SUMMARY: Lilith got a sad photo in her locker, so she and Mordecai meet up to talk about the good old times, the bad old times, and everything else.


It took Mordecai a while to get himself and all his animals cleaned and sorted after the jump, but finally the chickens were in the oxygen gardens, and he was dressed and armed to the teeth just in case he spotted Jack. Mijo was following, this time - every time he landed on Mordecai's shoulder, a hand would come up to sweep him off and force him to perch elsewhere, in an attempt to get the little bird to exercise his flight muscles. Not that it would do much good here, but Mordecai had to do something so the little guy didn't turn into the bloodwing version of a couch potato.

He took a longer walk than needed to get to Lilith's place from the lockers, giving him time to clear his mind from the effects of the jump, but eventually he arrived and knocked at her door.

The photograph had found a place on her desk. She wasn't about to sit there and stare at it for hours on end. Roland was gone, but it would only disgrace his memory to dwell on it. If only that damn bastard had stayed dead like he was supposed to. She knew Mordecai wanted a chance to deal the finishing blow this time, but this made her want to liquify the murderer again. It was a death Jack deserved after everything he had done.

Mordecai's knock got her attention and she hopped up off of her bed. She was glad he was here, it helped her stay grounded. Jack would love it far too much if she flew off the handle and went after him. "'Sup," she greeted as she opened the door and stepped back in case he wanted to step in for a moment before they left.

He nodded to her in greeting, then glanced back at his bird - who apparently had no desire to join them at the moment, and was instead clutching at some miscellaneous piece of trash along one of the walls. He shook his head a little, then indicated the direction of the bar with his thumb. "You ready to go?"

"Yeah, I don't need anything with me to drink," she said with a small smile and shut the door behind her. "Did you already start without me?"

"Nah, not yet. Figured waiting'd be easier on my stomach. Somethin' about that jump doesn't make drinking right away a good idea, even for me." This was, however, the first time he'd managed to get in the pod relatively sober (for him anyway), and he felt a lot better than he had the last couple of times. Definitely ready for a drink, though.

"Good thing we're heading to the bar then," she replied and started off that way.

"Sure is." He let his bird settle back on his shoulder once they arrived - because really, letting him sail around and torment the other early patrons of the bar wasn't the greatest of ideas - and got himself a bottle of beer, then found a seat at a table. "So... You doin' okay?" She was strong, he figured she was, but getting an unsettling thing like that photo wasn't exactly something a person could plan for.

She grabbed a beer for herself and leaned back into her chair as she sat down across from him. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm not going to let that get to me." Too much, anyway.

He had a long drink of his beer, then sighed, feeling better already. "I know. Hell of a thing to get in your locker, though." He just hoped the damn ship wouldn't do something like that to him someday.

"Yeah, but I'm not going to let the ship get the better of me. I'm keeping the picture in my room." In a way, it was good to have a way to remember Roland besides her memories. Even if it was something that had been thrown in her face.

"Anyone who lets this ship get the better of them isn't gonna last long here anyway. Well, or maybe those people are the ones who just sit around and play house." Both were utter failure in his opinion.

"Most of the people here are playing house. Especially the security team."

"Heh, no shit, playin' like they're some kinda official police force, when there's no place where the rules for arrest or whatever are posted." Not that those rules would be fair even if they were viewable anywhere.

She took a drink and gestured around her angrily. "Yeah and they'd rather keep the troublemakers alive. It'd be easier to take care of them now."

"Got that right. No damn point keepin' them around so they can screw things up later. Someone like Jack's just a danger to the people here who can't defend themselves against a psychopath like that."

"And he's already trying to lure everyone into his trap."

[idkmybffbloodwing]

"Yeah. Mosta the people who I've seen talking to him don't seem to be buyin' it, but that doesn't really help when there's a lotta people who'll read that an' take it at face value without saying anything."

"Exactly. Who knows how many people think his bullshit is real."

"From what I've seen, it's more likely that most people just won't care. Which is why I wonder why security even bothers stopping us. We're not out to hurt anyone else."

"Yeah, we proved that when they tried to intervene." In a rare show, she downed the rest of her beer bottle and slammed it on the table. "I'm done talking about their stupid choices, though."

"Good call." She'd finished a bottle before him, for once. How had that happened? He smirked and had another drink of his, then reached up to scratch his bird on the belly. "You wanna get us another round?"

She laughed. "I'd pay to see you train your bird to do that."

"Ha. Nah, the bottles weigh too much, I think. Sure would be helpful, though. Guess it's your turn instead of his."

"You get the grab the next set." She got up to snag a couple more bottles of beer before returning to the table.

"Sure thing." He finished his while she was up, and eagerly started in on the next. "What do you think about another walk out in the ship sometime? I've been thinkin' there's gotta be a lot more to see out there. Got some people who wanna come, too."

She shook her head. "You know I would, but someone has to keep an eye on Jack. If you're not able to, then I'll have to."
