seventeenth jump;

CHARACTERS: any and all
LOCATION: Gravity Couches and beyond
WARNINGS: maybe some swearing, or even some violence, and more than likely some implied (and possibly explicit) nakedness.
SUMMARY: Another month, another jump, another round of new faces.
NOTES: Keeping up with the tradition and copy pasted like always from the last one

You wake up in darkness.

There's a breathing tube jammed down your trachea, and you're suspended in a tube of clear blue fluid. Upon registering your level of consciousness, the gravity couch drains the fluid surrounding you and retracts the breathing apparatus; the doors in front of you open, and you're deposited on the floor of a stark, sterile medical bay.

You are not alone.

There are others who have come before you, others who are awakening beside you. Some may be familiar to you, perhaps even friends. Others have much less amiable plans. Some are merely alien and inexplicable, but there are always those who might mean you harm.

After you catch your breath and your vision returns, you notice a number on the inside of your forearm. Maybe it's a familiar number. Maybe it means something. Maybe it's just a number. But the number—completely unique to you—is a tattoo, and it does not come off.

If you enter the room adjacent to the medbay, you will find a small locker with your number on it, surrounded by rows upon rows of identical lockers. Inside, you will find a few of your personal items, a communications device, and a ship's uniform in your exact size. The comms device is fully powered and connects directly to the ship's network; it's your only means of communication beyond physical conversation. Upon turning the device on, a neutral, automated voice will say, "Please take the blue lift to the passenger quarters." Any other attempts at communicating with the rest of the network are met only with static.

This is your welcome party.

[She can't quite figure out what's going on here, thoroughly confused. He took too long after confirming her name, but he isn't pissed or asking her security things - something personal, instead, with a stupid grin on his face. And she's confused enough that she does just answer honestly.]

Sometimes.

[She doesn't really like sleeping alone, when she can manage to sleep at all. But what that's got to do with anything she has no idea.]

Who the fuck are you?
toomuchtenacity: (Hard at work testing)

Do you know where they are?

[She's just hoping for something with a door.]
toomuchtenacity: (Um no I don't think there's a pony there)

[Now that is interesting. She nods again.]

Where is that?

[Well, that sort of means something to him, since... it's Wheatley. He's not human. All humans probably look vaguely similar to him, much less the ones who actually do look like twinsies.]

I guess that's... something, anyway. [He slouches in his chair.] I probably should have guessed this wouldn't be as cool as expected. I imprinted someone with my personality once and it wasn't as cool as expected. ...Okay, it was, but it got old really, really fast.

Yeah, it was... an evil cryptic organization bent on world domination. [He deigns not to comment on the fact that "sacrificial gods" is one of this standing theories about the TQ.] Luckily, we- we nipped that in the bud.

[He shifts awkwardly.]

Uh... Sorry about yours, though? I guess it was a good thing that you showed up here before you had to contribute to the whole "blood for the blood god" shtick?

[He just waves his hand at that like eh.]

Nah, shh. It's cool. It's not like you're a giant evil god or anything.

[And then he motions to the bench, because Topher is his company right now--and he always makes sure to try to accommodate his company is the most friendly manner he can cook up. Alas, right now it's just a bench.]

And relax a little; you're all. Shifty. Take a seat, tell me about yourself. The rest of that shit's kinda heavy, don't you think? We have enough to worry about without stressing over it right outta' the gate.

[how come you have a deeper voice than me THE GODS HAVE FUCKED ME OUT OF A DEEPER VOICE I HATE THEM]
andblockbuster: (Got that handle undercover in Hanoi.)

[personal profile] andblockbuster 2013-04-19 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Topher scratches his neck awkwardly and then shrugs. Hell with it. This is what he wanted. Might as well actually get to know his double.] I'm not that stressed about, FYI.

[Because he's not! Really!! It's just... sort of weirder than he expected it would be. But he plops down on the bench anyway.] Uh. I'm Topher- which we covered. I'm a neurologist... well, I'm a lot of things, but I don't like to brag or anything. [He loves to brag.] Around here I'm just the brain-science guy. Uh... I'm originally from Los Angeles and I've been on this ship for, like, a year now.

"I don't really trust anyone." It was mostly the truth because there was probably about one or two people on board that Bela did trust with her life.

The name was familiar but she wasn't sure why; Bela wasn't terribly concerned though.

"Lovely to meet you, Lestat." Bela couldn't be any less sincere.

[ Even though Ryan should have seen that answer coming, he wrinkled his nose anyway.

He watches as AM leaves, before walking past his lockers and to the blue lift. Fuck looking for Wilfred. Ryan's going to spend time in his room and do what he does best. ]

Nathan Young.

[ said with a smile, of course, as if she should feel blessed to have made his acquaintance properly. and here's about where he could ask her if she sleeps nude, or maybe play into that running bestiality joke he's got going with what appears to be the entire ship, but - he doesn't, and instead he stands there in an awkwardly pleasant show of good manners. he's trying, okay. ]

[Her fingers slide from his hair, in a singular soothing motion, to curl her palm against his neck, thumb sweeping gently across the smooth line of his jaw. It's born of a desire to hold him close, when they part at length, to keep this quiet intimacy between them for a little while longer. To express the subtle pleasure at finding that there are some things that have not changed.

Uhura's eyes remain closed, let's the words murmured into her skin wash over her, and ignores them for a few moments longer. Breathes steady and even beneath his palms, and keeps the reality of her situation at bay, until she can be sure her voice doesn't waver, holds nothing but neutrality.

Telling Spock is different from telling Kirk. Telling her captain, she had felt, was a necessity. He had shown her his numbers first, used them as an explaining point, and might have noticed her discomfort in the matter- But he has never been able to understand her.

Doesn't hear her, the way that Spock hears her, with all the little things she doesn't say. Telling Spock is no less a necessity, and not only because he is still her commanding officer. It's only that she doesn't want to admit, doesn't want to discuss the depths to which all the ways this place has altered her already, bothers her.

Because she's an officer foremost, and she has never met anything she couldn't overcome. This, like her disorientation, will pass

Not that Wheatley detects it, of course. He continues to look rather casual about the whole thing--as long as the facetwin business isn't happening to him, he's got no reason to be concerned.

Well, the stress is more me, but I think that's pretty much settled now.

[Because I'm kinda high on life at the moment.]

Oh, LA. Good ol' LA; I took a trip to Universal near there once, almost got ran over by an angry woman with a van full of screaming kids. [He shakes his head so calmly, as though he were clearly still disappointed in this woman's decision to nearly mow him down; tsk, tsk.] Some people shouldn't be allowed to reproduce in flocks if they got such a temper on the road.

[but anyway]

So you check on people's heads aboard the ship, make sure there's nothing wrong with it?

Ah, you say that, but there are plenty of people on this boat who've gone and done the equivalent of all of those things.

[Smiley's close enough to a blood figure, right? Right.

He shrugs.

Whatever you want, really. There are things to do--kitchens, gardens, a pool--some people join departments, gives them something to do. I'm in Science, myself. Mostly to, ah. Use the resources for my personal projects. You understand.

"Perhaps you shouldn't...keeps you alive, for now." Lestat smiled at her comment, because it was clear that she didn't mean it. "I suppose I'll see you around, Bela."

For even if she didn't see him, he would see her.
