SUMMARY: Lilith got a sad photo in her locker, so she and Mordecai meet up to talk about the good old times, the bad old times, and everything else.


It took Mordecai a while to get himself and all his animals cleaned and sorted after the jump, but finally the chickens were in the oxygen gardens, and he was dressed and armed to the teeth just in case he spotted Jack. Mijo was following, this time - every time he landed on Mordecai's shoulder, a hand would come up to sweep him off and force him to perch elsewhere, in an attempt to get the little bird to exercise his flight muscles. Not that it would do much good here, but Mordecai had to do something so the little guy didn't turn into the bloodwing version of a couch potato.

He took a longer walk than needed to get to Lilith's place from the lockers, giving him time to clear his mind from the effects of the jump, but eventually he arrived and knocked at her door.

"Exactly. Who knows how many people think his bullshit is real."

"From what I've seen, it's more likely that most people just won't care. Which is why I wonder why security even bothers stopping us. We're not out to hurt anyone else."

"Yeah, we proved that when they tried to intervene." In a rare show, she downed the rest of her beer bottle and slammed it on the table. "I'm done talking about their stupid choices, though."

"Good call." She'd finished a bottle before him, for once. How had that happened? He smirked and had another drink of his, then reached up to scratch his bird on the belly. "You wanna get us another round?"

She laughed. "I'd pay to see you train your bird to do that."

"Ha. Nah, the bottles weigh too much, I think. Sure would be helpful, though. Guess it's your turn instead of his."

"You get the grab the next set." She got up to snag a couple more bottles of beer before returning to the table.

"Sure thing." He finished his while she was up, and eagerly started in on the next. "What do you think about another walk out in the ship sometime? I've been thinkin' there's gotta be a lot more to see out there. Got some people who wanna come, too."

She shook her head. "You know I would, but someone has to keep an eye on Jack. If you're not able to, then I'll have to."

[idkmybffbloodwing]

He nodded, frowning. "I know. I'd rather wait until he's dead, too, you know. But if we get caught an' they do something like take our guns away, then goin' out there won't really be possible anymore, an' I hate sitting around doin' nothing. Makes us no better than the ones who're content just living here."

"And people should go out there. I just can't shake the feeling he's planning something. Like he's going to do something to the whole ship if we give him the chance."

"Yeah. You're right, I know. Even if it's nothing physically dangerous to anyone, I don't trust him to behave himself for a whole month, either." He shook his head. "I still want a way to lure him out there. Then nobody'd stop us from doin' what we need to do."

"Got any plans for that to work?"

"Nothin' I wanna try. If I sent him a message tellin' him to meet me somewhere, it'd be too obvious."

"Yeah, we'd have to get someone else to draw him out."

There was an obvious answer to that, but he wasn't about to volunteer to put Jaye in that kind of position without at least asking her, and who knew if it would even work. "I'll keep thinkin' about it. There's gotta be a way to do that without security gettin' too suspicious."

"We'll get our chance, but we have to take care of him before we leave for an entire jump."

[idkmybffbloodwing]

"Yeah. I think you're right." Which meant he'd be even more frustrated with this situation for a while yet, but it was better than Jack somehow turning the tables against them. Right now, even with security, they had the upper hand. He was just one guy with no friends and no corporate money and resources to back him up, and without those things, he didn't amount to much.

"I've picked up some things over the years," she said and raised her beer to toast his.

He chuckled and toasted, then had a nice long drink. "Yeah, we've all learned a thing or two, haven't we. You know, I never really asked. What were you even up to, before you came to Pandora?"

She had a drink of her own and shrugged as she set her bottle down. "Traveling around. I hadn't settled down on a planet until then."

"Lookin' for Siren stuff, I guess?" Six in the universe made the odds low of meeting another, he had to imagine. Pandora was a hell of a place for a lot of reasons.

"Partly. Being a Siren doesn't get you a lot of friends in the long run." He had seen the bounty that had been placed on her head and 'witchcraft' had been one of the listed reasons.

"I can see how that'd make it hard to wanna stay anywhere for long, if the locals aren't big fans."

"Besides, there's a lot to see out there," she said and gestured upwards, towards where the stars would be. "I couldn't just stay in one place."
