The more I drink, the straighter I shoot," he said with a grin, and had another gulp of his rather potent concoction. By his estimate, there were about four shots in the one glass, so he was already ahead of her.

"You going to mix me one of those?" she asked and pointed at his glass.

"Thought you couldn't handle it," he teased.

"It was strong. I said nothing about not being able to handle it."

"That's some big talk, Lil," he said, still chuckling. "But if that's what you want so bad, I'll go get you one." He wouldn't mind topping off his glass too, anyway, so he got up and took it with him, and returned with two full glasses of the stuff, one of which he slid toward her as he sat down.

She wouldn't say she wanted it 'so bad', but she wasn't going to let him one-up her that easily. She held the glass and stared at it with trepidation before closing her eyes and forcing herself to drink some of it down. The strength of the drink almost caused her to sputter, but she managed to drink it. "Do you drink like this every day?" How was he still alive?

Liver of steel, maybe. "Heh, no, that drink's a new one to me. Even I have my limits." Beer all day, interspersed with a shot or two of something harder, was a lot more typical. What he had now, and what he'd given her, was a special treat.

Treat was one word for it. She eyed the glass and had a smaller sip this time. "If I pass out from this, you're carrying me back to my room."

"Hey, you asked for it, amiga. I'll carry you if I can, though." By the time he was done with his own glass, he'd be lucky if he could get very far, himself. They'd have to follow the wall the whole way, and do their best at intersections.

"I'll try not to make it harder for you," she joked. Alcohol was starting to dull her taste buds and it was getting easier to swallow the concoction he had made.

"Why don't we even the score first, then? You go ahead an' chug half that glass, then I'll start back up," he said with a grin.

"Why don't I do you one better? I'll finish the whole thing." She cockily grabbed her glass and about halfway through, regretted making that challenge. After that opening taunt though, there was no way she could back down and she forced herself to finish. She slammed the glass down when she was done and almost gagged.

He just watched with one eyebrow arched, and shook his head when she finished, grinning as he sipped at his. "Shit, Lil, even I wouldn'ta done that."

She moved her tongue around in her mouth, trying to rid herself of the aftertaste. "Remind me to never do it again."

"Hopefully you've learned your lesson well enough that I don't have to. Somethin' like that's gotta leave a mark."

She leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. "Trust me, I'm feeling it." Walking back to her room or the bathroom was going to be very difficult.

"Next time you wanna try an' drink me under the table, don't do it all at once, amiga," he teased, and downed another gulp of his drink while snickering. Oh, sure, he was feeling it too, but definitely not in the same way she was.

"You can tell me all about it when I'm hungover," she replied, slurring her words slightly. What she had just drunk was starting to hit her and she rested her palms on the table to steady herself.

"Yeah, right. You won't be listenin' then," he teased, slouching more in his seat. At this rate they'd both be passed out for the rest of the day, anyway. He set his glass down, half-finished once more - but he was determined to make it through the rest of it before trying to drag her anywhere.

Her cheeks were definitely flush by now and she leaned forward with an elbow on the table and a finger waving at him. "Might not want to hear it, but I'll be listening."

He just laughed quietly as he watched her drunken gesturing. That drink had hit her like a bus. "You want more while you're still conscious?" he asked, jokingly sliding his glass toward her.
